Author spotlight - Ednah Walters
Multi-published romance author, Ednah Walters is basking in the author spotlight today! I've known Ednah for years, and she, in fact, was one of my critique partners. Here's a little bit about her background.
Ednah grew up reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys and dreaming of one day writing her own stories. She finished her PhD in chemistry, married the love of her life, and decided to be a stay-at-home mother. She now lives in a picturesque valley in Utah with her husband, five children and two American short-hair cats. When she is not writing, you can find her doing things with her family, reading, traveling or online chatting with fans.
Ednah writes adult romance under the pseudonym E. B. Walters. SLOW BURN, the first contemporary romance with suspense was released in April 2011. It is the first book in the Fitzgerald family series.
Book 2, MINE UNTIL DAWN, was released in July 2011.
KISS ME CRAZY, book 3 in the series followed three months later. Book 4,
DANGEROUS LOVE was released end of January 2012. FOREVER HERS was released October 15th. Ednah is presently working on the next book, Lex’s story.
When she is not writing adult romance, Ednah writes YA fantasy books. Her YA fantasy series, The Guardian Legacy, is book about children of the fallen angels, who fight demons and protect mankind. AWAKENED, the prequel was released in September 2010 with rave reviews. BETRAYED, book one in the series was released by her new publisher Spencer Hill Press in June 2012. Book 3, HUNTED, which will be released April 2013. She’s working on book 4, FORGOTTEN.
You can visit her online at www.ednahwalters.com, www.ebwalters.com, or www.enwalters.com. She’s also on Facebook, twitter and Google-plus.
EXCERPT FROM FOREVER HERS:
Hoping not to wake up the housekeeper, Eddie tried to be quiet as he entered the house. Kara had informed the housekeeper to expect him. He’d leave her note on the kitchen table that he’d arrived late, so she wouldn’t freak out in the morning.
Closing the door and softly turning the lock, he froze at the tell-tale sound of a gun cocking. Then a glaring light filled the foyer. Not the overhead light. The intensity indicated it was a flashlight.
“Drop the bag, open the door and get the hell out of my house before I start shooting,” a female ordered.
Eddie hands shot up. “Ma’am—”
“Don’t ma’am me, you son of a bitch. Open the goddamn door and get moving.”
The voice was smoky and low with an eastern lilt. It stroked his senses, the effect on him unexpected. He bit off a curse. Hadn’t his cousin said the woman was about sixty years old? Either he now had a thing for cougars or he liked being subjugated by a gun-wielding woman, which was unlikely. He wasn’t into bondage.
“My name is Eddie Fitzgerald. Baron, the owner of this house, is my cousin.”
She scoffed. “If you think dropping the Fitzgerald name is going to convince me of anything, think again.”
“I used a key to get inside the house,” Eddie ground out through clenched teeth, letting the keys dangle on his forefinger. “Where could I have gotten it unless they were given to me by the owners of this house?”
“Show me an ID or I’m shooting.”
Eddie relaxed. People who threatened to shoot most often weren’t shooters.
“Fine. I’m going to reach inside my back pocket for my wallet.” He shifted slowly so he could see her but the glare from the flashlight made that impossible.
“Don’t turn around. Get out of the house first thenshow it to me from across the threshold.”
Eddie opened the door.
“Leave the stolen goodies behind,” she ordered.
He lowered his left arm and the straps slipped off his shoulder. The bag landed with a thud. As he stepped outside, he caught her reflection on the glass window bordering the rotunda foyer. He couldn’t see her face, but he noticed something that gave him a pause. Her hands were crossed at the wrists, the bottom hand gripping the flash light at a right angle and supporting the one holding the gun. Only cops held guns and flashlights like that when confronting a criminal. She also kept a safe distance from him, making it hard to rush her and disarm her, another precautionary move he learned at the Academy.
“Are you a—?”
The door slammed shut behind him and the locks clicked. The patio light came on at the same time as the ones inside the house, then muffled sounds followed as though she was running away.
