Open-Up! Blog Tour

This book is written for anyone who has a genuine desire to move forward in their lives but, despite numerous attempts, nothing seems to be working and you keep ending up with the same outcomes year after year. You will learn how to recognize habitual patterns of thought that are sabotaging your life on an unconscious level. Everyone has good intentions for their lives and ultimately wants the best outcomes, but oftentimes we get in our own way by allowing self-destructive thought patterns to impede our good intentions—without actually knowing we are doing so. I know this all too well because this was my life for several years.

This book was written because of my own personal experiences in life, and the experiences of my clients that I serve in my practice. This book gets right down to your core by unveiling the good, the bad, and the ugly about the way you think about yourself and everything that is happening in your life. In essence, this book is entirely about YOU! Most of us try to change ourselves at the level of our thoughts, but true transformation happens at the level at which you vibrate. You will learn how to completely shift your vibrational way of thinking and allow better circumstances to come into your life, whatever they may be. Whether you want to get unstuck in a relationship pattern or a financial pattern that keeps coming up, this book serves as a guide that will explore the moments when you get into trouble, and offers tools for learning to stay with your uneasiness, and offers concrete steps to get unstuck so you can finally move forward in life.
You will learn the O.P.E.N.U.P. steps: Observation, Permission, Experience, Not Identifying, Understanding, and Practice. These steps will serve as your doorway into revealing the very thing that is keeping you stuck. Once you discover those “hidden” truths about yourself, your entire state of being will be altered, and you will no longer resist all the good that life has in store for you.

Blog Tour: A Space Between Worlds

blogtourbanner-woodson

cover-novel-woodson About A Space Between Worlds Vol.1: Conception:
Songstress Shanti’s final performance is no different than any other. Gazing into the mirror, the Songstress laments her faceless curse. To hide her unsightliness, she dons a beautiful mask. She knows she doesn’t belong in the darkness. Her desire is to live in a world of eternal light, to be seen for who she truly is.
An enigmatic man who calls himself Avidia beckons Shanti, claiming to know how to conceive the world of light sleeping inside of her, and escape her current world of darkness, Cauraaha. Avidia poses the question that will be the key to her desire, as well as an unresolved pain:
“What is your first memory?”
Reno, a gentle florist, has his own stigma, a translucent coil of thorns wrapped around his arm, draining him of life at the utterance of the word “Promise”. Hidden away in his heart is the knowledge of a past he doesn’t wish to face, one that connects to Shanti, Avidia, and her curse.
A dual narrative of introspection and self-discovery, A Space Between Worlds eloquently questions the truths of life and death, timeless bonds, and regret through lyrical imagination, philosophy, surrealism, and a journey through the unconscious mind.
My Review: This book is unlike any other you'll read. A lot of the time I as I read it I imagined it as anime or could picture it as a graphic novel. Very visual writing and an interesting story about keeping promises and getting a second chance to make right mistakes from past lives, and about how the strength of love can cross the boundaries of reality and time. If you like speculative fiction or fantasy (or anime or graphic novels for that matter) then this is a book you'll enjoy immensely. spotlight.jpg
Excerpt #1 from A Space Between Worlds Vol.1: Conception:Flurries of snow crossed over the fan-like leaves of forest’s trees, lightly dusting the tips of their colorful tendrils with white frost. Even without the wind, the flurries continued to move, wrapping themselves around moss covered trunks and licking the faces of imperfect stones. The animals were hush as if they fled into unknown hiding place. An uneasy silence pinched Reno’s ears. Undisturbed by the sudden change in weather, he watched his breath raise into the canopy. Moments wouldn’t pass, it seemed, as the thin white ribbon would arc and linger at the precipice of the canopy before being consumed by the encroaching darkness. Reno continued on the main path, trudging on the blanket of fallen leaves. The path seemed endless, much like the message the woman in white left him echoing in his mind. Unclear, her voice was, like a skipping record. Bits and pieces of her words were shuffling, seeping into the muck of other thoughts. The situation felt unreal to him. The scent of lavender and of blood dawdled in his nostrils.
Excerpt #2 from A Space Between Worlds Vol.1: Conception:Their voices, even long after they’d spoken, lingered by the shore; nothing was lost and nothing was recovered. The man reached out in front of him where the tides of the sea, black like ink, gravitated to the horizon. The choppy waves never washed ashore, as if they were fleeing, desperately seeking an exit. The land wasn't its home. The same could be said for them. The man and the frail girl sat in mutual silence, each enraptured by what was ahead. On the horizon, the misshapen moon's pale light skipped across the sea but didn’t reach them. The man widened his eyes, hoping to absorb its light. The moon quivered, glaring back at him mockingly.

