Stephen King 11/22/63

I just got an email that said Stephen King's novel, 11/22/63 will be released on Nov. 8, so I guess you can pre-order. There was a link to the Amazon page. The "enhanced" ebook is $18.99. The hard cover edition is on sale for $18.42 (reg. $35.00). This is just wrong. And people wonder why some authors want to be indie?

The first ebook I ever loaded on my Kindle on Christmas day was Stephen King's "Under the Dome". It was $9.99. I thought that was a lot for a book that didn't have any paper, ink, or other "physical" costs. But, hey, it was Stephen King, right? I've never paid that much for an ebook since. When I saw this email today, I was shocked. $18.99 for an ebook? Why wouldn't I just buy the hard cover? It makes me think that might be the whole point. Trying to sell the hard cover edition instead of the ebook. I have no idea.

I wonder if I'll get any hate mail because of this post. LOL.

ROW80 Check In 8/31

My files for Secrets of the Wolf are ready to go for publishing on Amazon, Smashwords, and B & N. All I'm waiting on is my cover art. I've been really picky, so the cover art has been harder this time. Anya is supposed to be working on one last idea, and hopefully that will be it. I was expecting to see it last night, but she has been busy with other things. Maybe today. And hopefully, the retailers can get a move on and get it published for the Labor Day weekend.

Thanks again to J.R. for giving Secrets of the Wolf one last proof.

My first book in the Libby Fox series, Dark Relic: Vampires' Curse, will be on the Indie Book Blowout website, so hopefully that will garner some interest. This book hasn't sold like my others have. Then, if Secrets of the Wolf comes out this weekend, readers who buy Dark Relic will be able to continue the story.

My Bad Dream

I often have very strange, and sometimes funny, dreams. I rarely have nightmares, but I think this one counts. The night before last, I dreamed that this man shot me in the back of the head. I felt myself being shot, although there wasn't really pain, and then things got black and I was just gone. Then I came back. Only to be shot in the head again. This happened about three times, me getting shot in the head and coming back. Finally, I asked the man why he kept shooting me because I was just going to keep coming back. He said he had to because that was his job. What in the WORLD could have made me dream something like that???

ROW80 Check In – A Day Late

I'm a day late checking in, but there was so much going on yesterday that I just didn't do it. So that means I'll also be late checking on some of the other writers. Bad sponsor! :|

Right now, I'm struggling with the cover art for Secrets of the Wolf. My cover designer Anya Kelleye is probably about to shoot me. But I just can't seem to be satisfied. I keep making her change little things. LOL. I'm so glad she's got such a laid back personality. Or she would have killed me by now. I'm also waiting on one more beta reader to give me her thoughts and point out more typos. Thank you for reading, J.R. So as soon as these two things are finished, I'll be ready to publish the second novella in the Libby Fox series. I hope it will be ready for Labor Day weekend, but you never know how long it will take for the retailers to get things going. I've put my first novella in the series, Dark Relic: Vampires' Curse, in the Indie Book Blowout for the Labor Day sale, so it would be great to get the second one out there, too.

ROW Check In 8/24/11 and How to Be Incognito

I finished up edits on the second Libby Fox novella last night. I sent it out to another beta reader to see if anything else needs changing. My working title was Secrets of the Wolf. But there are two or three other books with that same title. But I checked out some other books I've read recently, and one of them had the same title as six others. What do you think? Should I change the title or leave it?

Also, I have a dilemma about what to do about a photo that will show on all social media. Right now I use my book covers for a "gravatar". I know that a lot of you have a picture of yourself. My problem is that I need to stay under the radar. I want my personal life and author life to stay separate. There are a number of reasons, some big ones, for this that I won't go into right now. I actually took a photo of myself and converted it into a drawing. I've also asked my son if he thought he could sketch a pic of me. I just don't know what to do. Using book covers seems impersonal for some reason. What do you guys think?

Review of Red by Kait Nolan

I don't usually do reviews on my blog because I'm really just not good at writing them. But I felt like I had to try with this one, because of the complete awesomeness of this book.

I've waited for this book to come out for a long time, and it was definitely worth the wait. I was pulled into the story from page one, and I could barely make myself stop reading long enough to do things that needed to be done. You know, like go to work. Very well written, exciting, romantic…these are just a few words to describe this story that wove it's way into my heart. I was so blown away by this book that I had a really hard time getting it off my mind after I finished reading it. I think that's a good indicator that a book is awesome…when the reader thinks about it after it's over. You HAVE to read this book!

ROW80 Check In 8/21

I finished the first round of editing last night for my novella (I had a title, but I found at least three other books with that title, so I'm not sure I'll use it), and as soon as I have it fixed on the computer, I'll send to another beta reader. I found a big plot problem. My vampire was awake during the day in one scene. LOL. That was easy to fix. I'm slowing getting Starfane ready for print, but publishing the novella for E is first on my list. At some point, I need to do edits for Jonathan Eli on Kat's Decision.

Right now I should be at church, but I have a migraine, so I'm lounging around at home.

How has everyone else's week gone?

ROW80 Check In 8/18/11

I'm a day late checking in because I was on the road (and in the air) on Wednesday. Nothing, really, to report since I didn't take anything with me to proof or edit. I just wanted to say hi.

Also, if you're so inclined, check out my previous post about the Boyle Brothers. :0)
