What You Don’t Learn About the Civil War in School
The Skeptic’s Guide to American History (2012)
Episode 8 The Civil War’s Actually Turning Points
Film Review
If they cover the Civil War at all, most high school history classes, pay most attention to the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863), the bloodiest battle ever on the North American continent. Despite the high number of casualties on both sides (dead and wounded: Union 23,000, Confederacy 28,000), neither side prevailed.
The battle of Antietam (aka the Battle of Sharpsburg) Maryland, the next day was far more consequential. In this battle Union General George B McClellan halted Lee’s invasion of Maryland, but his army had suffered heavier losses and Lee successfully withdrew his army back to Virginia. McClellan’s refusal to pursue Lee’s army led President Lincoln to remove him from command.
Although the battle was tactically inconclusive, Lincoln used the strategic victory (Confederate troops withdrew first), as an excuse to enact the Emancipation Proclamation. This executive order was purely symbolic as it only freed slaves in the Confederate states. Lincoln’s primary goal was to discourage Britain (which had a large and vocal anti-slavery movement) from entering war on the side of the Confederacy.
For his part, Confederate General Robert E Lee (considered invincible prior to Gettysburg) had embarked on a campaign to attack northern cities (starting with Gettysburg Pennsylvania) in hopes of bringing both Britain and France into the war on the side of the Confederacy. Most historians believe if he had prevailed in just one northern battle, Britain (and eventually France) would have provided military support to the Confederacy.*
Stoler believes that Lee was a far more skilled military tactician than most of the Union generals prior to Ulysses S Grant. Grant’s capture of the Confederate city of Vicksburg (Mississippi) would split Confederate forces in two, while reopening Union access to the Mississippi River.
Based on this victory on March 1864, Lincoln promoted Grant (who previously commanded the Army of Tennessee) to Lieutenant General and put him in charge of all the Union Armies.
Grant’s Overland Campaign was a series of brutal battles fought in Virginia for seven weeks during May and June 1864. Despite incurring more than 17,000 casualties, Grant continued his campaign to push Confederate troops out of Virginia. His reckless disregard of Union casualties earned him the nickname of “The Butcher” and threatened Lincoln’s reelection campaign.
In 1864, the Democrats nominated former Union general George McClellan as the peace candidate to oppose Lincoln. McClellan pledged to recognize the Confederacy if elected.
In the end, the Union army’s victory’s at Mobile Bay (Alabama) and Cedar Creek (Virginia) would ensure Lincoln’s victory.
*Both the French and British were tempted to support the Confederacy because it was their advantage to deal with two smaller weaker countries than a large strong one. French support had been decisive in the rebels’ victory during the War of Independence.

Mom Whose 14-Year-Old Son Developed Myocarditis After Pfizer Vaccine No Longer Trusts CDC, Public Health Officials

In an interview with The Defender, Emily Jo said when health officials push the vaccines it’s “we’re all in this together,” but when you follow their advice and you’re injured by a vaccine, you’re on your own.
Aiden Jo, 14, is spending his freshman year of high school sitting alone on the sidelines because he can’t engage in any physical activity, his mother said. When most kids are in gym class, Aiden is resting in an effort to keep his heart rate lowered, after being diagnosed with heart inflammation doctors say he developed after receiving Pfizer’s COVID vaccine.
In an exclusive interview with The Defender, Emily Jo, Aiden’s mother, said before her son got the vaccine, she was led to believe his chance of suffering an adverse reaction was “one in a million.”
Aiden, from Georgia, received his first dose of Pfizer on May 12. He had no history of COVID or pre-existing conditions except for asthma. “We were one of the first ones, and I believe that may have been the day the CDC cleared it,” Jo said.
On June 10, several days after his second dose, Aiden woke his mother up at 4:30 a.m. because his chest hurt and he couldn’t breathe.
Jo said she was aware of the potential side effect of heart inflammation, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it was very rare and mild.
“What they didn’t explain is that mild means hospital care and follow-up care indefinitely,” Jo said.
Jo took her son to an emergency room in Atlanta, where the CDC has its headquarters. The ER doctor first asked whether Aiden had his vaccine, then tested his troponin level to see if his heart muscle had been damaged. Doctors also ran an EKG.
After both tests came back as abnormal, Aiden was admitted to the acute cardiac unit.
The first night Aiden stayed in the hospital his troponin number quadrupled overnight. Aiden’s mother said the cardiologist reported it to the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS I.D. 1396660), and was in contact with the CDC multiple times during his four-day hospital stay.
“They determined that yes, he met the criteria of having post-vaccine myocarditis,” Jo said.
“The biggest problem is they [CDC] are not explaining what mild myocarditis means,” Jo said. “Aiden’s cardiologist told us no case of myocarditis is ‘mild.’ That’s like saying a heart attack is mild.”
Jo said her son gets very tired easily and his recovery will be a long process.
“He can’t do any physical activity, no recess, no PE, he has to have more time to go between classes until he has a cardiopulmonary stress test that shows his heart can handle the stress,” she said.

