Europe: Thunder on the Right

European voters revolted against their political leaders in last week’s continent-wide parliamentary votes.  The result was a bombshell:  right-wing parties made huge gains, shaking the existing order to its foundations and sending warning signals to voters in the US, Britain, and Canada.

France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, called a surprise election in the hope of undoing the lurch to the right.  Right-wing parties in Austria, Belgium, Holland, and Germany scored smashing victories over conven...

Boston Celtics’ Catholic Coach Leaves Reporters Speechless With Simple Answer About Christian Faith

The head coach of the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics again left reporters speechless after his team took a 2-0 lead against the Dallas Mavericks in this year’s NBA Finals.

Joe Mazzulla, 35, has been at the helm of the historic Celtics franchise since mid-season last year. He previously served as an assistant then took the head coach role on an interim basis. In 2023, he was one of three finalists for the prestigious Coach of the Year award.

Mazzulla’s squad bested the Maveric...

Julian Assange Is Being Murdered by a Fake Case that Has No Basis in Law

In the 1970s Pentagon Official Daniel Ellsberg leaked the Pentagon Papers. The New York Times published them. It helped to end the war by showing Americans how they had been deceived by Washington. Washington tried to prosecute Ellsberg and the New York Times, but the presiding judge declared a mistrial citing government misconduct so severe as to “offend the sense of justice.”

Four decades later documents were leaked by Manning to Assange at Wikileaks who made them available to the New York Tim...

Rejecting the Status Quo Is the Only Way To Survive

Can men give birth?  Do cow farts cause tornadoes?  Must “disinformation” tsars censor words to protect free speech?  Should Democrats jail opponents in order to save “democracy”?  If you listen to the propaganda press, these are some of the most important queries of our time.  It feels as if we’ve fallen down Lewis Carroll’s rabbit hole or entered the absurdist plot of a Tom Robbins or Kurt Vonnegut novel.  How can we make sense of our increasingly senseless world?

America’s dean of word wizard...

EU Parliamentary Elections: Belgian Prime Minister Resigns, Emanuel Macron Dissolves the National Assembly in France and Germany Inches Further Towards Political Crisis

The results of the European parliamentary elections are in.

As expected, they represent a repudiation of the centre-left politics that have governed Europe for the past generation. The dominant Christian Democrats of the European People’s Party (EPP), the right-leaning “soft” Eurosceptics of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) and the nationalists of Identity and Democracy (ID) all added seats. The big losers, meanwhile, were not only the liberal centrists of Renew but also – and abo...

Friends Seeking a Common Understanding: Letters on Grace, Vocations, and the Modern Church

Letter 1

Dear Sebastian,

My wife and I, both Benedictine oblates, read aloud last night your three essays on Benedictine monasticism[1] that you published in The European Conservative. Our views coincide to a very great extent. Norcia is the place in Europe I have visited the most—probably ten times by now. I attended a Benedictine high school and have worked in an academic capacity for Benedictine monasteries. I go on retreat in Gower, Missouri, with the Benedictines of Mary. We are birds of a ...

To Solve ‘Food Insecurity,’ Cut Bureaucrats

For the good

In Canada, the British Columbia government in order to increase “food security” is handing out $200,000,000 to farmers in the province. Food insecurity, which means crazy high food prices, comes to us courtesy of the sequestration of the vast amounts of oil and gas in the province and the ever increasing carbon tax, which (like a VAT in Europe), as you probably know, is levied at every single step in food production. Add the hand-over-fist borrowing in which the government has indul...

The Barber Shop

A few days ago, my 12 year-old poked his head into my office to let me know that he needed a haircut—with his ears and eyes disappearing, I concurred. That meant a trip to the local barber shop that we’ve been frequenting for years. Thomas Barber shop has been cutting Buckhead boys’ hair for decades, with stickers from almost every local school plastered on the door. I can always expect to see someone I know there; and “Tommy” the barber knows everybody.

By “everybody,” I mean every every big-wi...

Government Raid Seizes $90,000 of Healthy Food Grown by Nourish Cooperative

There is a lot of fearmongering circulating in mainstream media about the “Avian Influenza”. In parallel to the fearmongering, there has been a large increase in the number of inspections and surveillance. Creating fear would certainly help better maintain control of the food system, wouldn’t it?

On Tuesday, May 28th, our farm co-op was randomly “inspected” (raided), and over $90,000 worth of product was put under “cease and desist” by the state of Michigan, including all raw dairy. As this is ...
