Will You Welcome Beltane 2024?

Beltane is a Celtic word for what most Americans call 'MAY DAY.'  In the Northern hemisphere where I live, it is celebrated April 30 through May 1 2024. 

Most people consider May Day an ancient European festival. I am not sure if anyone in the United States will gather flowers to decorate a May Pole, or crown a May Queen, or dance around an actual May Pole, but it sure looks like fun.

Read Audio Books for EARTH DAY 2024

Why waste paper when you can listen to my books? This April 22, 2024 is Earth Day. I remember the first one in 1970 (54 years ago!) There was no such thing as books you could read on a phone. Although paper from trees is renewable, try the convenience of listening to my stories.

I Discovered a Baking Scot... Coinneach MacLeod

I had heard about Coinneach MacLeod, mostly because I automatically 'click' concerning other authors... especially Scottish authors. Imagine my surprise when my son returned from the Ashville (NC) Celtic Festival and presented me with an autographed copy of his book The Hebridean Baker.

I immediately added flags to the pages of recipes I felt I might be able to create. It will take some doing to covert a few things (such as caster sugar, treacle, and bicarbonate of soda) but the author has a page showing conversions. My son bought himself an autographed copy of The Hebridean Baker at Home. Here's to baking with a homespun Scottish flare!

My husband has a birthday coming soon so I will choose one or two recipes to try. Giving that we are both of Scottish descent, I am thrilled to read and reread my book while I find time to create more of my own books.

Daffodils? Can Spring be Far Behind?

My husband called out to me... "Something wonderful has happened in our yard!" This was a few days before Valentine's Day 2024. Daffodils had bloomed! We have been watching snow storms on the news and our own morning temperatures have been in the 30's, but life goes on.

He cut a few and we delivered them to my mom so she could enjoy them for Valentine's Day. What inspires me is that these plants came with the house and have been slowly multiplying over the last sixteen years since we left New Hampshire and bought our lovely home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Until the weather is a little bit warmer, do what I do...

Spring is on the way. I have plans to replace a dripping faucet, paint some worn trim, replace knobs on my old kitchen cabinets, and fill more boxes to donate away to worthy groups. What will you do when you realize the days are getting longer?

As a woman who faced many  medical issues

 in the previous year, take my advice: 

DO NOT WASTE A MINUTE!

Already Groundhog Day? Where did January go?

 

It does not matter if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not. Enjoy the coming of Spring. Days are getting longer! Here, in Raleigh North Carolina, I was surprised that the sun has been shining and the temperature was in the 60's this week.
Now, if you live in the chilly north or along the very wet California coast, just wait... the weather HAS to get better! And if your February and March prove dull, cold, and dreary and you are still stuck inside...READ BOOKS!

While I take time off from writing my next book, I am diving into my family genealogy. I am still searching for that percentage of me that Ancestry.com claims is from Scotland. In the meantime, I am shredding old papers, packing up items to donate, and sharing Proverbs. Comments welcome!

Chilly temps, flooding, snow drifts... whatever the weather you are experiencing, my wish for you is a quiet, colorful week followed by the enjoyment of the last few days of 2023.

Many of my readers are aware that 2023 was hard for me (eye surgery, two Emergency Room visits, two overnight stays due to trauma and then heart surgery) so I am looking forward to an uneventful 2024. 

I have had three vaccines since August (RSV, FLU, and Covid) so am hoping the pin-cushion days end soon, too. We all must decide what is best for US.

I am working on the family ancestry to make sure the next generation sees the strong, wonderful people we come from.

I want to continue with my writing and look forward to reading more. What will you be looking forward to next year?

"Santa is on his way," we hear kids say but I am looking forward to many other 'adult-themed' things. December 22st is called the Winter Equinox and is the shortest day of the year. What does that mean to me? The days start getting longer on December 23rd!