Eddie frowned. He might not appreciate being ordered around but he understood the woman’s vigilance. It couldn’t be easy living alone when a burglar was on the loose in your neighborhood. It also took guts to pull a gun on him. Many thugs had tried and lived to regret it.

Devil Moon: A Mystic Romance
By Dana Taylor
Welcome to the mystical town of Beaver Cove, Arkansas where country ghosts offer homey advice and the moon makes lovers of total strangers! Maddie Harris left Boston in humiliation. She hopes the job as assistant principal in a small Arkansas town will keep her too busy to notice the hole where her heart used to be. Phil Wilcox, divorced former NFL star, returns to his hometown as the new football coach. He hopes to repair the tattered relationship with his eleven-year-old daughter, despite his thorny ex-wife. Maddie is neat and color coordinated; Phil takes “casual” to its limits. Neither is seeking romance, but a mischievous moon and a friendly spirit have other ideas. “Round Table Review” says “Devil Moon is a lovely romance full of whimsy, comedy and bittersweet twists.”
The set up:
Devil Moon: A Mystic Romance is a comedy set in the Ozarks. Maddie is the uptight high school assistant principal. Phil is the new high school football coach. This scene is toward the end of the book. Maddie has been warned off Phil by his ex-wife who has threatened to take Phil’s daughter out of his life unless Maddie gives him up. (Maddie occasionally gets advice from her dead Grandmother.)
Setting: Maddie’s kitchen
Maddie sat up straight. She'd been wishing the interminable breakfast would simply end. And now he appeared on the verge of proposing marriage.
She put a hand on his arm. "Don't say it, Phil."
"Now you don't even know what I'm going to say. See, we're good for each other." He covered her hand and looked at her with the innocence of a puppy. "I love you. I've known it for a good little while. You make me happy and I think we'd make a great team. We need each other. We're right together. Oh, hell, Maddie, either shoot me and put me out of my misery or marry me." He released a deep breath. "There, I said it. I think we should get married. What do you say?"
He looked so happy, she wanted to throw up. Her voice came out hoarse. "I can't marry you, Phil. It just wouldn't work."
An expression of shocked pain flashed across his face before it quickly changed to anger. "Oh, I get it. It's one thing to have a roll in the sheets with the football jock, but you wouldn't want to marry him."
"No, no, it's not like that."
"Then what is it? Explain it to me."
Oh God, she wasn't ready for this. She hadn't rehearsed a speech. She crossed her legs and tried to assume an elegant air. "Well, you're from one world and I'm from another and I don't think we're compatible. You're much too messy. I wouldn't want to be picking up your socks and picking out your clothes." Oh yes she would, she really would.
Phil stood up. "Okay, sweetheart, you're too good for me. I get it. An alcoholic, has-been football player isn't your idea of husband material. Well, let me tell you something, babe. You're passing up a good deal."
She knew that. She knew he was the best thing that had ever come along in her whole life. "It wouldn't be a suitable match, that's all. I think you have many fine qualities, but you're just not my type. I hope we can be friends, for the baby's sake."
He grabbed her chin and forced her to look in his face. "This is so much baloney. You came onto me the other night like it was for keeps. You didn't say it, but I could feel it in your body, see it on your face. You love me, goddamn it! You look me straight in the eye and deny it. Say it. Say 'Phil, I don't love you.' I don't think you can."
Maddie swallowed and dug deep down to a well of strength she didn't know she possessed. She had to make the lie seem true. In a calm and measured voice she said, "Phil…I…don't… love you."
He released her as if he'd been burned, turned on his heel and rushed for the door. She flinched at the slam and closed her eyes. Taking a breath, she opened them again and surveyed the incredible mess he'd made making one small meal.
Standing before the sink was the see-through figure of Grammy Harris. "Pitiful, simply pitiful. You've set the Harris womenfolk back 'bout a hundred years."