Tim Hemlin is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, having studied with poets Charles Simic and Mekeel McBride.  He has published in poetry journals, anthologies, and magazines--most notably in Ellery Queen.  Currently he has six published novels, two short stories and is included in an anthology.
By day he is an educator; however after teaching ELA for 22 years he decided to put his master's degree to work and is now a high school counselor.  In addition, he is an avid marathoner, fly-fisherman, and outdoorsman.  He lives just outside Houston, Texas with his wife Valerie, two dogs and a cantankerous cat.

Q&A With the Author:
If you could travel anywhere, on earth or off, where would you go?
Paris . . . so if I can't go back to the 1920s I'll go there now.
What color would you wear if you had only one choice?
Blue. Think of George Harrison in his denim shirt and blue jeans crossing Abby Road.
Describe your dream writing spot.

A cabin in the country with a bay window looking out over a verdant forest. In fact, one summer I wrote one of my mysteries in the mountains of Colorado in just this setting. Coffee and stories after an early morning trail run sounds like heaven to me.

Snippet:1) Talk about high-flying euphoria turned to grounded fear. The downshift was so sudden I could’ve thrown up. Be cool, Neil. Okay, I wasn’t going to outrun the guy in the Taurus, and I wasn’t going to confront him. Yet. My only other option, then, was to play the shell game and lose the bastard. ~ Neil Marshall

2) Nothing in my twenty-eight years could’ve prepared me for the scream that awaited me inside. Bloodcurdling, the howl lifted every hair on my neck to attention, siphoned ten years off my life, and threatened to claim my first child before I’d even found someone to conceive him with. Fajitas hit the floor, fists shot up, and instinctively I crouched, looking for the source of Satan’s cry. ~ Neil Marshall

Snippet:
The silky voice of a man on his cell caught my attention. He was tall and debonair in his crisp, black suit with a red tie. I was drawn to him. The slight bend in his nose and his brown hair that reached his shoulders complemented his dark and wild eyes that seemed to hold a heavy secret. He ended his call and tucked his cell into his pocket then turned to me. "It's quite a sight out here," he said, my ears melting to hear more of his velvety voice. "Yes, it is. It's beautiful, but cold." I wrapped my arms around myself and hugged my torso. "Are you waiting for the bus?" he asked. His hands were tucked in his black slacks, keeping warm from the bitter wind. "I suppose so. To be honest, I don't think they are out tonight." "Oh," he said, taking a few steps closer. I felt the heat radiating off his body as he approached. My nose was in heaven as I caught the bold cologne he was wearing. It was just the right mix of musky and sweet. Even though I didn’t know his name, I was attracted to him and that scared me. "I don’t mean to pry, but do you need a ride to wherever you are headed?" he asked, flashing a smile. "Oh, um, I was just heading home. It's not too far. I can just walk." I looked up at him, then back at the heavy snowfall and mentally groaned.
"Let me take you home. I have a car. A woman like you shouldn’t be walking home alone at night, especially in this weather."

Monster Mash Blitz Day 4

Ashley was born and raised in Oklahoma, where the wind really does sweep down the plains, and horses and carriages aren't used as much as she'd like. When she's not writing (haha, like that EVER happens!), she's probably working out or pretending she's Sherlock Holmes. Her obsession with writing began after reading the Lord of the Rings in the eighth grade. Since then, she's loved everything Fantasy--resulting in an unhealthy obsession with the 'geek' tab on Pinterest, where all things awesome go.

Author's Favourite things:

Tea & Tea Cups - I LOVE tea. I drink it a lot when I write. I mean one cup after the other. I stopped drinking coffee about two years ago, and well...replaced it. I also love tea cups. The one below is one I got from Windsor Castle!

Ireland - Dingle PeninsulaTravel - I’ve been to Ireland, Peru, Italy, and London and France - in that order. I have always dreamed of traveling, and thankfully, I’ve gotten to do it! There are so many more places I want to go! In 2016, we are returning to London and France to explore more! We also would like to visit Greece!
Peru - Machu Picchu
England - Tower Bridge Rome - The Colosseum

Connecting with people who love my books! The feeling I get when I talk or chill with readers is just awesome. I mean, it's still a surreal feeling and I think it will always be, but I hope I can convey how grateful I am for every message, comment, and download of my book.

Cutlass:

Notorious pirate Barren Reed has one thing on his mind: Revenge against the man who killed his father. So kidnapping his enemy's fiancé seems a perfect plan…until he actually does it.

