One of the best parts of the job
Interacting with readers. Yup! And it wasn't something remotely on my radar before my first novel,THOUSAND
, hit store shelves.
I still have my very first fan letter. (Confession time, yes, I've kept all of them. Every email from a reader, every card, note, and remembrance.) That first, though, was a revelation. Not only were people reading my stuff -- they wanted to talk to me about it! Whoa. Who saw that coming? Not I. (And yes, this was back when social media meant hanging out together at a convention.)
My latest reader-letter came from Russia, where a delightful lady has been learning English in order to reread her favourite book, THOUSAND!, in the original wording. How marvellous is that?!
My favourite thing, as you might guess, is writing back. With treats. It's been a while since I've had anything to send, but now that the first set of gorgeous bookmarks are ready for A TURN OF LIGHT
