This is a quick (but important) Public Service Announcement about all of the recent articles (like this & this) claiming that Clinton leads in California — pay no attention to them! They are all based off of the same survey from an organization called “SurveyUSA.” I’m not going to mince my words — this survey is completely bogus and I will show you why.
Why the New Survey is a Crappy Survey
Okay, first off: what does the survey say?
SurveyUSA claims that, among 802 people who they believe are “likely to vote in the democratic primary,” 57% say that they will vote for Hillary clinton, compared to only 39% who say they will vote for Bernie Sanders — but wait! Veterans Today now has two confirmed sources that an American CIA agent was captured this week near Mount Simeon, outside Aleppo. The American was part of a group commanding an operations room Jabat al Nusra, al Qaeda’s “franchise” in Syria. The CIA has denied the claim, but it has already floated an offer through 3rd party sources to buy their man back.

Film Review
Make America Hate Again, a documentary about Donald Trump’s right wing populism, likens his strong appeal for blue collar white men to that of Adolph Hitler. The film specifically examines the narcissistic personality disorder – the profound grandiosity, entitlement and absence of empathy – shared by both men. The filmmakers find it no accident that Trump enjoys the support of modern day white power supremacists and neo-Nazi fascists who idolize Hitler.
They also examine the appeal of racial scapegoating for white men struggling with profound fear and inadequacy in economically precarious times. As Hitler fomented irrational hatred of Jews to propel his rise to power, Trump foments irrational hatred of Muslims and #Blacklivesmatter activists.
The documentary includes great video footage of rabid Trump supporter Alex Jones foaming at the mouth, as well as audio footage of Michael Parenti lambasting mainstream politicians (and media) for concealing the link between capitalism and fascism.
In my view, the film’s major weakness is its failure to expand on this link. It makes brief mention of the German industrialists who financed Hitler’s rise to power. However it fails to mention the key role played by Wall Street corporations in the rise of Nazi Germany.
I was also disappointed by the documentary’s failure to examine the financial interests promoting Trump’s meteoric rise in the corporate media and public opinion polls.

It really wasn’t that exciting but, if you’d like to know what it was like, just imagine yourself in an almost impossibly boring labyrinth of PDFs & spread-sheets — then, add a bunch of patriotic, 90’s-era stars-and-stripes graphics. That’s pretty much it.

Nestlé Gets to Control a Town’s Entire Groundwater for up to 45 Years*
Tea Party Republican Governor Paul LePage of Maine helped Nestlé secure a contract that gives Poland Springs, a Nestlé subsidiary, permission to take the small town of Fryeburg’s groundwater for the next 25 years for their own profit.
The deal could stretch to 45 years due to built-in extensions.
Today that deal was upheld by Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court, essentially cutting off activists’ last attempts to scuttle the deal.
There has never been a contract that ties up local water resources for such a long period of time in American history. Water activists worry that this could set a precedent for future corporate attempts to take water from rural towns for extended periods of time.
Nickie Sekera, the co-founder of Community Water Justice, talked to U.S. Uncut today about the water deal.

The People Against TPP

Today, Flush the TPP organized a rally and street theater condemning the United States International Trade Commission’s (USITC) report on the TPP. Just as the USITC reported with NAFTA and the Free Trade Agreement with Korea, their analysis of what TPP will do to and for our country is grossly off point.
To counter their continued corporatized findings, activists acted out an example of how the TPP will affect climate change and environmental legislation. Using ISDS, corporate trade tribunals, corporations would be able to place their profit above people and planet, holding their bottom line sovereign over public health, safety, justice, peace and human rights.
Flush the TPP co-founder Margaret Flowers also introduced the People’s Economic Impact Statement for the TPP: a non-corporatized look at what the TPP will do to and for our country. Further reporting on that will come in next week’s episode of Act Out! and you can also find it on theFlush the TPP website.

Film Review
This Al Jazeera documentary is about the melting of the Arctic ice cap and its effect on international trade. Shipping through the Northwest Passage, which is still limited to summer months, first began in 2008. By 2025, the Arctic is predicted to be ice free every summer. China, the world’s largest exporter, has a particular interest in the Northwest Passage, as it reduces shipping times to Europe and North America by 30%.
Canada, claiming the Northwest Passage as territorial waters, is challenging China’s right to access this trade route. Thus far, the US is siding with China, asserting the Arctic Ocean is an international waterway. At present Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Iceland and Canada have claims over the Arctic Circle under the UN Law of the Sea treaty. Owing to the US refusal to ratify the treaty, Alaska (eg the US) has no claim to this waterway.
In addition to the Northwest Passage, there is a second passage north of Russia and Norway called the Northern Sea Route. The Polar Code goes into effect next year, with mandatory structural requirements for ships traversing the Arctic Circle.

American hedge fund billionaire George Soros is back in the headlines for two things: his most recent funding projects and new revelations that the shadowy political donor has been hiding his fortune from US regulators with Mossack Fonseca, the firm behind the Panama Papers leak. Soros has a total of three offshore companies through Mossack Fonseca alone (certainly more to be revealed in the future).

As we know from earlier revelations, Soros financed a large group of journalists (about 400 in total), who were hired to dig up offshore dirt on Vladimir Putin and various other heads of state and celebrities, using the Panama papers leak.
