Toying With the Holydays

The title of this essay comes from a 2021 Christmas movie, the kind that run in places like the Hallmark Channel. But I think it better fits the American bishops’ approach to holy days of obligation.

Regular readers know that I have criticized detachment of holy days from their historical context (e.g., Ascension Thursday becoming Ascension-next-Sunday) or the “pastoral” don’t-make-people-go-too-much-to-church-so-Saturday-and-Monday-holy days-sometimes-don’t-count rule (especially ludicrous when...

On Awakening a Sleeping Giant

In the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora! Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto famously said, after he directed the Japanese naval attack on Pearl Harbor, “I’m afraid we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve.”  While there is no evidence that Yamamoto ever actually spoke these words in real life, they remain entrenched in World War II folklore.

Fast forward to 2024 and a much different America.  If the November 5 election proved anything, it’s that America is not Martha’s V...

Nature Paper Shows the Covid ‘Vaccines’ Increased Your Risk of Getting Covid

Figure 1 of this paper has the all important graph in 1h. I will show you how devastating that plot is.

Executive summary

Any competent virologist will tell you that if you want to reduce the risk of infection of a respiratory virus, increasing the level of mucosal IgA antibodies is required. And you want to increase the receptor binding domain (RBD) antibodies especially because these antibodies prevent the virus from attaching to the entry point receptors (ACE2) on your cells.

So any vaccine ...

Elections Have Consequences – We Just Don’t Know Which

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is selecting a number of hawkish people to fill his cabinet.

There are currently a lot of hot takes what these appointees will do.

Marco Rubio, the likely Secretary of State, may want to launch a new coup in Venezuela.Michael Waltz, the potential national security advisor, is pro-Ukraine, anti-Russian and anti-China.Elise Stefanik, a Zionist, will serve as the Israel’s second ambassador to the United Nations.

If there were no limits either of these people wo...

The Cost of Owning a Home Is Soaring

The soaring costs of home ownership are changing the metrics of unaffordability in important ways.

We all know that buying a house is now unaffordable, but owning a house is increasingly unaffordable, too. Gordon Long and I have laid out the sobering explosion of the costs of homeownership, a rise that shows no signs of slowing, much less reversing.

It would be nice to attribute it all to one source or one villain, but alas, it isn’t that easy. Costs are rising across the board for many reasons,...

The Second Resistance Movement: Why the Campaign Against Trump This Time Is Different

Below is my column in The Hill on the growing calls for an organized resistance to the Trump Administration by Democratic governors and prosecutors. They may find, however, that the resistance movement this time around will be facing significant legal and political headwinds.

Here is the column:

The single most common principle of recovery programs is that the first step is to admit that you have a problem.

That first step continues to elude the politicians and pundits who unsuccessfully pushed ...

The UN, Green Fund, and NATO – Unqualified Audits = Fraud

According to the World Meteorology Organization, the world began in 1885 when temperatures first were recorded.   And based on those recordings, which have been radically altered since that time, this is representative of a disaster caused by mankind.  The global mean temperature rose by 1.5’ Celsius.  The goal is for global temperatures to only rise by 1.5’ Celsius…

In addition, UN climate experts have claimed that global greenhouse gas emissions have ‘smashed all records’.  Records began in 1...

The Art of Memorization

The primary mechanism our society uses to determine one’s eventual wealth and place in the social hierarchy is their academic performance. As such, many put forward an incredible sustained effort to succeed at each rung of the academic ladder, and in many cases, at the urging of their parents, begin that effort from a very young age. However, while a variety of justifications exist for the society adopting this convention, there are also major issues with it, such as:

•Far too many who go throug...

The Corrupt Nature of DEI

Once it is averred that inequality is wrong and the government ought to do “something” to make people more equal, tyranny is always around the corner. Equalization methods and strategies may vary, but some degree of coercion is guaranteed once it is decided to equalize human beings. The philosopher Antony Flew characterized egalitarianism as a procrustean ideal—some must be stretched to breaking point, while others must be cut down to size, in order to ensure that all are enjoying equal life opp...
