Delaying Old Age

For decades now researchers have been saying what they are learning from young children with a gene mutation that results in premature aging and a shortened life span could have application for the rest of humanity.  Don’t believe it.

Time to buy old US gold coins

News headlines declare a breakthrough in progeria, the name given to this premature aging syndrome.  Researchers claim by maintaining the length of end caps of chromosomes called telomeres they can push back against this genetic di...

The Silk Roads

The Silk Roads: A New History of the World, by Peter Frankopan.

With this post, I am going to offer a variety of dishes from Frankopan’s book; you are free to select as many or as few items as you wish from the buffet table.  Like a true smörgåsbord, even if you sample a bit of each plate, you will not leave stuffed.

The Silk Roads of the Steppes

…the steppes were much more than a Wild North, a frontier zone filled with savage people with strange customs….the nomadic lifestyle was in fact bot...

It Was Seth Rich – Not Russians

We’ve noted for many months that the DNC emails were leaked by an insider, not hacked by the Russians.

Pulitzer-prize winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh – who revealed in 1974 that the CIA was spying on Americans, who broke the story of the Mai Lai massacre in Vietnam and the Iraq prison torture scandal – said in a recent phone interview linked by WikiLeaks:

[The DC police took Seth Rich’s computer, but couldn’t get past his password.] So they call the FBI cyber unit.

The Feds g...

Dishonest Economists vs. Reality

For the most part, people share common goals. Most of us want poor people to enjoy higher standards of living, greater traffic safety, more world peace, greater racial harmony, cleaner air and water, and less crime. Despite the fact that people have common goals, we often see them grouped into contentious factions, fighting tooth and nail to promote polar opposite government policies in the name of achieving a commonly held goal. The conflict is centered around the means to achieve goals rath...

Printing Half a Quadrillion Dollars

Stock investors are rejoicing about stock markets making new highs in many countries, totally oblivious of the risks or the reasons. It seems that this is an unstoppable rally in a “new normal” market paradigm. No major increase is expected in the inflation rate or the historically low interest rates. The present rally has lasted 8 years since the 2009 low. There is virtually no fear in markets so investors see no reason why this favourable climate would not continue for another 8 years at le...

Algore’s Hyper-Energy Use

On Friday, Al Gore’s sequel to “An Inconvenient Truth” – “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” – arrives in movie theaters across the country. But there’s another inconvenient sequel worth noting and, like most sequels, this one is even worse than the original.

Gore’s hypocritical home energy use and “do as I say not as I do” lifestyle has plunged to embarrassing new depths.

In just this past year, Gore burned through enough energy to power the typical American household for more than 21 y...

Threats to Western Civilization

Review by Efrem Sepulveda

Hillaire Belloc writes a prophetic work on the major threats to Christian civilization. Although there might be disagreement with the threat Protestantism, readers will read his essays on Islam and the Modern Attack and think they were written yesterday. Without a sure foundation of the Church, men would believe in anything and the Church must recover the old teachings if it is to make an impact in the modern world today. Belloc tells us what went wrong and gives us...

Electric Car Mania

Maybe you remember Disco Fever.

Mid-70s, United States. For no apparent reason, suddenly everyone seemed to be singing in a high-pitched falsetto voice and wearing skin-tight lycra with open collared shirts displaying chest hair and gold medallions.

It was fun for awhile but got old fast.

Electric Car Fever is now upon us. Laws are being passed – the Brits being the latest – mandating the production of electric cars by outlawing the production of cars powered by internal combustion.

This will...

A Founder of the Horrendous Frankfurt School

Repressive Tolerance, by Herbert Marcuse….prompted by an email request from Stephen W. Carson which has finally moved me to action on this aspect of our current state.

Who is Herbert Marcuse?

Herbert Marcuse (German: [maʀˈkuːzə]; July 19, 1898 – July 29, 1979) was a German-American philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist, associated with the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory. Born in Berlin, Marcuse studied at the universities of Berlin and then at Freiburg, where he received his P...

Most US Spies Are Enemies of Freedom

What if the federal government captures in real time the contents of every telephone call, email and text message and all the fiber-optic data generated by every person and entity in the United States 24/7/365? What if this mass surveillance was never authorized by any federal law?

What if this mass surveillance has come about by the secret collusion of presidents and their spies in the National Security Agency and by the federal government’s forcing the major telephone and computer service p...