A new preprint study showed mRNA vaccines’ effectiveness plummeted in July when Delta variant was dominant — with Moderna only 76% effective and Pfizer only 42% effective against infection.
A new preprint study that raises concerns about the effectiveness of mRNA COVID vaccines — particularly Pfizer’s — against the Delta variant has caught the attention of top Biden administration officials, Axios reported. The study found Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine was only 42% effective against infection in July, when the Delta variant was dominant. “If that’s not a wake up call, I don’t know what is,” a senior Biden official told Axios.
The study, which has yet to be peer-reviewed, compared the effectiveness of Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines in the Mayo Clinic Health System from January to July 2021, during which time either the Alpha or Delta variant were highly prevalent.
To determine vaccine effectiveness, researchers matched demographically and “clinically similar” unvaccinated, Moderna-vaccinated and Pfizer-vaccinated individuals by sex, race, ethnicity, state of residence, SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing history and date of vaccination, according to MedPage Today.
Clinical outcomes of interest included SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-associated hospitalization, ICU admission, mortality and breakthrough infection — defined as infection occurring at least 14 days after the second dose of mRNA vaccine.
Overall, researchers found Moderna’s vaccine was 86% effective against infection over the study period, and Pfizer’s was 76% effective. Moderna’s vaccine was 92% effective against hospitalization and Pfizer’s was 85% effective. There were no deaths in either cohort.
According to data from multiple states, breakthrough infections were less likely among the Moderna cohort versus the Pfizer cohort, and the rate of hospitalization was lower among those vaccinated with Moderna compared with Pfizer. The authors found that COVID-associated ICU admission rates were comparable.
But vaccine efficacy dropped sharply in July, when the Delta variant was more prevalent. Moderna was only 76% effective against infection and Pfizer was only 42% effective.
Researchers noted the Delta variant prevalence in Minnesota increased from 0.7% in May to over 70% in July, whereas the Alpha variant prevalence decreased from 85% to 13% over the same time period.
Comparing rates of infection between individuals fully vaccinated with Pfizer and Moderna across Mayo Clinic Health System sites in multiple states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida and Iowa, Moderna conferred a two-fold risk reduction against breakthrough infection compared to Pfizer.
In Florida, the risk of infection in July after full vaccination with Moderna was about 60% lower than after full vaccination with Pfizer.
“We observed a pronounced reduction in the effectiveness of BNT162b2 [Pfizer] coinciding with the surging prevalence of the Delta variant in the United States, but this temporal association does not imply causality,” Venky Soundararajan and his co-authors wrote.
The authors concluded “further evaluation of mechanisms underlying differences in their effectiveness such as dosing regimens and vaccine composition are warranted.”
The two shots both use mRNA technology, but Moderna is given in a stronger dose than Pfizer, and there is a slightly different time interval between shots, Axios reported.
“There are a few differences between what are known to be similar vaccines … None of these variables is an obvious smoking gun, although the dosing amount seems the most likely to be a factor,” said Cornell virologist John Moore.
In a statement to Axios, Pfizer said it and BioNTech “expect to be able to develop and produce a tailor-made vaccine against that variant in approximately 100 days after a decision to do so, subject to regulatory approval.

Study: The Most Highly-Educated Americans Are Also The Most Vaccine-Hesitant
by Jim Watkins
A new report by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh has found that the most highly educated Americans are also the most vaccine hesitant.
The researchers canvassed no fewer than 5 million Americans who responded to surveys on whether they were “probably” or “definitely not planning on getting a COVID vaccine.
The results will shock many.
“More surprising is the breakdown in vaccine hesitancy by level of education,” reports UnHerd.
“It finds that the association between hesitancy and education level follows a U-shaped curve with the highest hesitancy among those least and most educated. People with a master’s degree had the least hesitancy, and the highest hesitancy was among those holding a PhD.”
In addition, while the lowest educated saw the largest drop in vaccine hesitancy for the first five months of 2021, those with PhD’s were the most likely to not change their minds.

The study also reveals that the most common concern for those who are hesitant to take the vaccine is potential side-effects, with a lack of trust in government close behind in second.
[ZH: There is also a notable vaccine hesitancy across race and age cohorts]

The results of the investigation completely debunk the notion, amplified by media narratives, that only “dumb” people are vaccine hesitant.

