It is unwise to try to carry next week’s burdens today
[image error] [image error]
by J.C. Pittman, 1917
Do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
There is no harm in looking ahead, but it is unwise to try to carry next week’s burdens today. There is nothing wrong in looking ahead, but needless worry in regard to the future, is not only useless but injurious — besides evidencing lack of implicit trust in our heavenly Father’s care for His redeemed people. worry looks tremblingly ahead, but never accelerates, and always hinders the speed in life’s race.
Yet many drag through life weighted with all sorts of needless cares and are never in their element unless looking for still more trouble. They are always watching for clouds and are never content to bask in the sunshine.
Paul has a word concerning the sin of worrying. Do not worry about anything. The reason is because we are in God’s world, and He is able and willing to take care of all His people. We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Never bear more than one kind of trouble at once.
Some people bear all three kinds of trouble at once:
all they have had,
all they have now, and
all they expect to have.
John Wesley said: I dare not worry — any more than I dare curse and swear!
Ancient History from Primary Sources on sale this week
Ancient History from Primary Sources: A Literary Timeline by Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn is on sale this week. Normally priced at $29, this week you can buy it for $16. Plus, with your order you will receive (upon request) Ancient Literature — Significant Excerpts From the Books of Classical Authors Which You Can Use to Supplement Your History Curriculum — all six ebooks (normally priced at $15).
Ancient History from Primary Sources is a reference book which guides the student on a selective timeline tour through ancient history, outlining the major events and personalities, and noting the primary literary sources from which these things are known.
Time-wise, this book covers the period from the creation of the world to the fall of Rome in A.D. 476. Space-wise, this book covers the civilizations of the near east and west.
Each event or person in history is accompanied by suggested readings from various ancient sources.
This book will lead you by the hand through the maze of ancient literature and help you find what is appropriate for you and your children to read as you pursue your study of ancient history.
Generally speaking, the classical literature we cite is suitable for students ages twelve and up. Some of the literature is suitable for younger students (Aesop, some of Xenophon, Plutarch, Quintus Curtius, Gellius, Josephus and several others).
Review of Ancient History from Primary Sources by Cathy Duffy
“Long-time advocates of classical education, the Bluedorns have come up with a way to make classical education less costly in terms of both time and money….”

Who is your favorite voice actor for audio books?
My favorite all-time audiobook narrator is Peter Addenbrooke Thomas (June 28, 1924 – April 30, 2016). His unique voice is considered the most listened-to broadcast voice in American television and radio history.
His father was a Presbyterian minister from Wales and his mother an English schoolteacher. During his childhood, they stressed the importance of reading, education, and memorization, including Bible passages, and taught him how to project, enunciate, and communicate. His father encouraged him to paint mental pictures of words while speaking. He often read aloud to his family, which perfected his technique.

If you’re looking for a book to teach your child elocution (articulation, inflection, accent & emphasis, reading verse, voice, and gesture), this book is the best. I used it with my children.

Sometimes we need to see ourselves from the outside looking in — free copy of Archer and Zowie
A theme that keeps coming up in Archer and Zowie is metamorphosis — something changing from one thing to something different.
There are many things in Archer and Zowie that undergo a metamorphosis — from the microwave, to the penguin aliens, to Zowie herself.
When I was writing Archer and Zowie, an idea that I kept thinking about is that we never really see ourselves. We can see ourselves in a mirror, or see parts of our bodies, or even hear other people’s opinions of us, but we can never really see ourselves — objectively and truly.
Sometimes we need to see ourselves from the outside looking in, and like who that is. When that happens — we undergo metamorphosis.
Archer and Zowie is free to download this week on Amazon Kindle. January 21st through the 25th.
