Well, wow. Yep, that's an Anthony Award.

I'm speechless (almost literally - because I talked so much for four days straight) - but still on Cloud 9 about winning the Anthony Award for best first novel at at Bouchercon in Cleveland.

Come see me in Nashville (Dan'l Woodrell too)

From Humanities Tennessee website

I'll be appearing at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville with Daniel Friedman (Don't Ever Get Old) on Oct. 12 - this event is free of charge.

I remember going to this festival more than a dozen years ago, when I'd just started novel writing and thinking, One day I'm going to be on the other side of the table.

And now I will be.

Friday, Oct. 12, 3:30 pm

(Whatever you do, don't miss Daniel Woodrell at 2:30 pm on Oct. 13 - yeah, that's his blurb...

Your last day to vote for these awards ...

This is just about your last day to vote for the Macavity and the Barry awards, and there is a heckuva list for both - which makes for some great reading recommendations. Yes, I'm up for both for best first novel, as is my friend Taylor Stevens and some fellow from the UK, SJ Somebody. :-)

The Macavity is sponsored by Mystery Readers International, which produces the Mystery Journal, and you should have received a ballot if you subscribe. The Barry awards are astoundingly democratic in the...

Publishing changes, and changes, and changes...

My first novel sold in July 2009. Since that date, I lost my publisher (the imprint was dissolved), my editor (left), his assistant (working for someone else), the paperback division head (left), the wonderful person in marketing who helped me enormously (left).

And now the store where I launched - where one of the owners read the advance copy overnight and emailed me the next day to ask me to launch there - is closing. On September 20, Partners & Crime in New York City will cease to e...

WELCOME TO THE QUINN CUMMINGS BLOG BOOK TOUR 2012!!!!

OK, I stole that title from my friend Quinn. Her fabulous new book, THE YEAR OF LEARNING DANGEROUSLY: ADVENTURES IN HOME SCHOOLING, comes out next week, and she's launching a book blog tour today, for which she graciously selected me as her first host(ess).

Her book has gotten some rocketing good reviews, and an article in Time and in the Wall Street Journal .

And, well, Quinn rocks. So go check out her book, her blog, or her other book.

Here's the question I asked (me being me, I asked...

I love this crazy photo of me ...

This is from Bouchercon San Francisco - of course in the lobby after hours, because that's what you do at Bouchercons, hang out in the lobby with other writers. Apparently I like to do calisthenics or stretching exercises after a long day of Boucherconning.

Photo by Scott Phillips. That's Scott Montgomery on the left, or someone masquerading as him. I'm wearing my vest and cords, the grown-up version of "I really want to be a cowboy."

What? You haven't pre-ordered my pal Simon's new book yet?

The Key , by Simon Toyne. You know you want this book. You can preorder it now, at your favorite bookstore or at that behemoth, Amazon, if you live in the wilderness.

And if you haven't read the predecessor, Sanctus , you still have time.

This is Simon, by the way. He's cool.

And yes, there is a free photo booth at Bouchercon.  Yet another reason to attend.

(And to see me, and Simon, and a bunch of other cool writers.)