Author spotlight - J. D. Faver
The author spotlight is shining on J.D. Faver who is excited announce the release of BAD VIBES, the third novel in her romantic thriller series: THE EDGE OF TEXAS. BAD MEDICINE was the first of THE EDGE OF TEXAS romantic thrillers and it’s FREE today. I hope everyone has a chance to download it.

BAD MEDICINE is followed by BAD KARMA, and BAD VIBES picks right up where BAD KARMA leaves off, plunging one of the most charming characters into danger. My readers kept asking for a book featuring Deputy Darla Calhoun. In Bad Vibes, she is carrying on, even though her husband betrayed her financially and committed suicide six months previously. She is lonely as well as angry, but she has to hold her head high for the sake of her twin 4-year-old sons and also because she is a member of the tight-knit law-enforcement team under the leadership of Sheriff Rafael Solis. (Hero of BAD MEDICINE)
Darla arrests a vagrant, hanging around the marina, but after he’s cleaned up, she discovers a hunky, hard-body with a smoldering gaze hidden beneath the filthy rags. He turns out to be a federal agent working undercover. He’s after a gang of human traffickers using the Intracoastal Waterway to bring sex slaves into the United States from Mexico. Rafael assigns Darla as liaison officer to work with the feds, bringing her face-to-face with the “Iceman”, Mike Burke, the undercover agent she arrested. Darla, Mike and his partner tear up and down the Intracoastal Waterway in pursuit of the human traffickers, but when two local women disappear, the search becomes personal.
The following excerpt takes place when Mike has come ashore to pick up the sheriff’s liaison officer. He’s not that fon EXCERPT :
That evening Senior Agent Grunwald met with Rafael at the sheriff’s office. They chatted for a few minutes, exchanging pleasantries while waiting for their respective employees to assemble for the briefing.
The John Doe, who had been arrested by Darla earlier in the week, entered the office, nodded at Ida and gave her a wink. Wearing a loud Hawaiian shirt and a cocky attitude, he strolled over to where Grunwald stood waiting. He didn’t seem to be in any particular hurry, and with his hands thrust into the pockets of his cargo shorts, he appeared to be completely at ease in the presence of his superior.
“Sheriff Solis, this is Special Agent Mike Burke. He’s on loan to us from the Department of the Interior.”
Rafael extended his hand. “I’ve had the pleasure.”
Mike shook his hand, grinning. “Likewise, Sheriff.”
Grunwald looked at his watch and frowned. “It’s straight up nine. Where is this man of yours, Sheriff? We need to get under way.”
Rafael glanced at his own watch. “My man should be here right about now.” He pointed to the front door as Darla entered with two green duffle bags and an M-14. The high powered rifle was slung over her shoulder. “This is Deputy Darla Calhoun. She’s one of my best men and the deputy best suited to your mission. She knows everyone in the county and all the boats registered here.” Rafael couldn’t suppress a grin as he watched the two agent’s astonished expressions. “She’s a qualified sniper and a cool head under fire, an attribute to which I believe you can attest, Agent Burke.”
Mike appeared to be stunned. His cocky grin had evaporated. “You!”
Darla looked him over, a slow smile spreading across her face. “You.”

The Scribes span a long history, dating from 1200 to present day. Each Scribe is expected to journey through Dragonspeir, both the good and evil factions, then draft a written account. These legends begin where he finds her again—she is thirty-five, standing in his enchanted bookstore, and Dragonspeir needs her.
When Lyra reopens that enchanted book, she confronts a series of quests where she is expected to save the good Alliance from destruction by the evil Black Dragon. While learning about her role, Lyra and Cullen fall in love. He is 220 years old and kept alive by Dragonspeir magic. Cullen will die if Dragonspeir is taken over by the evil faction…Lyra becomes the Scribe. Excerpt:
From Chapter One: An Urgent Message Lyra almost deleted the email marked urgent, suspecting some virus that might take control of her computer, but stopped when she realized the sender was her lover—a 220-year-old wizard, who rarely used a computer. She couldn’t open the message fast enough.
