Children and Vaccinations

I would like to dedicate this post to an author I am editing right now (and should be editing right now) for causing me to do some fact checking on Smallpox (trying to find out if it was referred to as smallpox or small pox in Victorian England). Smallpox was horrible, much worse than I’d thought. In a city like London, which was filthy, death rates were high. I discovered from wiki that Lady Mary Wortley Montague, wife of the British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, helped introduce the vac...

Not Your Kind of People

Sometimes when I get new music there’s a song that particularly strikes me, fits the place I’m at. Feels a little like an anthem of a sort. And it’s nice to know someone else felt the same, enough to write a song I can identify with enough. It is/was a popular song at the time, so obviously it struck a chord, much as Radiohead’s “Creep” did. There are a lot of us, apparently.

This is from the band Garbage, who I’ve always liked. I know someone who could give you a much better history of the ba...

30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself

Reblogged from: http://www.marcandangel.com/2011/12/11/30-things-to-stop-doing-to-yourself/

Given some of the things that have been happening over the past few years (few dozen?) in my life, but especially the past few, I think these are somewhat appropriate. I’ve started to think of it in another way as well–take ownership of yourself and your actions. Sort of, in a more mechanical way, like buying a car. You are responsible for making sure the oil gets changed. No one else is going to do it...

Happy Halloween

Halloween Wallpaper Background 021

I stumbled upon, as one tends to do on the internet. pugs in costumes. Pugs seem to be one of those dogs that you either really like or really don’t like. I really like them. When you look them up in dog books, where they have what they were originally bred for, it generally says something like, “Companionship.” All they were ever meant to to, then, la raison d’être, is to make people happy (so think about that, all the non-pug people. How many other, non-paid, creatures are here on this eart...

Adorable Talking Porcupine Loves Pumpkin

Yes, really. I didn’t know they made noises, either. I always thought of them as these silent critters toddling around the woods in search of food. This one has lucked out: not only does he have food, he has a table to eat it on. I used the title the video was given on the blog I reblogged it from:

Satellite of Love

I felt I should mark this somehow, but was not exactly sure. I knew the Lou Reed of the Transformer era, not the Velvet Underground era. I’m a child of the 1980s. A somewhat sheltered, out of the way place in the 1980s.

There is an article in Rolling Stone:

And here is the link to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to The Velvet Underground:

From Wikipedia, notes given below:

Events involving espionage are well documented throughout history. The ancient writings of Chinese and Indian military strategists such as Sun-Tzu and Chanakya contain information on deception and subversion. Chanakya’s student Chandragupta Maurya, founder of the Maurya Empire in India, made use of assass...

Just Because it’s Friday

I wrote a big long rant, but then didn’t feel like posting it. It’s Friday. I don’t want to rant. I’m not quite as angry as I was, so I suppose it helped some.

I experimented with my first fruit/veggie smoothie. It’s drinkable! Apricot nectar, a not quite ripe pear, ditto for the banana, a little coconut milk, and a can of beets. I let Tucker sniff it, and he decided to pass. It’s a very pretty plum jam color. I really like plum jam. I haven’t had that in a while…

Anyway, enough of all this non...

Communist Lesbian Cookies?

Silly me, I thought cookies were just…cookies. Well, some are gluten-free. I had no idea they even registered to vote, or had political affiliations. This article was originally found on QueerEugene Web. They also have a Facebook page. Queer Eugene, not the cookies. :-) I suspect the cookies may have a web presence as well. Especially after this. I really, really love the chocolate mint ones. They freeze well, too.

But apparently, these cookies are worse than destroying US National Parks, much mo...

Experimental Post / Review from Goodreads / Cross-Posting

All right. If this makes sense to anyone, my blog is connected to my Goodreads page, but I took the Goodreads “latest reads” off my page because it wasn’t working (and I haven’t checked to see if it again). Just sticking something up there for Goodreads makes me feel as if I’m advertising for Amazon, which I may be since I’m not a “premium” member and on my end, I just see little bubbles stuck on my posts that say “an ad may be posted here.” So if anything particularly vile shows up, it wasn’...
