What Do We Know?
I wait for the answer that every mother wants to know: How does this happen to a little curly-haired boy with soulful eyes and big ears that did all the right things? What did his mother miss?

Searching For My Son The Day Of The Boston Marathon Bombing
Where is he?
"Where are you?" I texted my son at 3 p.m., right after I heard that bombs exploded at the finish line of The Boston Marathon. There were injuries, perhaps deaths, at that time unconfirmed, numbers of victims unclear. Confusion. Chaos. I made an instantaneous inventory, literally in the blink of an eye, I saw each child clearly: daughter one, at work in Worcester, daughter two working at home and her babies with her, daughter three at work in Marlborough -- all far from the horror...

Grandparents having to step in to raise their grandchildren is an issue that has become a sweeping epidemic. Caught in a tsunami of parents who are alcoholics, drug addicted, violent, incarcerated, too young, too irresponsible, to ill, abusive, crushed by the recession, made homeless, or just plain overwhelmed, are millions of children at risk. Children in need of parenting. Grandparents are rescuing grandchildren in droves.
I should begin by telling you my story. Here, in excerpts from my bo...

Raising Our Children's Children
Currently working on updating and revising my book for a re-release later this year with a new title, Room In The Heart, and a new life. I have been listening and collecting stories from grandparents - primarily grandmothers - raising their grandchildren for the past twenty years. The stories, the circumstances and tragedies, the hopes and triumphs are still the same. My hope is and has always been, that this book will raise awareness of this ever rising epidemic and provide help and assistance to grandparents struggling to heal their grandchildren and their families. Its a book, at its core, about families. It was written not strictly for grandparents raising grandchildren, but for anyone with children, for women with a family. Afterall, the issue of grandparents raising grandchildren is a women's issue first and foremost.