Turning Flu Cases into COVID Through Manipulation—Easy as Pie

Since 1988, I’ve been pointing out that relabeling and repackaging disease is standard operating procedure in the field of “pandemic medicine.”
And now we have this, from FOX News (7/25/21): “But while cases of COVID-19 soared nationwide, hospitalizations and deaths caused by influenza dropped.”
“According to data released by the CDC earlier this month, influenza mortality rates were significantly lower throughout 2020 than previous years.”
“There were 646 deaths relating to the flu among adults reported in 2020, whereas in 2019 the CDC estimated that between 24,000 and 62,000 people died from influenza-related illnesses.”
You might want to read those numbers again. The drop in flu deaths was miraculous. Perhaps the Vatican has a clue.
Rochester Regional Health has issued a flu report covering the same time periods:
“As of the most recent updates from the CDC, the 2021 flu season impacted a much lower number of people than usual in all major regions of the United States.”
“Here are a few numbers to sum up the 2020/2021 flu season, running from October 1, 2020 to April 1, 2021…646 deaths were attributed to the flu.”
“The final data on [the prior] flu season 2019/2020 was released by the CDC in April as COVID-19 continued to spread throughout the United States. Between October 1, 2019 and April 4, 2020, the flu resulted in: 24,000 to 62,000 deaths.”

Suddenly, cough, chills, fever, fatigue, congestion, shortness of breath—which have been called flu, or just infection, or other names—are COVID. That’s the big switcheroo.
Taking it even further—as I’ve reported in several articles—the three major clinical trials of RNA COVID vaccines were designed to prove nothing more than this: the vaccine could protect against cough, chills, and fever. You could call it a mild-flu vaccine.
Next step: provide a diagnostic test for “the virus” that would automatically spit out false-positives like water from a firehouse. That’s the PCR. I’ve taken the PCR apart six ways from Sunday and exposed it as a fraud.
With the PCR in hand, the switcheroo is deepened. That list of familiar illness symptoms—taken together with the test—paints the picture of millions of cases of a “new plague.”

Iowa tossing 1000s of expiring COVID shots: ‘We literally can’t give it away’

Iowa has started tossing out tens of thousands of expiring COVID vaccine doses as demand for the shots continues to sag.
The state has discarded 81,186 doses of the vaccine so far, said Sarah Ekstrand, spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Public Health. That includes doses that expired, plus some that were wasted for other reasons, such as when a multiple-dose vial was opened and couldn’t be used up quickly enough.
Ekstrand said Monday that federal officials said states could not return unused vaccines to the manufacturers or donate them to other states or countries. “We have exhausted all options prior to vaccine expiring,” she said in an email to the Des Moines Register.
The department warned last month that the state might have to discard about 217,000 doses of vaccine by the end of August unless demand picked up. Ekstrand said Monday that about 30,000 of those doses are Johnson & Johnson shots, whose expiration dates have been bumped back to mid-September by federal regulators.
Nationwide, millions of doses are at risk of expiring.

Coming soon: Pfizermectin — a totally new, safe and effective approach to COVID-19
Whoa! Pfizer is actually marketing the concept of early treatment in combination with vaccines as a way to defeat the pandemic? Say it aint so and sign me up for that strategy! (methinks we might quibble over the choice of oral anti-viral though) https://t.co/8usIJoKSx0

Marines Rebuke Defense Secretary: “No Mandatory Vaccinations for My Marines.”

Marine Corps General David H. Berger on Monday rebuked Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s edict requiring all Armed Forces personnel to submit to Covid-19 vaccinations under threat of court martial or discharge, said a source in Gen. Berger’s office who overheard a heated conversation between them.
Gen. Berger telephoned the defense secretary minutes after he said in a press conference that the Covid-19 vaccination is needed to maintain military readiness and that he would enforce the mandatary vaccination policy regardless of FDA approval status.
“There will be no mandatory vaccinations for my Marines,” Gen. Berger said.
In a transcript of the call reviewed by Real Raw News, Gen. Berger lambasted Austin and branded him a traitor.
“Under no circumstances will Marines be compelled to take a potentially hazardous vaccination that the FDA won’t even fully endorse,” Gen. Berger told Austin. “You are a coward and a traitor, manipulated by people pushing bad policy on the men and women who provide security to our nation. Neither you nor your puppet president has authority to enforce such a policy.”
[…]
Gen. Berger said it was unfair to compare established vaccinations with a product that was rushed to market with little concern for side effects. He called the CDC and Dr. Fauci corrupt, and he asked Austin why the puppet administration hid from the public an NIH report linking the vaccination to thousands of fatalities.
“If someone dies, you say it was Covid-19. There’s a refusal to admit the vaccination carries side effects that can include death in certain individuals.”
[…]
Gen. Berger said he had the support of other Joint Chiefs of Staff and would implore them to ignore unlawful orders coming from the illegitimate administration.
“If a soldier wants the vaccination, fine. If not, he’s not rolling up his sleeve. If you try to forcibly vaccinate even one of my Marines, you better come armed,” Gen. Berger said, and hung up the phone.
In a statement Monday afternoon, Biden said he strongly supports Austin’s message and that he is “eager to see” the Covid-19 vaccination added to the battery of vaccinations soldiers receive upon joining the military.