Larkin Lee is more than a pretty face and fiancé to a powerful man. Her fierce personality is enough to make any pirate want to push her overboard.

But when the King of the Orient comes to Barren with a task—to find the Bloodstone, a powerful gem thought only to exist in legend, Barren sees another opportunity to destroy his enemy. Together, Barren, Larkin and a crew of pirates set off to find the stone, only to discover it caused the death of Barren’s own mother and Larkin’s, too. As his strongest allies turn into his greatest enemies, and the life of the girl he kidnapped becomes more important than he ever dreamed, Barren’s quest for revenge becomes a fight to save the Orient.

Flintlock:

Barren Reed hopes to protect the Orient from his tyrant uncle, but his plans to make the King’s life a living hell aren’t supported by the Elders of the pirate community. As it stands, Barren has earned the Elders’ disdain for his carelessness, and they threaten him into exile if he makes one more mistake.

Barren’s not the only one feeling the Elders’ wrath—they don’t trust Larkin either. Worse, Barren can’t comprehend Larkin’s wish to have a relationship with her father, and the secrets she’s forced to keep create a tension that may pull them apart forever.

When the Pirates of Silver Crest begin to die, bullets laced with dark magic are to blame. With more and more of these weapons infiltrating the Underground, discovering who’s behind the dissemination is no easy feat. As fear and tension mount among the people of the Orient, Barren and his crew find themselves in a race against time to stop the spread of dark magic before the world of Mariana spirals into collapse.
Cannon (coming soon!)

The king is dead, the Network is destroyed, and Barren Reed has been exiled by the Elders of Silver Crest. To make matters worse, the black spot--a curse of dark magic--continues to devour him. It’s true purpose is still unknown, but one thing is certain: It will corrupt Barren in the worst way.

With her greatest secret revealed, Larkin Lee flees Maris. Accused of slaying the king, there’s only one place to go--Silver Crest. But Barren isn’t happy to see her, and their reunion leaves more questions unanswered, including whether they have a future together.

As Datherious rises in power, Barren and Larkin must work together to find the fifth Relic to complete the King’s Gold and prevent Datherious from obtaining control over dark magic, but the black spot has other ideas, and the closer they get to finding the final Relic, the more corrupt Barren becomes. Larkin finds herself in a head to head battle with the only man she’s ever loved and the reality is harsh--only one can walk away alive.

