Mandrake!

So it was announced today that I'll be writing a four-issue Mandrake the Magician series for Dynamite, drawn by Jeremy Treece. It spins off from the Kings Watch series by Jeff Parker and Marc Laming earlier this year, building on the events detailed therein – though I'll ensure it's a good jumping-on point as well, if you missed that earlier story and just want to start here. I've read Mandrake since I was a tot, when it was serialised in The Australian Women's Weekly (no, really!), so he's an old friend.

Here's the cover to the first issue, by the phenomenal Mr Darwyn Cooke.

Vaudeville Skeleton

We all like a vaudeville skeleton, don't we? But sometimes you've got to say "no".

Review Roundup

The Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow has been out in the world for a few days now. Here's a round-up of some of the press, all gratifyingly positive so far:

Bag & Bored
Bleeding Cool
Comic Book Critic
Comic Book Resources
Previews World
Robot 6
Tough Pigs
Pop Mythology

Consider me relieved. I've been metaphorically holding my breath for months.

SPX 2014 Sketch: Axel and Alex

This one was, I believe, by request of the cartoonist Terry Flippo, of his own characters. There's more about them here.

SPX 2014 Sketch: Breakfast Cereal Box

There was a guy with a sketchbook entirely consisting of cereal boxes. This was my contribution. It only occurred to me later that the gag probably doesn't work in an American accent.

SPX 2014: A Cute Bunny Wunny

I'm not a fan of "cute", but people ask me to draw cute anyway. It seems to be in there somewhere, for some people, when they look at my stuff. Left to my own devices I'd probably have drawn the rabbit with beadier eyes, pointing in different directions or something – anything to make it less cuddly.
