12 Days of Christmas: Day 1

Nearly a year ago, we decided to open a small publishing company. We'd already started a company previously called Prose by Design, but because we'd gone into it without a clear and concise vision, the time eventually came when we realized what our original intent was had been lost somewhere along the way. Rather than restructure, we decided to give our authors their rights back and just start fresh, Thus the birth of Creative Prose Publishing.
"We" consists of Sherry Gammon, a successful YA author who has a book currently being developed into a movie (Unloveable) and Cindy C Bennett, a YA author whose latest title was acquired by Skyscape Books, an Amazon publishing company. We're both passionate about the success of our authors and doing everything we can to help them in their career. Even if they choose to publish themselves or with another company, we still consider them our "baby chicks" and, like mother hens, we're fiercely protective of them.
In the past year we have published 5 books, had one contest which resulted in a published anthology, published another anthology of fantasy Christmas stories, and republished 2 anthologies from Prose by Design. We've signed another 3 books which will be released over the next 3 months. Best of all, we've managed to sign an amazing group of authors who are not only talented, but are also so supportive of one another they've become like family.
We're very excited about all of our authors and the diversity of stories we've published. Below you can read each of the titles we have available and a small bit about the author, as well as read about the three books we have coming up!
We celebrate the ONE YEAR of success we've had, and hope to have many more with more authors like the ones we have now. Visit our blog to read about us and get further detail about our authors and their books.

Best of 2014 Giveaway Hop

Thanks to Bookhounds and I Am A Reader for hosting this blog hop! When I signed up for this hop, I started thinking about what book(s) I would talk about, I realized that it would be almost impossible to pick a favorite. So instead I'm going to tell you a few books I read and loved this year and why. I'm giving the winner a copy of any one of the books I mention below, or you can choose from any of my books (listed to the left) up to $10 (if a single book is more than $10 that's fine or if the price of, say, your third choice pushes it a bit over $10 that's also fine).
These aren't in any specific order, by the way.
Fractured Truth by Rachel McClellan: The final book in her Fractured Light series did not disappoint, and in fact was completely unpredictable which I love in a book. Read my review here. Since we're on the subject of Rachel's books, I'd also have to add Unleashed, her take on the Jekyll/Hyde story. I love most that her books are always so surprising and unique. This I reviewed on Amazon but not my blog. You can read that here.
Resisting Atlantis by Jamie Canosa: Jamie is at her best when writing snarky, sarcastic, tough chicks, and her heroine in this book fits the bill to my utter delight. Such a great story, too. Read my review here. As anyone who knows me knows, I'm a huge fan of Jamie's so I also suggest you don't miss Falling to Pieces and Angel which will break your heart. Read my reviews here and here.
A group of authors wrote a series called The Gates of Atlantis, which are MG and so not books I'd usually read, but I read 2 of them: Battle for Acropolis by Mikey Brooks and Secrets of the Mine by Juli Caldwell and I seriously loved them. Mikey's book is meant to be read last as it ties all of the other books together, but still even reading first Juli's and then his, I had enough of an idea of what was going on to thoroughly enjoy them both. Even if, like me, you're not-so-young, you'll enjoy. Read my reviews here and here.
The Only Boy by Jordan Locke: I waffled a bit on this book just because of some of the inconsistencies in it, but since it was un-put-downable once I really got into it I couldn't leave it off this list. Read my review here.
Under Zenith by Shannen Crane Camp: Another author I'm a fan of, both as a writer and as a person. This book was cool because it's SO different from anything else I've read. I can't even really explain it in a few short words, but this is a great read for anyone. Read my review here.
Unbearable by Sherry Gammon: This book is nearly unbearable to read--in a good way. So many feels and emotions I can't begin to describe. It's the last of her Port Fare series, but honestly you can read any of them in any order. This one requires a box of tissues. Read my review here.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion: I read this book entirely with the voice of Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) as the narrator because that's exactly who he sounds like. It was amusing and touching all at the same time.
I debated about adding these, because these are books we've published through Creative Prose Publishing, which I co-own, and therefore have a definite vested interest in. However, one of the great things about owning a company that publishes books is that I get to choose the stories I love for publication (trust me, we turn down plenty). So how could I not include them on a list of my favorites? If I didn't love them, I would not have agreed to accept them for publication. I didn't review any of them on my blog or Amazon so I'll give you a mini-review here.
Raine by M.M. Roethig: Seriously love this book. M.M. is a great writer and has created these characters that get under your skin. I can hardly wait to see where this story is going next.
Shadow of a Life by Tifani Clark: Ghosts, but not in a scary way, are what make this such a unique book--and a main character who can not only see them but who is tasked to save their souls. Great! The sequel, Haven Waiting, will be out January 12, 2015.
A Soul's Kiss by Debra Chapoton: Debra answers the question of what would you do if you could inhabit someone elses body for a time? And what would you choose between staying in you own completely altered life or moving on?
Elise's Choice by Rachel M. Stiber: Back in the day I read historical romances almost exclusively. I haven't read one in quite a while, so I was pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness of this medieval story of choices and their consequences.

