Prepare or Die

I awoke this morning from an unusually disturbing dream.  In my subconscious mind, I was on the 30th floor of a downtown Kansas City apartment tower when the lights went out. All of them. Not only inside the building, but as far as I could see across the urban landscape. Nary a light to be found.

The suddenness of it all struck me.  In an instant, darkness consumed my world, on the darkest week of the year, no less.  Worse yet, without power, I was unable to communicate with anyone, including th...

Christmas: A Sign of Contradiction and Hope, Against the Demons of This World

As Christmas 2023 rapidly approaches I am put in mind of a short poem, “The Broad Winter,” written some seventy years ago by English poet, Jack Clemo. It may seem a bit odd to cite this work during the Christmas Season, but I will explain.

Here it is:

“The darkness comes as you foretold.
You hear the fretful moan,
The alien winds that rave
As bitterly the grey truth breaks
On disillusioned Church and frantic world.
You see what form the judgment takes,
What harvest faithless generations reap:
Th...

What Zelenskyy Should Have Said

Former actor and comedian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine was back in Washington last week seeking more American tax dollars to aid in his “defense” of the Russian “invasion” of Ukraine. This is his third visit since the beginning of the war in Ukraine early in 2022. But he is going about it the wrong way.

Before meeting with U.S. senators and with President Biden in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Zelenskyy made his case for additional military aid for Ukraine in a speech at the National D...

A Rigged System From Top to Bottom

Just the other day, New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a remarkable statement. “Before this trial even began, the judge ruled in our favor and found that Donald Trump did engage in years of significant financial fraud,” James boasted publicly. This is associated with just one of Donald Trump’s absurd legal cases.

Let what this laughable, biased prosecutor said sink in for a moment. She admitted that the honorable judge had “ruled in our favor” before the case had gone to trial. Even ...

Breaking Down Fiducia Supplicans

Yesterday the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith under Cardinal Víctor Fernández, and with the approval of Pope Francis, released Fiducia Supplicans, which gives explicit approval for priests to impart a blessing on same-sex couples and couples in “irregular situations.” This declaration by the Vatican is another in a long line of shocking but sadly not surprising actions taken during the pontificate of Francis.

As commonly happens with such controversial documents, many Catholics are tryin...

Suez Canal & Red Sea Shipping Route Shut Down

Deutsche Welle:  “After a rise in attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis, the world’s largest shipping firms are staying away from the Red Sea and Suez Canal. Could the world see a repeat of the post-COVID supply chain crisis?”

DoD Lloyd Austin has declared that a new Navy shield of destroyers are heading to the Red Sea to take out Yemen’s Houthi’s while prodding a war with Iran.  The only Middle East country to join in this junta with EU countries, US, and Canada is – Bahrain.  A number of western ...

The Solution to Everything

Well, almost. In memory of Charlie Munger, who passed away on November 28, 2023, this piece will point out that many, if not all, undesirable behaviors can be improved by carefully aligning incentives, particularly financial incentives, with desired outcomes. Let’s start with alleged “systemic racism” in police departments and a review of the documentary The Fall of Minneapolis, a movie about the rapid decline of Minneapolis since the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. As Mr. Munger stated: ...

A Star Witness of the Criminal Pandemic Response

Documentary filmmaker Patrick Henry recently shot an excellent interview with Nurse Gail McCrae, who was working in a Bay Area hospital in the years 2020-2021.

The corporate headquarters of Gilead Sciences, which produces Remdesivir, is located just south of San Francisco. As Nurse McCrae has pointed out, during the pandemic, the Bay Area had one of the most compliant populations on the planet. Though the city’s administrators do not enforce the most rudimentary public sanitation laws that prohi...

Snowman Propagandizes Citizens

From the Tom Woods Letter:

A few items for you today.

(1) Let’s begin with this snowman image from New York.

The image is accompanied by this message:

“Flu, COVID-19 and RSV are all currently spreading in NYC. Wearing a mask in public indoor spaces and crowded places can help protect you and also protect others if you’re sick. High-quality masks, such as N95s, KN95s and KF94s provide the best protection.”

There is no evidence for this. I know you know this already. The Cochrane Review demolishe...
