Words...words...words

I've gotten quite addicted to Words with Friends on my iPhone....playing up to four games at a time with friends.

The game, an electronic version of Scrabble, has tweaked my interest in the actual game.

So, I was game when a chance to review AND giveaway a "travel" version of the original game - Milton Bradley's Scrabble Travel Folio, dropped in my e-mail inbox, thanks to everygameroom.com, a division of CSN Stores.

Not familiar with CSN - It's ok, I wasn't either...

According to my research (a....

Blog Tour: Touching the Clouds (Review & Interview)

She went looking for adventure . . . and found more than she bargained for.

In Bonnie Leon's newest novel, Touching the Clouds, pilot Kate Evans is looking for a future filled with adventure as an Alaskan bush pilot during the 1930s- all while running away from a past filled with pain.

Leon said she crafted the story, based in Alaska, because of her family heritage.

"My mother grew up on a homestead in the bush. There were no roads in and out of their place so her family relied upon bush pilots ...

Blog Tour: Perfectly Dateless (Review)

The prom countdown has begun.

Daisy Crispin has 196 days to find the right date for the prom. There's only one problem--her parents won't let her date or even talk to a guy on the phone. Oh, and she's totally invisible at school, wears lame homemade clothes, and possesses no social skills. Okay, so maybe there's more than one problem.

Can she talk her parents into letting her go to the prom? Or will they succeed at their obvious attempts to completely ruin her life?

What I Thought
I think a...

Freebie Alert!

A few weeks ago, I purchased Kate Hadfield's collab with Kaye Winiecki - Let's Play, and also purchased the bumper pack of games printables created by the wonderful Sara Lively - Let's Play Now.

The games in the "Let's Play Now" inspired me to create three "car" games for the then-upcoming Mission Trip.

I sent them to Kate, as a "thanks for making me look good gift." (She always makes me look good - or at least makes my children's ministry blog shine - http://kidz-zone-ss.blogspot.com thanks to...

Destination: Little Rock - Day 3

Destination: Little Rock Day 3
Today, our last "full" day of work, we spent the morning sorting cans of food at the Arkansas Rice Depot.

The Rice Depot is a hunger ministry that works with a variety of groups including food banks throughout the state, a senior feeding program and a school feeding program.

We sorted two pallets of cans (many donated from Allen Canning) into "sets" of 80 cans - i.e. 80 cans of green beans, 80 cans of white potatoes, 80 cans of hominy, etc.

The kids worked really ha...

Destination: Little Rock - Day 2

Rolling with the experience, is a good way to sum up today's mission trip projects.

This morning we worked at Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church in downtown Little Rock. The church has several ministry outreaches including a food bank, weekly meal on Sundays and more.

We initially thought that we would be sorting items and things in the food bank. However, it looked like some extra volunteers had gotten a jump on next week's "sorting," so our project changed.

This is where the "rolling" wit...

Destination: Little Rock - Day 1

What I'm Up To - Destination: Little Rock A mission experience for older elementary/middle school students.

Destination: Little Rock - Day 1
As I type this update, the kids (and adults) are starting to wind down and head to bed.
We've had a great first day.

My wifi is limited, so updates throughout the day are going to happen via my twitter account (kaytebug) or facebook (either my own account, if you are my "friend" or on the church's page - www.facebook.com/fumcss)

Today has been a day of trave...

Blog Tour: A Love of Her Own (Review)

It's here, in Lewiston, Montana, where April McBride travels to attend her brother's wedding. Still cautious after a broken engagement, she fully intends to guard her heart.

One look around the small mining town convinces April that doing so won't be difficult—just a bunch of dusty shops, bad service, and ill-bred cowboys. But a run-in with horse trainer Wes Owen opens up vast possibilities for frustration, embarrassment, friendship, and . . . love?

Can April and Wes see past their...
