It’s like having a writer con that lasts for weeks!

I just farewelled the ever delightful Angela Slatter (and her also lovely other half) from a long lunch at our place. This was the culminating event of what I think I shall dub TasWriterCon, as in the past week I’ve also been gifted by extended visits with Tansy and family, Helen and family and Dirk and family, which means not only have I got to spend time with awesome brilliant people, but my creative brain has been completely overstimulated and is now bursting with must-do things! I’m very...

What have we been doing?

ChristmasLunchAn AWFUL lot of socialising! We decided to host Christmas here in our lovely Launceston house, for Tassie friends who would otherwise be on their own – most of our friends here are also not originally FROM here, so we ended up with a good batch on Christmas Day, which was just lovely. I made one meat and one vegetarian lasagne, and with the marvellous contributions by visitors, we merrily ate all day while the kids enjoyed the pool, trampoline and new Chrissy pressies. We put the computers aw...

Tehani’s top books of 2013

Read

With the disclaimer that I can’t include any of the Australian YA or children’s books I have read as part of the CBCA Book of the Year Awards judging in this list (which means several hundred books are NOT considered, and also that I didn’t read nearly as many OTHER books as I usually would!), AND that I’ve not included FableCroft publications here, which of COURSE are five star (!), here are my favourite books of 2013! (in bas...

New Who in Conversation: A Christmas Carol (2010 Christmas special)

David is coming to New Who for the first time, having loved Classic Who as a kid. Tehani is a recent convert, and ploughed through Seasons 1 to 7 (so far) in just a few weeks after becoming addicted thanks to Matt Smith – she’s rewatching to keep up with David! Tansy is the expert in the team, with a history in Doctor Who fandom that goes WAY back, and a passion for Doctor Who that inspires us all.

We are working our way through New Who, using season openers and closers, and Hugo shortlisted e...

Still here!

I’m just going to list the things I’ve been doing instead of blogging, because that might explain why I haven’t been blogging…

Marking university assignments and sessional tutoring (two different universities).
Writing a subject for Charles Sturt University’s new Masters degree.
Reading approximately 8 million books on a deadline for CBCA Book of the Year Awards.
Wrangling Aurealis Awards judging.
Publishing several books since October.
Edited final copy of WA School Library Association journal for...

Doctor Who giveaway!

photo (20)To celebrate the airing of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special (just MINUTES away!), I’m giving away this very excellent “Conventional fan wisdom can bite me” mug. Inspired by something David wrote in one of our conversational reviews, I couldn’t resist turning it into mugs and t-shirts, and now you* can have one** too! All you have to do is leave a comment here, summing up “The Day of the Doctor” in a NON-SPOILERY way! Why non-spoilery? Because David hasn’t caught up yet and he won’t be...

Visual catch up, in lieu of actual content…

We’ve had a fairly busy few weeks round these parts. Two kids’ birthdays, school performance, fishing, parties with friends, job applications, lots of work stuff. But here are some photos from the goings on, in lieu of an actual decent catch up post!BigBoy BirthdayBoy DevilDan WesselyKids Gwynne2 Gwynne3 MissMuffettandCo MissMuffettandGoldilocksphoto 17 IMG_3326 Screen Shot 2013-11-17 at 8.04.07 AM