Ihumatao: Winning Back Stolen Maori Land
Ake, Ake, Ake: The Story of Ihumātao
Directed by Whatanui Flavell
Film Review
This three part documentary series describes a successful land occupation that successfully blocked (in 2020) the conversion of illegally confiscated Māori land into a private housing development. All three episodes can be viewed free at the Māori TV website.
Part 1 describes the history of Ihumātao from its first settlement by Māori 1,000 years ago. Owing to its volcanic soil, it became rich agricultural land, providing food for iwi throughout the North Island .
Organizers of the recent occupation describe the brutal 1863 eviction of their great grandparents from 11,000 acres by British troops to be sold to European settlers. Of the 11,000 acres, only 38 hectares remains undeveloped. Prior to 2015, it was publicly owned (by Auckland Council).
In 2015, local iwi began passively occupying the land when they learned that Auckland Council had declared it a Special Housing Area (SHA) status without public notification. The 2013 SHA law (later repealed) allowed regional authorities to release rural land for development without going through the formal consent process.
Auckland Council subsequently sold the land to Fletcher Building after approving their proposal to build 520 houses.
For the first four years, occupiers pursued all legal avenues to stop the housing development and get their land returned. This included filing a claim under urgency with the Waitangi Tribunal;* filing petitions with Auckland Council, Mayor Phil Goff and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern; and requesting the Māori Select Affairs Committee to intercede with the prime minister.

Part 2 begins when the police present the occupiers with an eviction notice in early 2019. Together with a large contingent of European supporters, they begin planning and training for a nonviolent occupation of the land.
On July 23, 2019, 100 cops show up to execute the eviction order, and hundreds of supporters from all over New Zealand arrive to support local iwi. While the adults focus on preventing police from closing the public road, children race through the adjacent paddocks adjacent to plant Tino Rangatiratanga flags atop the volcanic plateau central to the disputed land. Adult protestors respond by spilling out into the paddocks and pitching tents.

Part 3 describes how thousands of supporters continue to arrive from around the country, as well as sending blankets, warm clothes, firewood, food and money for the continuing occupation.
The Māori king visits the occupation in mid-2020 and agrees to mediate between iwi on different sides of the issue. After winning his support for their demands, they request that the government buy the land back from Fletcher’s and invite the prime minister to visit.
Although she declines the invitation, she agrees to stop the housing development from proceeding without formal negotiations to resolve the issue.
In December 2020, two months after the parliamentary election, the government agrees to buy Ihumātao from Fletchers and to establsh a Ropu Whakahaere to decide the future of Ihumātao. The Ropu will consist of a majority of Māori members from affected iwi, as well as Auckland Council and government representatives.
Although the occupiers have carried out extensive habitat restoration during the five-year occupation, the Ropu is given a mandate to “consider” housing.

*The Waitangi Tribunal is a New Zealand permanent commission of inquiry established under the 1975 Treaty of Waitangi Act. It’s charged with investigating and making recommendations on claims brought by Māori regarding confiscated land.
The series can be viewed free on the Māori TV website for the next few weeks.

“They Can’t Arrest All of Us”: Rand Paul Makes Rallying Cry For New Potential Lockdowns in Viral Rant | Trending Politics
“I think the tide is turning as more and more people are willing to stand up. I see stories from across the country of parents standing up to the unions and school boards,”

“It’s time for us to resist,” U.S. Senator Ron Paul asserted to his fellow Americans.
“They can’t arrest all of us. They can’t keep all of your kids home from school. They can’t keep every government building closed – although I’ve got a long list of ones they might keep closed or might ought to keep closed,” Paul said. “We don’t have to accept the mandates, lockdowns, and harmful policies of the petty tyrants and bureaucrats. We can simply say no, not again.”
“Nancy Pelosi — you will not arrest or stop me or anyone on my staff from doing our jobs. We have either had COVID, had the vaccine, or been offered the vaccine,” Paul added. “We will make our own health choices. We will not show you a passport, we will not wear a mask, we will not be forced into random screenings and testings so you can…