Catching June by Shannen Crane Camp
It's finally here! The third installment in the June series by the amazing Shannen Crane Camp. I haven't yet had a chance to dig into this one, though I'm dying to based on how Chasing June ended. If it's even half as good as the first two books, then I'm highly recommending this book. June is nearly as charming as her creator, and both Joseph and Ryan have captured my heart, so I can't even say definitely who I want her to end up with in this book. Below is info about this newest installment, as well as purchasing links for this one and the first two as well.

Just in Time for Christmas
Previously only available as part of the A Fantasy Christmas anthology, you can now purchase the novella Halfling on its own!
Read the three excerpts below the purchasing information.
Banished from the South Pole, Kara tries to carve out a new life among the elves of the North. It’s not easy with a secret to protect—a secret she's cursed with by the unusual circumstances of her heritage: half-elf, half-fairy. In the North, she’s assigned to work with Seb on a special project. He's the most gorgeous elf she’s ever seen—and the orneriest.
As if being banished wasn’t punishment enough.
Seb introduces her to Trystin, a fairy from the nearby fairy forest. Trystin discerns her secret right away and promises to teach her how to use the powers given to her by the very thing she’s fighting to keep hidden.

Excerpt #1
Kara took a deep breath, her hand on the glass doorknob. A new beginning. She kept repeating the words over and over in her mind. They rang just as hollowly now as when she’d been banished. Well, there was nothing to be done for it. This was her new life—for now. At least until her secret was once again discovered.
Excerpt #2
She caught sight of a male elf entering the room and froze. He was dazzling. She’d never seen an elf that looked like him. He was tall and lean, as were most elves, but he was even taller than most. His broad chest and shoulders made him formidable. His arms rippled with tight muscles. His form was arresting, surely, but it was his face that held her mouth-gaped attention. His cheekbones were high and strong, his lips full and sensuous above a seriously masculine jaw. His eyes shone bright blue—like the sky on the clearest of days, framed with long, dark lashes that would be envied by any female. His long midnight-black hair was tied back with a length of leather, giving him a fierce appearance. He was attractive beyond any elf—beyond anything—she’d ever seen—and that was saying a lot considering the natural beauty of all elves.
Excerpt #3
He held the helmet out once again and this time Kara took it. She climbed on behind Seb, holding to the side handles. He grunted, in frustration or humor she couldn’t tell. He reached behind him, grabbed her hands and wrapped them around his waist. Kara gasped.“No backrest,” he said, which was true enough. “You’ll fall off if you don’t hold on.”Seb hit the throttle, launching them forward. Kara couldn’t stop the small scream that escaped her throat as she tightly clasped Seb, burying her face in his back in terror. She slid forward, pressing tightly against him, refusing to look up as the world sped by. Panic slid across her bones until she felt as frozen as the Earth’s surface beneath them. He sped around corners and across bumps that lifted the machine airborne. Her breathing was rapid and her heart felt as if it would pound its way through her chest. It seemed as if hours passed rather than a mere thirty minutes when he finally pulled to a stop.Kara tried to release him, truly she did, but telling her brain to release her death grip on him and actually doing it seemed to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. “Kara?” he asked. She couldn’t lift her head to answer him. She felt his hands on hers, peeling them away. He managed to do so, though she still couldn’t move. Pulling her helmet off, he leaned down to peer into her face. Seb surprised her by pulling her into his arms, holding her tight, safe, enfolded in his warm embrace as she shook, spasms wracking her body. Kara didn’t know how much time passed before her brain began to really process the situation. As she became aware of her reaction to nothing more than a ride on a sled, and the fact that she was now clasped tightly in Seb’s arms, embarrassment seeped through her.
