Today is Black Friday and the day for discovering great deals, and I definitely have one for you! Tia Kelly is sharing her new release and giving away an electronic copy to one lucky commenter!

Description: Kenneth Wilkerson, baseball's MVP of breaking hearts isn't in Craymont looking for complications. With an injury that has him sidelined from the game he loves, and the latest scandal in his wake involving a woman who is very much engaged to someone else, the last thing he needs is to get mixed up with Paige Scott.
Paige Scott, a formBut Kenneth lets nothing stand between him and what he loves.Love for the game… his family… and her.
PLAYING FOR LOVE is the first novel from the Wilkersons in Love series. Tia Kelly invites you to come meet the Wilkersons and get ready to fall in love.

Excerpt
“Open the door, Paige,” Kenneth demanded in between knocks. He pulled up just in time to see her walk into her front door. His athlete’s reflexes were not enough to make it before she slammed it in his face. Finally the door swung open. “I need you to leave.”Kenneth pushed himself inside and reached out to tilt her face upward. He felt the dampness on her skin and felt worse.“I probably shouldn’t have left, but I didn’t know what to expect after last night.”Paige pulled back, wrapping her arms around herself. “You didn’t know? Or didn’t care.”Kenneth leaned against the wall and let his head fall back. “Paige, you were drunk.”“And that makes this better?”“No, it doesn’t.”He looked at her while she took a seat at the bottom of her steps.“Why did you do that?”Paige looked away, chewing nervously on her lip while tugging at her shirtsleeve. “I don’t know.”“I think you do.”“Is that what you do? Psychoanalyze the women you sleep with the morning after?”“Paige, I don’t have any regrets about last night except for one.”She looked up and searched his face to prepare her for what he was about to say. “And that is?”“That I was the only one that actually wantedto be there.”Paige pulled back and stared at him. “You make it sound like I used you.”“Didn’t you?”Paige huffed. “We have to work together until you’re released back to your team. I can’t have this conversation with you every time we cross paths.”“And you won’t.” He stared back to her and sat on the staircase next to her. “Look at me, Paige.”She glanced up, releasing the edge of her sleeve. Her expectancy and uncertainty warned him that whatever he had to say, he needed to be careful in how he delivered it.“Typically, I don’t care about what happens the morning after, but there’s something in your eyes that tells me last night was more than just a one nighter for you.”“What makes you think that?”
“Because last night scared me, too.”

Thankful

Giving thanks to God for the wonderful things in my life, big and small…

Having a family and loved ones to invite to dinner

Being physically able to cook and clean and do all of the things necessary to prepare for this day

His angels that protect our guests as they travel

A house where I can welcome people that’s big enough to hold them all J

Being able to buy whatever is necessary to make this day a blessing to everyone

Our combined family gift to Hosea Feed the Hungry for Christmas

That my entire immediate family is here in Atlanta

My grandchildren, who fill the day with laughter and nonsense
(This was taken last Thanksgiving.)

A day filled with the spirit of peace free from any conflict or strife

Pistachio cake, cornbread dressing, sweet potato pie, sour cream pound cake and anything chocolate that I’ll be working off at the gym starting December 11th…

The presence of mind to know Whom to thank...

The best review yet!

I've been busy working on TILL YOU COME BACK TO ME, but I just had to share this. I got the best review of A WOMAN'S WORTH this week from reviewer N.W. on Amazon...

"This story was superbly written. The title is telling. Women sometimes measure their worth in many ways. For Gianne, getting a clean bill of health after going through two years of cancer treatment was freeing, but still not enough for her to see her true worth. Enter Marc Stafford, the fourth son of the oncologist that treated Gianne, who seems to know almost instantly that this woman is a rare gem, one that he is willing to do almost anything to connect with. We get introduced to the Stafford family, which while successful is by no means perfect. They have complicated layers of sibling rivalry and parental disappointment. Still, they fill you with a warm feeling and I look forward to getting to know them better in future stories of Chicki Brown.

I love the way Chicki Brown takes us through the emotional roller coaster of a cancer survivor, while also acquainting us to the healthy eating lifestyle of raw vegans. I guarantee you will be at least curious about this way of eating before you finish! This story has all the ingredients of a true love story. It was beautifully written, you will not be disappointed!"

New Release from Adrienne Thompson

Today I am honored to feature the new release: Your Love Is King by Adrienne Thompson.

Book description:
Divorced nurse and single mom, Marli Meadows, finds herself stuck in a rut. She’s tired of her life and decides to leave it behind and embark on a search for change. What she finds instead, is love.