Lyra,
Alliance mortals and lower magicals are taking violently ill. I’m leaving the bookstore for a while to offer aid. DO NOT come to Dragonspeir. Stay safe in your world.
Love always,
Cullen
She stared at the screen, twisting a strand of her long hair. Leaning forward, she gripped the armrests of the chair. Her breath caught when she noticed how the dragon’s sapphire eyes on her new bloodswear ring sparked from the energy of her concern. His message left her undecided, reading between the lines and weighing the choices.
Those affected—mortals and lower magicals—seemed to place her in the risk group, obviously Cullen’s concern. However, those mortals were all born in Dragonspeir, while she originally came from Tampa. Lower magicals did include members of both worlds. But as the current Scribe, Lyra possessed inherited power at least as great as high-order wizards. She just didn’t fully grasp how to command her magic yet.
She did want to help. Since her parents and dear Aunt Jean died, the Guardians, wizards, dragons, and other residents of the Alliance were her only family. Lyra’s unique powers might be useful, especially since they now lacked an alchemist.
Eburscon disappeared after he attempted to steal her scribal aura, and she’d heard no reports of him since, so he was presumed dead by many. According to Cullen, no one wanted him back. However, living without a person capable of creating remedies for a plague or widespread illness had left many residents uneasy. Some talked about trying to persuade Tarom, the Dark Realm’s alchemist, to switch his allegiance. Two centuries ago, he served the Imperial Dragon, leaving only when he couldn’t tolerate working under Eburscon any longer.
Despite ranking as the top wizard, the Imperial Sorcerer in the Alliance High Council, Cullen lacked alchemical skills. Even though untrained, Lyra possessed a keen intuitive sense in the craft. She could help him. Aries guided the fire in her scribal powers and also fueled her impatience.
Lyra checked and secured Aunt Jean’s cottage since the last gasps of late winter storms in the upper peninsula of Michigan could be brutal.
Dashing off a few emails to her college students in Florida, she gave them feedback on their independent study in the Fantasy Lit course. She was glad her leave from on-campus teaching responsibilities continued until the next fall term.
Lyra saved and printed the chronicle draft of her bloodswear quest, completed at the end of last year. It was mid-March, and she’d almost finished the written account, storing magic in her words that would empower the Alliance—her role as a Scribe. The hard copy she stuffed into a commuter bag to work on later with the Imperial Dragon and the other three Guardians. She needed to sort through their research details that had helped her kill the heir to the Black Dragon. Additional supplies could be conjured from memory.
Outside, the dock in the backyard looked weather-beaten but sound. Waves from Lake Huron lapped at its old boards. In the flower bed, the first spring perennials peeked through the packed ground and would require plenty of care soon. Lyra hoped to be back in time to maintain what her aunt had loved so much. Crocuses stood bravely against the melting snowpack—a reminder.
As she turned from the garden, a large black butterfly flitted around her head. It was the same type that had spied on her before and been in her aunt’s room when she was killed—purple spots like eyes on its wings. Suspecting it was a transformed magical from Dragonspeir’s Dark Realm, Lyra swatted at the insect. Thinking that someone watched her leave caused a chill to run down her spine.
Finally shooing it to the nearby bushes, she lifted her head high, put her bag inside her silver Subaru sport wagon, and drove straight to Drake’s Bookstore.
After parking in back, she twisted her dragon ring to unlock the back door of Cullen’s shop, no longer needing the magical skeleton key. “Sheridan, I’m using your portal,” she called out.
From his cage on the showroom counter, the cicada chirped, “I already knew it was you, sweetheart. Nice perfume.”
Lyra shook her head. Darned bug never stopped flirting.
“By the way, Sire Drake told me to not let you pass. Something about an illness in the Alliance. Don’t make me use my magic on you.”
“I’m going anyway,” she replied as she prepared herself in the storage room.
