Update on Book 3, We Give a Squid a Wedgie

Due to some factors beyond my control, the 3rd book in the Accidental Adventure series, We Give a Squid a Wedgie, has a new publication date in April 2013 (and a new look...more to come on that). You can, of course, pre-order it so you get it right when it comes out.
I apologize for the delay and I assure you, it will be worth the wait!
Here's a random part of the book to whet your appetite:

The Endangered Authors Tour!

I'm about to head out on a multi-state, multi-author tour with Jacqueline West (The Books of Elsewhere), Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark and Grimm), and E.J. Altbacker (Shark Wars). We've teamed up with the extremely talented Story Pirates to present the “Endangered Authors Tour” — a game-show themed program where horrible things happen to us authors. We'll be visiting schools and bookstores in Texas, California, and New York.

Twitter, Book Nerds, and PD

Over at Choice Literacy, Franki Sibberson chats with Donalyn Miller, Colby Sharp, and Cindy Minnich about the power and reach of online reading communities. They also discuss the creation and evolution of "The Nerdy Book Club" (also, Donalyn ends by quoting me, so you know, my ears were burning and my head swelled a little when this was posted...amazing how pride is so much like the Ebola virus).

GeekDad!

One of my favorite blogs, GeekDad at Wired.com has a fun and thoughtful review of the Accidental Adventures series up. You can read the whole thing here, but I wanted to share my favorite part:

Your Accidental Adventure in Six-Words. WIN A KINDLE!
That Six-Word Memoir tells the true story of the inspiration for my first novel for young readers in the Accidental Adventures series, We Are Not Eaten By Yaks. To read the story behind it, click here.
To celebrate the publication of Book 2 in the Accidental Adventures series, We Dine With Cannibals, I’m teaming up with SMITH Magazine’s Six-Word Memoir Project and we want to know about your most accidental adventure.
Between November 10th-30th, share a Six-Word Memoir about your own most accidental adventure and you’ll be entered to win a Kindle (with special offers)!*
There are 2 ways to enter the Accidental Adventures Kindle Contest (AAKC!):
On SMITH Magazine:
Answer the Six-Word Question (in 6 words) on SMITH Mag: What was your most accidental adventure?
And you’ll automatically be entered to win.
Or, on Twitter:
1. Follow @ca_london
2. Tweet your Six-Word accidental adventure memoir with the hashtag #AccidentalAdventure
That’s all you have to do!
All eligible entries will be compiled at the end of the contest and a Grand Prize winner will be chosen at random using Random.org.
As a BONUS PRIZE: Share this contest announcement on twitter with the #AccidentalAdventure hasthag and you’ll be entered to win a signed paperback of Book 1, We Are Not Eaten by Yaks and a signed hardcover copy of We Dine With Cannibals.
*RULES! Without them, we'd live in chaos: US residents only. Only one entry per person will be eligible. Winner will be selected at random (using random.org) and notified by DM on Twitter or email via SMITHMag.net. Winner will receive an Amazon Kindle-With-Special-Offers Wi-Fi 6” Graphite Reading Device and an eBook copy of We Dine With Cannibals: An Accidental Adventure Book 2
NB:This contest idea was cribbed from Jonathan Auxier, fabulous author of Peter Nimble & His Fantastic Eyes, who in turn stole it from Nathan Bransford, who gave away a Kindle for his novel Jacob Wonderbar. They are both both talented authors whose books will take you on adventures of their own.

Come to my house this Fall! Skype in your Classroom!
Not literally. I don't have enough chairs.
But I do want your class of 4th, 5th, or 6th graders to visit with me via Skype.
I guess I could have said that I'll visit your classroom, but it seemed rude to invite myself over.
Let me put it this way, this Fall, starting in September and leading up to the November 15th release of We Dine With Cannibals Book 2 in the Accidental Adventures series, I'll be doing a skype tour to talk with classrooms across the country (or the world? hmmm...) about how I became an author, how I write, why I write, what I write and, because the camera goes both ways, where I write. You can see my super-top secret writing lair and meet my trusty sidekick, Baxter (he's a dog. He doesn't say much during the visits).
I'll answer questions, we'll chat and generally have a good time through the magic of the internet.
And this is the best part, I'll do it for FREE!
Sound good?
Interested teachers and media specialists should email me: charles@calondon.com and use the subject line SKYPE VISIT! In the body of your email, let me know:
where you live (please include time zone)
what grade(s) you'd like me to talk to
how large your group is expected to be, if you have any idea
whether you’ve ever skyped with a classroom visitor before
your ideal date and time for a 30 minute visit
if you want to be in touch with someone at Penguin Books for Young Readers to arrange book ordering.
Then, I’ll email back, and we can confirm dates and times and details, and I'll send you my Skype name.
It's first come first serve, so don't delay!
(Parents Please Note: if you are interested in having me skype with your child's class, please forward this information to the teacher or media specialist at your child’s school, and have that person contact me. It gets confusing otherwise. Although, parents, do feel free to write about whatever you like, otherwise)