Excerpt: From Chapter 14, “The Sweetest Taboo”:
I shrugged, thinking to myself that he was crazy and that anyone who saw us would think we were both crazy. I took his hand and let him pull me into his arms. With his phone sitting on the roof of his car providing the music, we danced beneath the stars on the hospital parking lot. I closed my eyes and thought to myself that I loved the way his arms felt around me. Just like he said, I was a perfect fit—we were a perfect fit for each other. I opened my eyes and looked up at his face. His eyes were closed as he mouthed the words to the song, and he looked so handsome. I reached up and gently caressed his cheek, letting my fingers fall to graze his neck. I wanted to kiss him so badly. I always wanted to kiss him.  I couldn’t get enough of him or his kisses or the feeling of his arms around me. Was I in love with him? If I wasn’t, I definitely wanted to be, and the feeling of wanting to be in love was strange, almost foreign to me. I’d spent most of my adult life running away from that feeling. He opened his eyes and grasped my hand as it traveled to his chest. He brought my hand to his lips and kissed it softly. Then he leaned forward and kissed my lips again. When we finally parted, it was well past the time for me to return to work.

Author Spotlight - Diane Brown

My guest today is a unique woman who has written a unique book that is definitely worth your reading time.
Diane Malakia Brown was born in the Mpumalanga, South Africa and grew up between Swaziland and South Africa. She attended the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts and later acquired additional qualifications through other institutions.

She has had an illustrious and rewarding professional life through consulting and leadership roles with government, non profit, private and international organisations. She enjoys travelling and has always wanted to write books.

Now in her forties, her life long dream was realized when she was published in 2013. Her first book "The Sabi" has been receiving high accolades from readers around the world and has already been featured in some media outlets. Her next two works will be published in 2014

“Apartheid, South Africa. You’ve probably seen the footage of the violence and discrimination on the media of what black South Africans were subjected to but, what is left out  is the entrenched and ingrained after effects of being exposed to such a violent system that has permeated into the very being of South African people, their homes and families. My story is a personal account of what it really means to be a South African having been exposed to this system. Just like Hiroshima, the effects on the people who were exposed it are devastating, ugly , long term and effect their daily lives." - Diane Brown
She does not know how, but has a sabi from her earliest memory that she was different. What she does know is that 'difference' had currency in the past, and it certainly still has currency today. In her debut novel, Diane Brown takes a scenic and open-eyed walk down memory lane to the 1960's when apartheid was in full swing to the early 1990's when South Africa was beginning to sense freedom. She ventures further back in time to help solve the puzzle of the current time, how did South Africa become so angry and so violent? Writing from the heart to relate the events of her childhood and adolescence, the author takes you on a journey that will make you cry and laugh along with her as she tried to make sense of her life, the people around her and the system into which she was born. She is no doubt left extremely vulnerable and exposed in relating this account of her life. This honesty is anchored in an easy writing style which is deeply reflective, with an acute sense of contextual reasoning. She reflects on the news of the day in a 'free' country, tainted with the heavy stench of death, violence and abuse and notes that all too familiar script. She finally realises... Her story must be told.
The Sabi will definitely have an effect on you and stay with you for many days long after you have read it .The style in which Diane has written the book, allows the reader to hold her hand throughout her journey. You will laugh, cry, celebrate and even mourn with her.

Author Spotlight - Dominique Wilkins

Today my special guest is author Dominique Wilkins, better known to some of us as Dee Double-u.

Dee came by to share her new release,  I Need a Little More Jesus , with us.

DESCRIPTION:
Seventeen-year-old Giselle Donahue, is banished from her home when she becomes pregnant without a husband for fear of their community discovering her secret. Her father refused to allow her to return for even a visit or check in with her ailing mother, suffering from chemotherapy treatments.

On her own, Giselle is filled with fear, regret, and guilt because she feels that God might be punishing her for her sin. After undergoing more pain and misery in exile, Giselle eventually meets Mitch, an older widow and Veronica, a prostitute who are also fighting their own demons. Their life experiences cause them to question their faith in a God that would allow such suffering, until they discover that their meeting is more than an accident.

