Hello Lovelies, and welcome to the second talk on genre. Last week, we talked about what is a genre and why it matters. Today I want to spend some time defining something a little more controversial, and that is, what is not considered a genre.
What Genre IsI talked more in-depth about this in last week’s post, What Is Genre?, so if you need a mor...

Hello Lovelies, and welcome to the first talk on Genre. Today I want to spend some time defining what genre really is. This definition will be important for building our understanding the rest of the year on genre. I am specifically going to be talking about the literary genres, but keep in mind that there are musical genres, movie genr...

2022 Q1 Goal Setting
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the blog.
It’s a new quarter, which means it’s time to set some new goals, so let’s jump straight in.

Here we are back at the Kanban-style Trello Board. If you’ve been here a while, you’ll already be familiar with this, but for those that aren’t, I use Trello as a digital sort of Kanban board. I still have categories for my tasks, but I don’t use the “to do, doing, done” modifiers. They all just stay on their lists and I modify the cards within them ...

2022 Yearly Goal Setting
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the blog.
It’s a new year, which means it’s time to set some new goals, so let’s jump straight in.
Last year was kind of rough in that I don’t feel like I got as much writing accomplished as I thought I was going to. I wanted to write and rewrite my way through three books. I didn’t. I needed to work on a bunch of things that I didn’t realize were going to need to be worked on and it put a halt on every project I had going.
That being said, I have a ...

2022 Focus Word
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the blog. Today I am letting you in on my focus word for 2022.
If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m big on goal setting. For the past few years, I’ve been choosing a single word to represent the type of things I want to hone in on and cultivate in my own life. Essentially, you choose one word, phrase, or song, and use that to focus your intentions throughout the entire year. I call this my focus word, and it has helped shape and define my path.

2021 Goals Recap
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the final blog post of the year. This is the post where I recap all the things I thought I would have accomplished by now and see how woefully short I fell. If you want to, you can reference 2021 Goals before starting the rest of this post.
Actually though, I just went through my Q4 and the year plan didn’t fall half as far off the rails as I’d originally thought it had. Next year I will be doing a 6 month goal refresher because it has become obvious that l...

2021 Q4 Goals Recap
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back to the blog. We’re ending out another quarter, so it’s time for another goals recap post.
If you remember from last time, I set some goals at the beginning of Q4. As a refresher, they looked like this.

Now, my Trello board looks like this.

Let’s go over it in more detail.
Writing – 9/44 Goals Completed – 20%
I have a few things in this writing category so let me explain them. First up, Fate of the World is the fringe project I’ve been talk...

2021 Focus Word Recap
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back. Every year since 2018 I have picked one word to focus my goals around for the entire year.
In 2018, I chose Focus because I had too many projects and none of them that were completed, so I really wanted to practice focusing in on just one project and seeing it through to completion.
In 2019, I chose Hustle, because while I largely was able to teach myself the focus in the previous year, I was facing multiple rewrites and I wanted to see just how many words...

Year of Drafting
Hello Lovelies, and welcome back. In this post we’re going to briefly recap all the things we’ve learned about writing drafts and about revising them throughout the year. If you’ve missed any of these lessons, you can find them all linked on the blog.

Starting is the Hardest Part (I Promise)
Whether I’m writing a new blog post, a new chapter, a new scene, or even starting the year with a blank planner, somehow, that blank page is so difficult to look at.
Starting is hard. Starting is ...
