Just How Bad Are the Republicans in Congress?

I have said over the years that Republicans in Congress are at their worst when they have control of both Houses of Congress, and especially when they hold the presidency as well.

Like now.

The last time the Republicans had absolute control of the government was during the presidency of George W. Bush when they had a majority in the House and Senate for over four years.

And what did they do when they were in charge? They almost doubled the federal budget and the national debt, created the mon...

Charlottesville, Moral Equivalence, and Donald Trump

In the aftermath of the brou-ha-ha in Charlottesville, Donald Trump gave three reactions. First, he condemned all sides for the violence. But, he was met with such a screech of reaction from the main-stream media for his “moral equivalence,” that in his second go around, he pretty much, although not exactly, singled out the alt-right for special condemnation. But in his third time at bat, he reversed field (sorry for mingling football and baseball metaphors, I just couldn’t help myself) and a...

The Gas-Burning Diesel

Diesels are at the top of the Dead Pool – on account of their particularly diesel exhaust byproducts, specifically particulates (aka, soot) and oxides of nitrogen (aka NOx). But diesels are much more fuel-efficient than gas-burning engines because they are compression ignition engines.

Well, compression and heat.

Instead of a spark to set off the explosion, the air/fuel charge is progressively squeezed (and thereby, heated) as the pistons ascends within its cylinder until – boom! – it ignites...

Don’t Forget About the Red Swan

Given the anti-Trump feeding frenzy, we continue to believe that a Swan is on its way bearing Orange. But if that’s not enough to dissuade the dip buyers, perhaps the impending arrival of the Red Swan will at least give them pause.

The chart below comprises a picture worth thousands of words. It puts the lie to the latest Wall Street belief that the global economy is accelerating and that surging corporate profits justify the market’s latest manic rip.

What is actually going on is a short-liv...

Destroy a Culture and Reap Tyranny

As many of you are aware, I have been watching the series by Jordan Peterson, The Psychological Significance of the Biblical Stories.  I have written a couple of posts commenting on certain statements made by Peterson and insights gleaned by me.

With this post, I will capture several different tidbits, taken from several of the videos.  I am focused on his points about culture, albeit he makes dozens of other equally insightful points.  I do not attempt to cite Peterson word for word; I merel...

Oligarchs and Anti-Aging Pills

Rather than the National Institutes of Health designating public funds to further research towards development of an anti-aging pill, a key group of billionaire oligarchs now lead private enterprise ventures to discover ways to halt, slow or even reverse aging.

The anti-aging business has become a rich man’s pastime.  Silicon Valley billionaires dot the anti-aging landscape: Methuselah Foundation’s Peter Thiel, Google’s/Alphabet’s Larry Page, Oracles’s Larry Ellison, Juvenesce’s Jim Mellon, t...

Beware of These Heavenly Bodies

On September 1, Florence the asteroid will whizz past Earth making it the largest asteroid sighting in history. It will then be gone for 500 years. NASA has assured that this asteroid doesn’t pose any threat to our planet, but there are some asteroids out there which are a danger to Earth. Sputnik takes a look at some of these heavenly bodies.

Eros

433 Eros is one of the largest near-Earth asteroids. It is stony and elongated and its observation history is over 100 years old. In January 2012,...

We’re All Racists Now

Political life for us libertarians is not easy. Every election cycle we look at the options before us and have a hard time explaining to either side why we can’t support their candidate. Both sides expect us to fall in line to the beat of W’s “you’re either with us or you’re against us.”  During the last election, many of us, even those that don’t vote found ourselves exploring the remote possibility that Donald Trump might pursue a less aggressive foreign policy and that he might actually ta...

Jeff Sessions Wants To Seize Your Property

Justin’s note: Jeff Sessions wants to steal your property.

Sessions is the U.S. Attorney General. Since taking office in February, he’s done all sorts of idiotic things. He’s threatened to crack down on the legal marijuana market. He’s attacked gay rights.

And now, he wants to amp up asset seizures.

This is when the government takes money and property from people. You don’t even need to be convicted of a crime.

It’s a disturbing development, to say the least. That’s why I called Doug Casey as...
