Deep within south Georgia, in the town of Moultrie, exists a tombstone to William Duggan, Sr., 1899-1950.
Duggan had purchased a circus but passed away soon after the pruchase.
In the form of a life sized elephant, this tombstone depicts Nancy, a baby elephant owned by Duggan. It was erected to the memory of his father by Duggan’s son.

Piero Tosi, who was entrusted to the military uniforms, the bourgeois and farmer costumes, said this veil was purchased in a haberdashery shop in Verona. “If it had been in chiffon, it wouldn’t have hung properly; this one, on the other hand, fluttered in the air, keeping pace with every step.”

The costumes were designed by Marcel Escoffier.

After contributing significantly to the German victories at Smolensk and Kiev, the Hedgehog Legion was later transferred to the Battle of Stalingrad, where it was eventually worn down and destroyed, vanishing into the pages of history. Yet another footnote in the long, winding history of small animals carrying large guns.