Snippet:
Flintlock :A knock interrupted Cove’s thoughts and he uncurled the fingers he hadn’t realized he’d been clenching. He waited, expecting Camille to answer or enter the study any minute to tell him someone was here to see him. Though he didn’t have any appointments that he was aware of, it wasn’t unlikely for someone to drop by for a few moments. The knock sounded again. Camille and Nob must be busy, he thought. He strode into the foyer and opened the door. “Cove!” “Sara,” Cove took a step back, trying to stifle the surprise in his voice as he took in the woman at his door. She was Sara Rosamund—a friend, and the daughter of Frank Rosamund. Her sapphire blue eyes were painfully innocent and so kind, and set within the prettiest face, heart-shaped and fair-skinned. Her blond hair was pinned up in a bun, but she could never quite catch all the strands, as loose curls always managed to make their way free. Her lithe frame was draped in blue, a coat with black clasps kept her gown hidden, and white gloves covered her fragile hands. They’d grown up together, both having fathers in politics, and had spent many nights walking the gardens behind his house during balls and their fathers’ social calls. “What a surprise,” he gestured to his foyer. “Come in.” He closed the door behind her and as he turned to face her, Camille appeared from the hallway. “Apologies, Master Rowell,” she said, and then her eyes moved to Sara. “Ah! Miss Rosamund, it is good to see you!” She swept forward and took her hand. A warm smile spread across Sara’s face as she folded her hand over Camille’s. “You look as lovely as a flower!” “Camille,” Cove interrupted. They both turned to look at him, and he felt bad for halting their reunion. “Will you bring Miss Rosamund tea?” “Why yes, of course!” she said and patted Sara’s hand before running off toward the kitchen. An awkwardness fell between them in Camille’s absence. “Shall we sit?” Cove asked, indicating the open doors of his study. He permitted Sara to walk before him, feeling a little self-conscious at the clutter he’d allowed to overtake the space. She didn’t seem to mind and went straight for the chair she’d always claimed as hers, the one closest to the windows. His heart felt heavy as he recalled the many nights she’d sat there, staring out the unblocked windows, admiring the starry sky. “Does the daylight bother your work?” she asked, looking at the heavy curtains that now covered the windows. He hadn’t bothered to open them since returning from his adventure with Barren. Perhaps this space offered too many memories. “No, not usually,” he said. When she did not seem to like his response he added, “Though it does get warm in here with the windows unblocked.” She seemed to comprehend, mouthing ‘Oh’ in understanding, but silence fell between them again, and tension built. Why was this difficult? Things with Sara had never been difficult before. Camille brought tea. Any other time, her excited chatter would not bother Cove, but today he was feeling impatient. He had a long list of things to do to prepare for the ball, and there were pirates in his house. Not to mention Camille’s love for Sara was just a reminder of what once was. Camille left when the doorbell rang, and Cove was glad for it until silence filled the room again. For a while the clank of Sara’s cup and saucer sounded as she sipped tea. After a moment, she set the china aside. “I’m sorry if you are busy,” Sara said. She played with the hem of her sleeve, pulling it down over her hand. Cove watched the motion closely. It was a strange thing to think, but he’d never noticed that habit before. Was she nervous? “I know the ball is tonight, and I could have waited to speak with you then, but I wasn't certain I could catch you alone. I tried to call earlier in the week, but Camille said you were away,” she paused and finally met his gaze. Her sapphire eyes were so sincere. “You're gone so often now.” “It is the nature of my job,” he said. “As you well know.” “Yes,” she said with a hesitant smile. “I suppose, yet it was not so in the beginning.” “Times are changing. The sea is...unpredictable.” “Are you speaking of piracy?” He stared back at her, taking a sip of tea. “Yes, among other things,” he replied. “Oh, it is awful,” she said. “There were three men hanged in Maris just yesterday. I don’t understand why we must make a spectacle of a human’s life, no matter their transgressions.” “Many would argue pirates are not human.” “You don’t believe that, do you?” She stared at him, almost demanding. “I suppose it’s never mattered what I believed,” he said. He cleared his throat and stood. “But the news at sea won’t affect your plans, will it?” “Mine?” she was confused. “The wedding,” said Cove. “Ben’s campaign centers on piracy. I can’t imagine how he will balance the two—a new wife and his obsession.” She seemed surprised. “It’s not like you to be so cynical.” They stared at one another, and then Cove laughed. “You’ll forgive me, I did not intend to insult your beloved.” “Don’t,” she shuddered and took a breath. “Don’t apologize.” Cove had a feeling that’s not what the shudder was for. “We digress,” he took the moment to turn the conversation in a different direction and smiled politely at her. “What had you hoped to discuss in secrecy?” She cleared her throat and stood, smoothing out the folds of her dress and pulling down on the sleeves of her coat again. “I…,” she began, taking a breath, but she hesitated, twisting her fingers together. It was strange to see her like this, so changed. Had her engagement made her a different person? Or had Ben? “Sara,” Cove watched her as she spoke, and her eyes seemed to grow wider. “You can tell me anything.” She opened her mouth to speak, but looked away. “I just...I just wanted to say that I’m glad you’re back.” Cove raised a brow and stared. “Oh,” and there was silence. She curtsied. “I must go,” she said, and turned quickly to leave the study. Cove followed closely behind her. She reached the door when he called out, “Sara!” She turned around to face him, and suddenly he wasn’t sure what he had wanted to say. There was nothing he could say that would bring her back to him and nothing that could undo the decision she’d already made. “You will invite me to the wedding?” “Cove,” her voice was a whisper, and her eyes glazed with fresh tears. It might have disarmed him, but he had worked for a very long time to maintain the composure he had now. He reached behind her and opened the front door. “Have a good day, Sara.” His words were just above a whisper, and they urged her out the door. She turned and hurried to her waiting carriage. Cove watched it rattle off until he could see it no longer. When he closed the door and turned, he found Barren watching him from atop the stairs.

Monster Mash Blitz Day 3

Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.

Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.

Q&A With the Author:

4. What is your largest unfulfilled dream, and what are you doing to reach it?I’m fifty-five years old, so I’ve lived long enough to leave a few dreams behind. Like becoming a professional singer. Yeah, that never happened. The thing I’ve learned is that it’s never too late to go after what you want, and it’s especially never too late to revise your dreams or even embrace new dreams. I know I didn’t exactly answer the question, but I don’t like to think of dreams as unfulfilled. I prefer to think of them as works in process.
5. What is the hardest thing you've ever done?
I can’t share that with the world because it involves someone else I really don’t want to hurt by telling the story. The second hardest thing I’ve ever done was planning my daughter’s wedding and then being too busy and too exhausted on the day to enjoy it. Then, when the reception was over, I had to watch her drive away with some guy, hoping and praying the two of them would be happy together and having no control over whether they would or not. It was a very helpless feeling. Just a postscript: My daughter and son-in-law have been married almost a year now and they are doing great.

