Why I Would Make a Terrible Crit Partner

I've thought about trying to find a couple of serious crit partners, but I've decided against it. I already have two, one who is an avid reader and the other who is a fellow author, but sometimes they are too close and might not have a critical enough eye. They love me too much! :0) But the critical eye thing is why I wouldn't make a good partner for an author trying to make their book the very best it can be. Because when I read, I want to be entertained. I want to be barely able to put the ...

Different Genre?

I've been thinking a lot lately about the genre I write it, which is paranormal romance. I've written 2 novellas, one about a vampire and one about a ghost. I've written two novels, one about an elf and a wizard, and one about a ghost. I'm currently working on another novella about a vampire. And I do really like paranormal romance. But it's not my first love. Since I discovered Stephen King in high school, I've been a fan of horror. That's my favorite genre. Mysteries and paranormal romance ...

5 star/1 Star

I've been thinking a lot about reviews lately. I've suddenly gotten a couple of 1 star reviews and I almost stopped writing. I wondered what the point was. But I started thinking about the 5 stars I had. Some from people I knew and some from readers I didn't know. I began to wonder how there could be such a big difference in opinion. I started researching other people's books. For instance, a lot of indie authors seem to really love a certain fellow indie, and her books are pretty high up in ...

I Don't Like Zombies

I love paranormal romance. I write paranormal romance. But I'll never write about a zombie. Zombies absolutely creep me out, and I don't even want to think about them. I was recently at a show where there were a lot of vendor booths and there was this stone (or ceramic, I don't know) zombie that looked like it was coming out of the ground. Ew.

Ok, I'm going to get a little gross here, so you may not want to read on. Can you imagine writing a paranormal romance about a zombie? Just think about ...

June vs. July

June was a great month for sales for a lot of people. I thought July was going to be a dud, but it turned out better than I thought. But not necessarily for my biggest seller. I finished up at a total of 35 fewer books sold in July than in June. But the percentage of copies sold of each book was completely different. Here's how it worked out on percentages of total sales.

June: A Rocky Path 1%, Club Blood 88%, See Me 10%, Starfane 2% (comes to 101% because of rounding)

July: A Rocky Path 4%, ...

Still Struggling With POV

I haven't touched my latest project in two weeks. I'm almost afraid of it. This is the first time I've ever had trouble loving my characters. And I still think it's because I haven't tried writing from the male main character's point of view. He's itching to tell his side of the story. I have just never done third person omniscient before. And I'm scared. I'm afraid I won't be able to make the transition between the two POV's smoothly. But today, I'm going to try. It's going to be the...