“Like I knew you would,” he snapped.
She gave her ring another twist and stated, “Pateo porta!”In response, two metal bookcases moved apart. Between them lay the connector to Dragonspeir. She stepped across. The familiar tingling sensation now felt invigorating, when last summer it had frightened her. Her jeans, t-shirt, and jacket transformed into a full-skirted gown of light blue cotton under a navy cloak.
It was her first time back since being publically honored for completing her bloodswear quest and sorcery studies. She’d have to wait to find out if her new abilities could alter the clothing she acquired at the portal.
Lifting one side of the long garments, Lyra ran the short distance along the wooded trail to the location of the old, sentry tree, Gatekeeper Cranewort. Reminding her of the shape of grand live oaks in Florida, his branches spread wide and high, taller than any nearby. His large, flat leathery leaves were turned to collect the warm morning rays.
“Hello, Cranewort,” she called ahead. “I don’t mean to disturb your sunbathing, but I need to pass to the Imperial Dragon’s lair, or to the Meadow—whichever place I can help most with those who are sick.”
“Not sunbathing, child, merely enhancing my immune functioning to bolster my health after the harsh winter. Sire Drake instructed me to not permit your passage. He and all of us fear you will fall ill.” He lifted extensions of his roots into a spiky barricade, one of his gate-keeping defenses.
“Perhaps I can help,” she maintained, hands on her hips.
“It looks to be a horrible disease—elevated fever, chills, vomiting blood. Some are dying. Please stay here, Adalyra.”
“I’m not like any from Dragonspeir. I won’t get it.” Lyra hoped what she said was true but couldn’t turn her back on thousands who were ill.
“Well…you most certainly are unique.” He folded his leaves and tipped his trunk forward to look at her directly. “The Alliance relies on your special scribal abilities to battle the Dark Realm. Losing you to illness would risk too much. Be wise and stay back.” He smoothed down his bark and held out a twigged hand to her.
She stepped beyond his touch. “The entire Alliance is my family, and I need to help them.”
The gnarled tree let out a sigh and lowered his roots. “Very well. You have your own mind, and it is one of a leader. That is your inheritance from the four female Scribes in your family. But, I expect you to use every caution available. Sire Drake is in the Meadow. Stay with him.”
“I promise.” Lyra hurried toward the crossroads, which connected dozens of trails. There she selected the short path leading to the Meadow.
Pluch trees lined the trail. Their weeping branches, active with new sap, swept after Lyra in attempt to caress her golden hair, now grown almost to her waist. Flower buds on the bell flowers peaked out. The air held gentle notes of fragrant jasmine from the vine’s first purple flowers. She took a deep breath as she sped down the familiar walk. She had missed Dragonspeir.
Along the way, Lyra thought about her action, entering the land without permission. Although she recently passed sorcery training for all crafts except powerthrowing, Lyra only elevated her immortal status. In Dragonspeir, they used the term afflation—having received divine impartment of knowledge and strength to endure more physical hardship than a non-magical. Until gaining enough afflation to become fully immortal, she needed to be invited by the Imperial Dragon to be his guest in Dragonspeir.
As a new Alliance sorceress, the Imperial Dragon decided when he needed her. Lyra clearly broke his established protocol. But she often bent Alliance customs to suit her needs while working for the greater good. So far, she had only raised eyebrows, and no one troubled her. She hoped this time would be the same, but entering a plague-ridden land against orders was a bit different than wearing jeans or hugging dragons.

The Enchanted Bookstore Legends are about Lyra McCauley, a woman destined to become one of five strong women in her family who possess unique magical abilities and serve as Scribes in Dragonspeir. The Scribes span a long history, dating from 1200 to present day. Each Scribe is expected to journey through Dragonspeir, both the good and evil factions, then draft a written account. Each book contains magic with vast implications.
