eBook Giveaway begins…

Thanks to those of you who have entered my eBook Giveaway!  Although the contest has only been going for a few hours, I've had a few entries and plenty of pageviews.  For the three of you who have entered so far, your entries showed up without a hitch and are now saved in my email account, so everything appears to be running smoothly!

If you haven't entered the eBook Giveaway yet, the link is at the top of this page, just below the header.   This is the first of what I plan on being many contests.  Please note that I have set up a seperate email account just for entries, so no one should get lost in the shuffle or land in the dreaded spam box.

Also, I welcome comments/suggestions about the contest, and am always open to discussion!

Thin Hope's New Cover Art

Today, I realized that I'm almost three-quarters of the way through Thin Hope, the adult urban fantasy I am co-authoring with my sister.  I've really been enjoying it so far, fleshing out the characters and writing the action scenes.  I've made some progress on After These Messages as well, and just finished writing a parody of a very scary commercial that still gives me nightmares.

Also, I have updated the cover art for Thin Hope and will begin the process of writing the promotional blurb as well:

I haven't forgotten to make progress on the third Destroyers book, of course.  However, I need to keep my cover art for that one a secret for now…

On Vacation This Week

I'm happy to say I've taken the week off from my day job, and have gotten just a little more writing done lately than I normally would.  Of course, I had to do some other stuff, too…like go to the beach for a couple of hours, stay up very late playing video games, hiding my tarantula collection from the apartment inspectors, etc.  I'm making some headway on Thin Hope and After These Messages, and hope to start Destroyers Book 3 this summer.  At least the oppressive heat has calmed down some, and I can actually breathe when I go outside…

Early Info for Third Destroyers Book

Since releasing Inferno, which has now passed its 100th copy sold, I'm already thinking up some ideas for the third Destroyers book, as well as co-authoring Thin Hope with my sister, which is progressing nicely.   I've decided to post some early info on how it's shaping up in my head so far, without giving too much away, of course.

I've decided on which natural disaster to focus on next, and it wasn't a difficult decision, given how Inferno resolved and what must happen to keep the series going at the start of the next installment.   However, I won't be revealing it until I unveil my cover art and title, which will effectively give it away!  Destroyers Book 3 will probably be taking a darker tone than its predecessors, adding a lot of new complications to the plot of the series and of course, bringing the familiar cast of characters back.  There will be a new character, of course.  And Leslie, Janelle's talkative best friend?  I have plans on what to do with her.

I haven't started writing it yet, but for now, I hope to have a release date set for Spring of next year.  But for now, I'll continue Thin Hope and After These Messages, two projects in which I'm pursuing something completely new for me.

Great First Two Weeks For Inferno

I'm happy to say that my release of Inferno, the sequel to Tempest, has done better than I expected.  Since its release a couple of weeks ago, it has sold a total of 82 copies at the time I'm writing this.  At this point, I had expected to sell maybe ten altogether.  I'd love to thank everyone who picked up a copy, and who have picked up Tempest as well, which has currently sold around 6600 copies in various eBook formats.   I know not everyone liked it, but that's okay.  Not everyone will like every book.

That doesn't mean I'm not still busy, of course.  I'm currently working on two more projects, getting some summer plans together, getting some ideas together for the third book in the Destroyers series, and preparing for my first-ever book signing in September.   I've been told that results vary with those, so I'll be going in not sure what to expect.

I'll have more entries coming soon as everything progresses!

Thanks Everyone

Thanks everyone who picked up a copy of Tempest or left comments here. (I'm up to about 5000 sold now.)  I apologize that I haven't checked this site for a few months now, as I didn't realize this site was getting so many hits!

As for the requests for review copies, I will try to get them all out this week.  I didn't realize that thread at Amazon was still going!

It's going to be a series…

I've decided, based on reviewer feedback on TEMPEST, that I'm going to make it a series.  I've already started some work on the second book.  I won't say much now (I'm still working out the plot and all) but I will say this:  I'm bringing in another disaster.

Hello Everyone!

My name's Holly and I'm an author, artist, and animator.  (Well, sort of.)  I pretty much love everything that's creative other than crafts, which I could never get the hang of.  And cooking.  I try to avoid that, since my specialty is burning pancakes and setting off the smoke alarm.

Since I'm a writer, I guess I'm supposed to do a blog about writing tips.  But my personal belief is that there are already lots of great blogs like that out there, and I probably don't have anything new to add.  And I could never exceed them, anyway.  You can probably think of at least three or four good ones out there (Miss Snark's First Victim, Cornell Deville, Jessica Souders's blog, etc.)  I'll be linking to them soon.

So what to talk about?  Writing and art and animation, of course.  And creativity in general.  And of course, ideas.  I promise, I won't be too boring.

ABOUT ME

Writer:  I enjoy writing young adult fantasy, followed by young adult horror and middle grade contemporary fantasy (in no particular order.)  My current project, TEMPEST, is about a sixteen-year-old girl who learns she's able to turn into a hurricane…and that she's required by Tempest law to transform once in her life.  Unfortunately, that time is a week from now.  And now she has to figure out a way to escape.  But the evil Tempest leader wants to make her use her power for evil.

For more info on TEMPEST, visit my "Books" page or click HERE.

I also have another project in the works, called RETA MORSE AND THE SINISTER SHADOW, which is actually a major overhaul from an old project with the same name.  I hope to post more on this soon.

ARTIST: I'm a little less into this area, but my art includes some comics, what goes into my animations, and my book cover.

ANIMATOR: I love making funny movies as well.  Some movie ideas coming up include a fat cat superhero (thanks to my younger sister) and Disturbed Kid, a kid who's always having really scary things happen to him.  (This one is also thanks to my sister.)

Welcome!

Thanks for checking out my site!  It isn't much now, but I promise I am (finally) working on expanding it.  I'm currently working on two more books (check the book page for more info) and working a full-time job, so that doesn't leave me much time to do much else.  However, I promise to be better about my website from now on!

To contact me, my email address can be found on the "contact me" link to the right.

My main blog can be found below these buttons.  Check back for annoucements!

View current and upcoming titles by Holly Hook!  Purchase links included.

Some amateur animations I've done for a laugh.

Not much here, but a game I've done on Flash, also for laughs.
