Random thoughts about James Bond, one of my favorite fascist superheroes
www.GlynLowe.com, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia CommonsWhen I’m exercising, I like watching movies that are mildly entertaining, but which I can stop at any point and happily resume in a day or three. The Bond movies worked well, though I got tired of “quips” that were supposed to be double entendres and aren’t even an entendre and a quarter.1: Four reasons James Bond was the first big-budget movie

What would Wonder Woman wear? Amazonomachy has the answer
Just read (and recommend) The Amazon Women: Is There Any Truth Behind the Myth?. Its mention of Amazonomachy, “the portrayal of the mythical battle between the Ancient Greeks and the Amazons” in Greek art, made me think of the long argument over Wonder Woman’s skimpy costume. I can’t see DC going with something like this:(Though people who are concerned with butt shots and twisted torsos for

Who Invented Superheroes? A Woman, Two Jews, or a “Saucy” Pulp Writer?
This tweet was popular in 2018:I understand the desire to claim a woman created superheroes— I like the argument that Mary Shelley invented science fiction — but Bob Chipman is confused about what makes a superhero and, most embarrassingly for a movie critic, he forgot that the Scarlet Pimpernel did not have a distinctive costume.I like this argument:“…like the pulps before them, comic books and

On the public domain Superman & a free Fleischer Superman for Poser and Daz M4
Max Fleischer made Superman fly — literally. Before his Superman cartoons, Superman was limited to running faster than a speeding locomotive and leaping tall buildings with a single bound. But animating a jumping character requires a lot of drawings, so Fleischer chose to make him fly, and the comic books imitated him. After the cartoon rights reverted, DC Comics failed to renew the copyright. Handy Examples of Famous Antiracists Saying All White People are Racist
The claim is in the title of a book by the father of Critical Race Theory, Derrick Bell: Faces At The Bottom Of The Well: The Permanence Of Racism. George H. Taylor provides relevant quotes:[R]acism in America is not a curable aberration … .[T]he sources of racial problems … grow more intractable with time.Black people will never gain full equality in this country.[R]acism is a permanent

My Poor Man's Fish Stew
A friend makes a great cioppino (aka shellfish stew Provencale), but the ingredients are pricey and the process is time-consuming. I took her recipe and created the quick and easy version, which is still pretty great. Because it's a poor man's dish, all of the ingredients are suggestions, not requirements. I like strong flavors, so where I say a dash or splash, I'd use a heavy hand.Ingredients:2

Examples of black identitarians mocking poor white people
On Facebook, I said,
Many identitarians feel entitled to speak disdainfully of poor white people because, in their ideology, poor whites have white privilege and therefore must be responsible for their poverty.
I can't remember when I first noticed how common "classism" is among well-off identitarians—maybe in the '90s. But in the FB discussion, Victor Jones provided a couple of examples.

Today's word that socialists use that bugs me as too damn jargony: praxis. But I do understand why they like it. It's pretty. It sounds like a girl's name.

"Bustamante's analysis places Warren's Native American ancestor between six and 10 generations ago, with the report estimating eight generations."
If we are generous and assume six generations, her story