Lyra was first introduced to Dragonspeir as a young girl, when she met the high sorcerer, Cullen Drake, through a gift of one of those enchanted books. Using its magic, he escorted her into the parallel world of Dragonspeir. Years later, she lost that volume and forgot the world and Cullen.
Excerpt:

Author spotlight - Paulette Harper

Paulette Harper Johnson, an award winning author, writing coach, and speaker, seeks to inspire women from all walks of life. As an inspirational and motivational speaker, Paulette’s desire is to empower, influence and cultivate women to move forward while dealing with issues that hinder women from becoming all they are created to be. Her topics are biblically sound and pertinent to the needs of today’s women. Paulette is a wife, mother, grandmother, Bible teacher, radio host, writer and the owner of WNL Virtual Blog Tours.

Chapter 9 “Lord, Still I Rise”“Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalms 34:19 AMP)
God creates different roads for each of us; some roads are more difficult to ride. God allows certain people to endure more hardship, perils and sorrows. Though the path might be difficult, this is the way in which God has designed for people to find the results that only come from experiencing the flat tires, wreaks, and blow outs of life. There is a road map that God has that will take people to new journeys and adventures. Getting to this place of new heights will test ability and endurance.
Do you see that you are able to rise above the chaos, mess, and drama? You are unlimited, unrestricted, victorious, and a world over comer. You must choose to live above everything that would capture and ensnare you. I’ve been in bondage, and it doesn’t feel good. I refuse to return or go back to that place where my feelings, thoughts and actions were dictated, and controlled by others. Where is that place?
That place is called confinement. I was not created to be manipulated and broken. Yet, at times I find myself giving into the pressures that infiltrate my mind. I rise above my situations and circumstances that have come to defeat me and cause me to retreat because of what I face. Through every situation this is my confession… Still I rise.

Karla Allen has proven to be an incredible, spiritual force in the Kingdom of God by displaying a God given indomitable spirit to change atmospheres and environments. Through the extraordinary gift of intercession and pure worship, she has become a spiritual weapon in the hand of the Lord whose knowledge is relevant for the church today. She is a dynamic leader, extravagant worshipper and prophetic intercessor whose worship has become a definitive lifestyle that penetrates and permeates every facet of her life and the lives of those she touches. Karla is a leader to leaders and lives a life of committed consistent intercession, giving selflessly of herself in her prayer closet. For over 20 years, as a student and teacher of the Word and woman of faith, she implements the truth of the Bible through the dynamics of intercession and worship that releases a tangible anointing. Knowing firsthand the transformative power of God in her own life, she is determined to see others healed, delivered and set free. Karla will stop at nothing to see God move in the lives of His people!
About the book: How does a person move from a place deficient of light? How can an individual shift from a place of complete and utter chaos, obscurity, apathy, and adversity? The pathway to transformation is through in-depth conversations with the One True God of Creation–El·ō·hēm'. For you to move to a place of prophetic providence, your conversation must be divinely inspired. Hebrews 11:3 states: “The worlds were framed by the Word of God.” Framing begins with an idea, expands as a result of the imagination, and gives life through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through divine utterance for a specific purpose. Declaring the Word of God releases the creative power of God for authentic transformation.
Ms. Allen designed this book to draw you into a deeper conversation with the Father to renew your prayer life, mend your brokenness, enlighten your pathway, and arrange your chaos according to the divine order of God. This resource will help you exercise your kingly and priestly authority and impose kingdom mandates to release God’s original intent in your life, family, community, city, region, and nation. It will encourage you to frame your prophetic destiny.

Author spotlight - Emeka Godwin
EMEKA O. GODWIN lives with wife and two daughters in Natick,Massachusetts. He is the senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Worcester, Massachusetts. Although he was born in Bronx, New York, his Nigerian parents took him back to Africa at the age of three, where he spent twenty-six exciting years. His laid back style of preaching and storytelling is deeply rooted in his years in Africa. When he is not working on his sermons, Emeka can be found in front of his laptop, making up stories. He is the author of the widely praised humorous book,
Diary of An Angry Pastor
.
