The Gender Racket

One of my many regrets is that when I was young and on the tennis circuit, I played as a man. I had a crush on Margaret Osborne duPont, an older player who won numerous Wimbledon and U.S. national doubles titles, and the very pretty Karen Hantz, a Wimbledon singles winner, not to mention the Buding sisters from Germany. Had I thought of it back then—I am talking about the late ’50s—I could have been showering with them, not to mention competing against them. Instead, I had my you-know-what ki...

The British Pound in Decline

The decline of a nation’s money often parallels the decline of the nation.  Rome’s money stands as the classic example; Great Britain’s pound is the contemporary example.

In Rome’s final days, its coins were debased, minted with reduced amounts of gold and silver.  Consequently, the people astutely took note of which coins contained the greater amounts of gold or silver, but the Senate took typical government action.  It made it illegal for a merchant to ask a buyer with which coins he was go...

Libertarians, Never Believe the First MSM Account

This post will only begin with Charlottesville; it will thereafter flow into other topics – I think all related, flowing through the same stream.

Charlottesville

On the day of the events many stories were told, all parroting some version of the mainstream narrative: white supremacists and Nazis did it; everyone else there just wanted peace.

I decided at the time not to comment: most importantly, I was certain that whatever we heard in the mainstream was a lie, so why not let things settle a b...

Like Ford vs Chevy

For decades these two companies fought tooth and nail. (Photo: Francis Borek)

Before all of the endlessly debated firearms rivalries of today became the fodder of forums and social media. Before AR vs. AK870 vs. 500or even Mauser vs. Lee Enfield — there was Colt vs. Smith & Wesson.

The rise of these two firearms companies took place at roughly the same time, and the founders of the companies both decided to exit the gun market for some time before diving back into the fray. For decades,...

The Nazis Were Leftists

Is it too much to say that since the French Revolution, the left has been the source of virtually all political evils, and continues to be so in our day?

There can be no doubt that great cruelty and violence can be and have been inflicted in the name of preserving the existing order.

But when we compare even the worst enormities of the more distant past with the leftist totalitarian revolutions and total wars of the twentieth centuries, they are in general a mere blip. The entire history of t...

Was the ‘Civil War’ Fought Over Slavery?

When I read Professor Thomas DiLorenzo’s article the question that lept to mind was, “How come the South is said to have fought for slavery when the North wasn’t fighting against slavery?”

Two days before Lincoln’s inauguration as the 16th President, Congress, consisting only of the Northern states, passed overwhelmingly on March 2, 1861, the Corwin Amendment that gave constitutional protection to slavery. Lincoln endorsed the amendment in his inaugural address, saying “I have no objection to...

The War Trap

There are more parallels between an unfinished 1950s war in Northeast Asia and an ongoing 16-year-old war in the crossroads between Central and South Asia than meet the eye. Let’s start with North Korea.

Once again the US/South Korea Hunger Games plow on. It didn’t have to be this way.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov explained how: “Russia together with China developed a plan which proposes ‘double freezing’: Kim Jong-un should freeze nuclear tests and stop launching any types of balli...

US Doesn’t Want Its War on Afghanistan To End

The US is alarmed Pakistan decided Russia has the best chance of being a stabilizing force for a peaceful outcome in Afghanistan: the US doesn’t want to end the war which is a cash cow, says Brian Becker from the anti-war ANSWER coalition.

During Donald Trump’s speech on Monday, where he presented the new Afghanistan strategy, the US leader criticized Pakistan by calling it a “haven” for terrorists.

“Pakistan has also sheltered the same organizations that try every single day to kill our peop...

The Humble Banana

By Dr. Mercola

The humble banana is one of the most popular fruits in the world. Tasty, inexpensive and with its own clean and protective carrying case, it’s the perfect nutritious snack, even for busy people, and kids love it.

Although they’re picked while still green, bananas continue to ripen, but to speed up the process at home, putting them in a brown paper bag for a few days does the trick. Bananas should be stored at room temperature, not refrigerated or left in an area where the tempe...

The Struggle for Freedom and Dignity

I sincerely believe that in the future, “The Road to Serfdom“will rank alongside works of the John Locke, Adam Smith, Edmond Burke, Alexis De Tocqueville, and Ludwig von Mises in defining human freedom. Its insights inspire me to read it again at least every few years. And that is easy to do because it is a brief, well written book that explains how essential the freedom and dignity of each human individual are to the formation of a prosperous, good and just society.

Like many young, intellig...