EXCERPT:Giselle tipped up the stairs and strained to reach the third flower pot from the end, where the spare key was hidden. It was harder work stretching over this bannister today than it ever seemed before. It felt like either her arm had become shorter or the window ledge had grown longer. Leaning over the railing was killing her as it pushed on her enlarged belly. As she leaned in, it seemed like the baby inside of her was pushing away with his feet (even the baby knew that she should not be there).
She was so preoccupied with getting the key, that she hadn’t notice the Cadillac pulling up behind her quietly, or the once empty block seeming to fill up with foot traffic. She hadn’t expected it to take so long to get into the house. Giselle knew she wasn’t supposed to be here, but she figured that if she came early after everyone had left for work and school, no one would pay any attention to her sneaking in through the front with a key.The big, burly man, who had been staring, quickly exited his car and walked up to her and was upon her before she knew it. He moved so quickly, she was not alerted of his presence until she heard his voice growl behind her, “What are you doing here? What do you want from us?”
The unexpected sound of his voice and the anger in its tone scared her so much, she was sure she may have peed on herself a little. She whirled around to face him, unable to hide the guilty expression on her face. She hadn’t expected him to be there. She purposely planned to get the spare key and get in after he had left for the day. She was speechless and looking for words to say to explain being caught with her “hands in the cookie jar.” Pastor Donahue wanted to know why she was trying to get into his house without an invitation and she had no answer!
Since she didn’t respond, he spoke again, “Leave this place at once and do not come back again, if you know what is good for you!”
At that moment, she suddenly found her voice, and it was just as angry as his, “I left because I wanted to, but as long as my mother is here and she is sick, you cannot tell me that I can’t come back here to see her. I am a grown woman and if I want to see my mother, then I will, unless she tells me directly not to.”
No sooner than the words left her lips, her father’s hands left his sides. He only intended to grab her arms and shake some sense into her. It was not the way that he raised this rebellious girl to talk back to her elder, let alone, her father. He had not realized that his harmless intent combined with her positioning on the stairs would cause her to fall down the flight of stairs.
Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.( Proverbs 19:11)
He stood there at the top of the stairs towering down over his pregnant daughter as she lay sprawled across the ground at the foot of their home- in front of everyone to see, including his wife, who had decided at that moment to muster enough energy to greet the mail lady, whom she thought was responsible for the noise coming from the porch…

Marc finally has his say...

What’s up? I’m Marc Stafford. And since everybody else has given their opinion, I figured I might as well. This visit home has turned out to be more than I expected.

My mother was happy to see me, as usual, but my father still has a bug up his butt about my decision to leave medical school and change my major to exercise kinesiology. Even though I’m now running a very successful personal training business and have several celebrity clients, he’s still not pleased.
The best part about this visit was meeting Gianne.  When I saw this sepia-skinned beauty with very short platinum blonde hair sipping from her glass with plump wine-colored lips, I couldn’t move. She’s small and delicate, yet she still stood out in the room full of well-dressed, attractive women. Meeting her turned the whole miserable night around.
Since I’m only going to be in town for three more days, I have to figure out a way to see her again. I think I’ve come up with a way to do that…

How Gianne sees things...

Hello. I am Gianne Marvray. My oncologist invited me to a dinner at the Twelve Hotel celebrating his oldest son’s promotion to hospital Chief of Staff. This was the first time I'd been out anywhere special since I got sick. I have looked and felt so bad for the past twenty-two months, I had no desire to socialize.
Now that Dr. Stafford has given me the good news, I had to celebrate. So I decided to change my hair, which has finally grown out a couple of inches since I finished the chemo. My best friend, Stefanie, did my makeup, and I was looking good, if I must say so myself.
I never expected to meet anyone tonight, but the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen came over to my table and introduced himself. He just happened to be one of Dr. Stafford’s sons. We talked for the rest of the evening, and he just invited me to come to his parents’ house for dessert.

This should be interesting…

New Release Spotlight - Daydream's Daughter, Nightmare's Friend

Today I am excited to present a brand new release from one of my tweethearts, author Nonnie Jules.

Blurb:
"She was one horrible mess.  Always looking over her shoulder, avoiding becoming too friendly with the neighbors, never letting her kids out of her sight for fear of human monsters lurking around corners, waiting to cause them harm.  That anxiety stemmed from her own childhood memories.  Always fearing  that someone would recognize her face, she kept to herself and didn't go out much.  And when she did, no matter the season, she wore some kind of hat or covering on her head, enough to shield her face.  HE had done this to her even though he was dead now.
Walter never understood why she was such a loner, avoiding  people as much as she could, and just being extremely anti-social outside of the house.  Houston was originally her home, not his, yet she didn't even want her own family and friends to know that she had returned.  The only person she found herself able to really open up with was him.  And although she tried to make him feel otherwise, he knew that there was still a huge wall up that even he would never be able to see over or climb.
Marisa had a secret and if it was ever discovered, it could cost her her life and her freedom."
Review:"I couldn't put this book down! Every chapter that I read kept me on the edge of my seat, excited about what was to come in the next chapter.  I want more...so hope there's a sequel! Lifetime Television...watch out for DAYDREAM'S DAUGHTER, NIGHTMARE'S FRIEND.  You're going to want to turn this script into a movie!"- P.J. Soemer, Book Lover
