I don't know about you...

[image error] ....but I am SO buying this as soon as it's released! I wonder how mad the husband would be if I hung it up in my office (that is also our bedroom)?

DO NOT ENTER THIS CONTEST

Because I want to win. HARDCORE.

I want to win so much that if YOU win instead of ME, I will track you down and beat you up and take your prizes.

OK, I might not do that.

OR MAYBE I WILL.

What's so cool that I'm contemplated assault and robbery? Oh, just a copy of Stephanie Perkin's ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS and Kiersten White's PARANORMALCY.

I'm going to go sit in my envy corner now.

Bookanista Feature: Robin McKinley's PEGASUS

Today is the first launch day of the new book review bloggers - The Bookanistas: Books are the New Black. We are a group of writers - in various stages of the publishing process – who have decided to band together and review the special books of our peers. We – as fellow writers – have decided to only post positive reviews, therefore, only reviewing the book we LOVE. No negative reviews here!

The Bookanistas give nothing but love!

Starting today, we will post reviews every Thursday that co...

I think I finally get it...

I watched a movie yesterday.

It wasn't that good.

But while I was watching it, I came up with a simple answer to a long-standing writing question: what is Voice, and why is it so important? So I guess the $6 matinee ticket was worth it.

Here's the wisdom I came up with:

1. There are two parts to any good book: a) the story and b) the writing.

2. The story = setting, plot, characters.

3. The writing = how you present the setting, plot, characters.

In other words, the writing, the way ...

Creation

Dude.

Dude.

It is exhausting to chaperon a gaggle of high school students through Europe for nearly two weeks. Exhausting. Like deep in the marrow of my bones exhausting.

But I loved every minute. First, this trip gave me a chance to meet my French editor (hi Xavier!!) who is amazing and just the kind of person I love working with and so enthusiastic and wonderful that I felt like I died and went to heaven when I was in his office surrounded by my favorite books (in French) and knowing my...

Where in the World is Beth?

For the next two weeks, there's a good chance I'm at one of these places:

I'll be gone until the fourth of July (actually, I'll be back before then, but I'm giving myself some jet lag time to recover)! And when I come back, I'll have lots of European adventures to relate, as well as an EPIC contest that I KNOW you peeps will love (hint below), and I promise to visit every single one of y'alls blogs by the end of July. I've dropped the ball on that lately, and HATE it, so you can expect ...

Rocking Clues

Okay, first? You rock. YOU RAWK. I was fairly scared to post the series last week--it was a bit of a departure from the normal highjinks around here, and all of your many comments really made me happy to post the series.  I will be responding to you all, slowly but surely.

Second? You should go to the League. We're starting an awesome Scavenger Hunt--read the clues to figure out the title of a book, and you win the ENTIRE SERIES of books as a prize! And for my faithful blog readers, I'm giv...

5: The End and the Beginning

The Day Before Yesterday

The day before yesterday was your last day of school with students.

There were tears.

There were smiles.

You are swamped with essays to grade for the final exam, and you have to get grades in, and you have to wrap the whole year up. But you savor it.

These are your last days as a teacher.

Today

Today is the very last day employed at a school.

The students are gone. Soon you will be, too.

You took pictures of your classroom before you ripped the posters off ...