Here's an excerpt from the book:
As soon as Ann walked up to me from behind and placed her right hand on my left shoulder, I knew that something was wrong. It was not clairvoyance; I just knew that Ann would never walk up to me in the middle of a Sunday service and place her right hand on my shoulder. It was not her style, period.
Bending down until her lips were just an inch close to my right ear, she whispered, “Reverend, they need you outside.” I turned around and looked at her in surprise.
“Right now?” I asked, forcing myself not to raise my voice.
“Yes, right now.” Ann replied. Her face was expressionless, but I knew she was not going to take no for an answer.
“But I can’t go out now,” I said. “I am about to preach in a few minutes.”
“Reverend, they really need you outside.”
At home it was always honey bunny, lollipop, or sweetie-pie, but in the church Ann made it a point of duty to always address me by my ecclesiastical title. I loved it that way, because it shows that she respects my divine calling as a pastor. I have a friend who is a reverend; his wife doesn’t respect him at all when they are in church. I have seen her hand him a grocery list right there in the church, in front of his flocks. Sometimes she nags and scolds him right in front of the people. Ann was different; at home she let me know that I was a mortal man who puts on his pants one leg at a time, but in the church she respects me as her pastor.
“What’s going on?” I asked. “I can’t leave now and you know that.”
“We have a serious situation outside, in the parking lot.” Ann whispered.
“Can’t it wait until after the service?” I asked.
“I don’t think so, Reverend,” she said, shaking her head. “This is really serious.”
I sighed and got up. “Tell the choir to continue singing until I return.” Turning around, I headed for the door. After all these years of being married to Ann, I have learned that she was a woman with a very sharp, analytical mind. If she looks at a situation and says it is serious, there is a hundred percent chance it is.

Excerpt:
The hologram didn’t waste any time. It bent over the console, peering intently at the screen to view the virus’ progress. “You’re right. This is one damned monster.”
“When you researched computer viruses, did you find anything similar to this one?” Instantly, she caught what she said and tried to correct herself with, “I mean, when Leland --my husband-- studied those old programs, he…” Her voice trailed off as the hologram’s head turned, mouth spreading in a teasing grin. The hairs at the nape of Vexen’s neck electrified. That’s exactly what Leland would do.
“Just so there won’t be any confusion, I suggest that you recognize I am…” a gaze ran down the length of her body in an all too intimate, and eerily familiar, way, “the same as your husband.”
Vexen blinked. “You are merely a projection.”
“Of necessity I must possess his knowledge.” Returning its attention to the screen, the image added as if in after thought, “And I hold all his memories.”
“If you assume--” Abruptly, Vexen broke off. She’d never met a hologram with personality before and to think that Leland programmed this one with too much of an attitude set her teeth on edge. But the fact remained that the current emergency, and not the irritation of having to deal with a mouthy computer graphic, demanded she keep a cool head. Clearing her throat, she picked the MR off the console. “You’ll need this.”
“Care to attach it on my sleeve?”
She placed it on the left shirt cuff, but both the MR and her fingers slipped through the non-existent fabric. “You aren’t solid.”
“Ah. I see the problem. Minor interference.” Quickly, digits were punched on the keypad. “Now I’m fully downloaded.”
She tried again to attach the MR, but it dropped in a shoulder pocket. Reaching inside, her hands stilled. Beneath her touch, through the material of the covering uniform, she felt the warmth of a rock hard bicep. Her gaze flew upwards. How come the neatly trimmed beard now looked so realthat it captured the lighting of the overhead lamps, the curling hairs glistening with a damp-like sheen as if freshly emerged from under a sonic shower?
Before she could move away, strong arms came around her waist, enclosing her in a tender but firm hold. “Vexen, baby, you look kinda pale.” His voice, Leland’s deep, husky tones sighed near her earlobe. “But I’m here, my love. I won’t leave you.” Buy links:
