The Experiment: Excerpt 11

In conjunction with the blog tour for The Experiment, I'll be posting an excerpt daily from the book. You can see the schedule for the tour here. Here's today's excerpt:

Cilla
I leaned back and looked around while Em sketched. A gathering of people a ways away caught my attention. They were crowded around a man that I could hear ranting—loudly and passionately. I couldn’t see him, though. Intrigued, I left Em on the bench and wandered over.
“It’s our time now,” I heard him say, and those crowded around added their agreement. “How much more do we have to take before we say enough?” he said, and those around me punched their fists in the air with hollered yeah’s, causing me to jump.I managed my way through the crowd until I could see him. My jaw dropped. He was beautiful. Not in the Brax-who’s-so-hot-he-melts-your-heart kind of way, but in a way that I couldn’t define. He was cute, for sure, but probably would pale next to Brax. But there was something . . . compelling about him—a charisma that drew me in. He had dark hair and dark eyes, and looked maybe nineteen or twenty at most. He was tall, but not as tall as Brax. His shoulders beneath his dark leather jacket were broader than Brax’s, and he looked like he could easily wrestle a brazzle bear and win.“Let’s show the Collaborative that they can’t—” His eyes landed on me and he stumbled over his words. I snapped my gaping jaw closed. He looked away from me. “Uh, they can’t push us around any longer. We deserve an equal chance.” It seemed I sapped the fervor from his words. The crowd responded to his passionate words, cheering. “They’re coming,” someone shouted and the crowd quickly dispersed. I looked around me, surprised. But then I saw who “they” were. Two of the Trolls wandered slowly our way. I glanced back at the guy who’d been speaking to the crowd, startled to see he wasn’t running off. He slowly bent and scooped up his pack, his gaze on me.

The Experiment Blog Tour: Days 9 & 10

We had another couple of days of fantastic bloggers who took part in The Experiment blog tour. All of these bloggers rock! And rule as well . . .

A huge thank you and a big hug to Amanda at Wicca Witch 4 Book Blog for reading and reviewing the book. You can read the entire glowing review (which we deeply appreciate) here. Below is just a little of what Amanda had to say:

This book was sooo amazing and incredible! I couldn't put it down! It was full of adventure, intrigue and the most amazing people and creatures I have read about in a long time! Sherry Gammon, Cindy C Bennett, and Jeffery Moore really rocked it by putting this incredible book together!

Jeanz at Jeanz Book Read N Review interviewed the three of us about how it was to write a book with three authors. You can read the interview here.

Anna at Vamp Chix Bite Club ran a guest post written by my amazing co-author Jeffery Moore about creating unique elements of fantasy. She's also hosting a giveaway where you can win your own copy of The Experiment. You can read Jeff's post and enter the giveaway here.

Taffy at Taffy's Writings hosted us on her Writers on Wednesdays, where she also interviewed the three of us. You can read that interview here.

Last, but nowhere near least, my fantabulous co-author and good friend Sherry Gammon ran an excerpt in conjunction with the blog tour. Read the excerpt she posted here.

The Experiment: Excerpt 9

In conjunction with the blog tour for The Experiment, I'll be posting an excerpt daily from the book. You can see the schedule for the tour here. Here's today's excerpt:

Emiah
The Lurker that approached Cil was a giant, even taller than Brax. The Lurker froze, staring at Cil. He licked his lips and looked over his shoulder. “Oh, you’re a pretty one,” the man whispered. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Where are your friends, my cuteness?” He took a step forward and Cil slid away. “I’ll scream if you come close.”“It’s dark out here, cuteness. So easy to get separated and lost.” He stepped forward and again, Cil moved away to keep her distance. “You won’t scream. I’ll kill you if you scream.” He licked his lips again. “And I don’t want to kill you, cuteness.” His eyes locked on Cil’s bare legs.“Please don’t come any closer,” Cil whispered with panic in her voice. She rubbed her legs as if that would cover them. The Lurker smiled, showing his dark, craggy teeth. “Just a few minutes, okay? You can be my cuteness for just a few minutes, can’t you?” The man shrugged off his coat.Cil turned and crawled away. “No,” she said. The Lurker leapt toward her.

The Experiment Blog Tour: Days 7 & 8

Once again my gratitude goes out to those who are participating in the blog tour for The Experiment, the latest book written by me along with the fabulous Sherry Gammon and Jeffery Moore.

Who's Reviews was good enough to both read and review the book, as well as giving up space on her blog for Jeff to give his top 10 favorite movies. You can read the review in it's entirety here. A little of what the review says is:

I found this book to be very well written and it flows very well from character to character . . . This book is filled with action, adventure, danger, mystery, & romance. There is also a HUGE twist towards the end that I didn’t see coming . . . I HIGHLY recommend this book.Pretty in Fiction not only spotlighted the book, she also put an excerpt from the book on her blog. You can read that here.Over at Fic Talk there's a great spotlight of the book on the blog. You can see that here. Thanks to all of these bloggers for being willing to share some space on their sites with us to help us spread the word about The Experiment. Pick up your copy of The Experiment today!

The Experiment: Excerpt 8

In conjunction with the blog tour for The Experiment, I'll be posting an excerpt daily from the book. You can see the schedule for the tour here. Here's today's excerpt:

Juliet
“The guy has enough food here to feed a small army for a week. Clothing, too. Unfortunately it’s all guy clothing. I’m not the girliest of girls, but I certainly don’t want to walk around looking like a guy,” I said to Cil as we rummaged through some of Brax’s supplies in search of suitable clothing. We were down to our last outfits thanks to all our morphing.Cil agreed. “I know we’re in the jungle and all, but seriously, who would wear these?” She held up a pair of black and red heart-covered boxers with one finger and we giggled. “We need to find something we can slip on and off easily, without a bunch of buttons and zippers, and no khaki please.” She ripped a pair of khaki shorts I’d been considering from my hands and flung them to the back of the pile. Ever the fashion guru. Some days I envied her to the point of jealousy. Not only was she beautiful, but she had brains. Not street smarts like I had, but real brain power like Em. I’d seen Brax flirting with her. He was yet another guy I’d lose to my sister. And what hurt the most was that she never tried to steal them away, they just flocked to her.Cil sat back on her heels. "Seeing Brax and knowing he’s been a freak his whole life is comforting, you know? I mean, I was afraid the animal would take over and Cil would disappear. I guess it still could happen. Brax’s morphing is different than ours. He isn’t an animal. He’s just incredibly fast and strong.”“But Cil, haven’t you noticed the side effect morphing has had on Brax?” I asked in a low whisper. “No,” she said, holding her breath.“Sure you have.” She shook her silky blond hair. “Cil,” I said softly. “He has a huge, oversized. . .” I paused and waited for her eyes to flash wide. They did. “Ego,” I added low.

Blog Tour-Fight For You

Keturah fought her way into the army, but now she's in Judea building fortifications, and the only thing she's fought so far is boredom. The work is hard, and the other soldiers don't think she can pull her weight. Her brothers are becoming strangers, and Zeke's jealousy is getting worse - because Keturah is falling in love with the wrong warrior.
But she's not about to let cruel pranks and hurt feelings keep her from doing what she knows to be right. She completes every order with faithfulness - a hasty retreat from the Lamanite army, a spy mission into the enemy stronghold, a midnight assassination. From burying the dead to whiling away hours on guard duty, Keturah will do whatever it takes to protect her religion, her freedom, her peace, and her family.

But in a camp of two thousand boys, the most important thing she has to protect is her heart.

Fight For You is the second novel in Misty Moncur's Stripling Warrior series. Fall in love with these romantic novels set against a vivid Book of Mormon backdrop.

Misty Moncur wanted to be Indiana Jones when she grew up. Instead, she became an author and has her adventures at home. In her jammies. With her imagination. And pens that she keeps running dry.

Misty lives in a marsh near a very salty lake in Utah with her husband and children, where they cuddle up in the evenings and read their Kindles. Well, she does anyway.

Pretty Darn Funny: Basket Case

The thing that made me laugh most about this weeks Pretty Darn Funny episode was the drop-off dickey. Man, you have no idea how many times I could have used one of those. Watch the episode then read my thoughts below. After that, enter to win a contest in conjunction with this episode.

My Thoughts : What mother can't relate to this video? I think it's probably universal, but maybe just a little more intense for us moms in Utah. I'm not sure how it started, the idea that you have to be a perfect mom who raises little angels, while serving in the PTA, and being uber good at everything - including making baskets for a PTA fundraiser. That's what makes this episode so funny. I know I took my kids to school far more times in pajamas than anything, and I always prayed no one would see me. I'd wear my bathrobe, hoping it would pass as something other than what it was, and would have died if I'd had to get out of my car to help my kids or something. Why? I know probably 90% of the other moms were dressed exactly the same! So yeah, I could have used a drop-off dickey many times to help pretend I wasn't completely in my nightwear. Her collecting the baskets in her minivan in the parking lot from other moms was classic, as if it were some kind of drug deal or something. Definitely an amusing video this week.
The sponsor of Pretty Darn Funny, Deseret Book, is giving one lucky winner a copy of  the CD Say Love by Hillary Weeks. All you have to do to enter is sign in to the Rafflecopter. Pretty easy, right? Good luck, and hope you enjoyed the video.

The Experiment: Excerpt 7

In conjunction with the blog tour for The Experiment, I'll be posting an excerpt daily from the book. You can see the schedule for the tour here. Here's today's excerpt:

Cilla
“I could’ve killed the thing if it wasn’t for your sister,” Brax told Em, turning to glare at me.Em blanched, as if the thought of Brax killing the felit bothered him as much as it had me. “How could you possibly kill a felit?” Em finally asked. “You’re just . . . you know, human.”Brax stopped pacing and sat on another rock across from Emiah. “I told you I was strong.”“Well, you mostly said you were fast,” Em corrected. “Which we already knew. You didn’t say you were also freakishlystrong. Felits are one of the most feared predators. Not many things can take one down. And now you’re saying you have the ability to,” Em gulped, “kill one?”Brax shrugged. His breathing had slowed and he was much calmer than he had been before. “Only if I have the advantage of surprise. Face to face I wouldn’t fare so well. I was just lucky his attention was on Cilla.” He glanced my way before returning his attention to Em. “That way I could grab him from behind. Once I had hold, he couldn’t get away.”“Huh,” Em said, his eyes a bit distant as they were whenever he tried to figure something out. Then his eyes cleared and he turned his direct look on Brax. “Do you really wonder why Cilla didn’t want you to kill it? Why my sister, who morphs into a felit, wouldn’t want to watch you kill a felit?”Brax jerked at the question, and shot a look my way. “Jeez, I didn’t think about . . . I’m really sorry, Cilla. I was just, you know, in the moment, and he was a threat and . . . I’m so sorry. I didn’t think about the fact that . . .” It was a little comforting to watch him squirm, I suppose. Then as if the thought had just occurred, he asked, “Did you know him?”Scoffing in felit form is an impossibility I found out just then.