When she flushed, the foul remains of her supper didn’t swirl all the way down. She didn’t want to flush again, but she had no choice. If she didn’t, Les would know about her weak stomach. How could she tell her husband that intimate relations with him made her vomit? Her eyes watered from the physical strain of throwing up and the fear of being caught. When she lifted her head and gazed into the mirror over the sink, she shrieked and then slapped a hand over her mouth.Blood covered the face reflected back at her. She pivoted to look behind her, but there was nothing but a blank wall. When she turned to face the mirror again, the face was clean. There was no mistake. She’d seen someone else’s reflection. Who had she seen in the mirror? Why was the woman crying? Why was there a look of abject terror on her face? And why was she covered in blood? She glanced at the closed bathroom door. Had Les heard her?“Celia? Where are you?” Rage electrified his summons. She froze in place, her heart pumping blood through her veins at an alarming rate. The door flew open. Les stood in the hall, his face blotched purple and red with fury.

Foreword from Stevie-girl and the Phantom of Crybaby Bridge (book 3)

The year was 1971 and the time was like that hour between twilight and full dark, that time when anything is possible.  That’s how it was being young, I felt like the whole world was just waiting for me to blossom, to bloom, or to wither and fail.  And while I was waiting for something huge to happen . . . life kept on rolling along in fits and starts, never slowing, always moving.  Just like Stutter Creek, the one that meandered along beneath Crybaby Bridge.

Monster Mash Blitz Day 1

I am a retired high school English teacher. A devourer of books growing up, my profession introduced me to writings and authors from times long past. Through my studies and teaching, I fell in love with the Ancient and Medieval Worlds. Now, I hope to inspire young readers and those young-at-heart to read more through my Quest Books set in these worlds.

Q&A With the Author:

4. What is your largest unfulfilled dream, and what are you doing to reach it?
My life is pretty much a dream with a great hubby, super kids, and lovely grandkids. The only dream I’m working on now is to fulfill my bucket list. I'm knocking off another on that list this November when we travel to Iceland to see (we hope!) the Northern Lights. You can see my bucket list on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/ccarpine/my...
5. What is the hardest thing you've ever done?

Deciding to retire from teaching. In fact, I retired twice! I just loved being in the classroom with my high school students. It was fun watching them grow through the four years and come into their own as people. Working with kids is one of the most rewarding and toughest careers.

Long ago the old texts of ancient Egypt alluded to scrolls in which King Tut spoke to the people from beyond the tomb. Many archaeologists put this down to an incorrect translation of the ancient Egyptian texts. Others swore to the accuracy of the translation. But, Tutankhamen Speaks isn't a story about the lost scrolls. It's about the story written down on those ancient scrolls: Tutankhamen's story.

2014 EVVY Merit Award for Historical Fiction from CIPA (Colorado Independent Publishers Assoc.)

Reviews:“A delightful way to bring history to children.”
“We are using this as resource for world cultures for home school.”
“What I liked about this book was that it gives a glimpse into the everyday life of Tut, before and after his rise to Pharaoh. It was like a fly on the wall peek at his life without it just being part of a much larger plot.”
“And what a tale it is! King Tut tells us his entire life story from when he was a boy and not yet acknowledged as heir to the throne of Egypt, through his father’s death and his own ascension to the throne; we learn of his love for Ankhesenpaaten, whom he married, the sadness they experienced at the loss of a child, and the politics and hierarchy of ancient Egypt with its court intrigue.”

My Grandmother
My nursemaid was Maya, but it was my Grandmother Tiye that I remember the most. She doted on me when she visited and showered me with motherly love. She appointed herself and her brother Ay as my protectors, but Grandmother was away a lot. After my father became Pharaoh, she continued to oversee the military as she did for my grandfather Amenhotep III. When I was small, she cut off a lock of her reddish-gold hair and concealed it inside of four small nesting sarcophagus coffins.“Tutankhaten,” she said. “In the innermost sarcophagus I have placed a lock of my hair which rests underneath a solid gold statue of you. Keep the coffins safe and hidden in your room. They will protect you when I am unable to.”
I thanked her and prized such a gift, not only for protection, but because my grandmother’s gift was wonderfully made. The outer sarcophagus was made of wood; the second of plaster covered with gold leaf; the third of wood which contained the solid gold statue of myself; the fourth again of plaster covered with gold leaf and containing my grandmother’s gift.
