Worst. Seduction. Ever.

Someone, bless them, just uploaded this hideous moment from Green Wing where Dr Statham impresses Joanna with his sportiness in the hospital office from Green Wing, while she comes to the slow realisation that it may have been a bad idea to have encouraged him.

Art Deco London

There's a surprising amount of art deco tucked away in London if you know where to look. I spotted this building, called Shropshire House, in a side-alley off Tottenham Court Road today. I don't register having seen it before, but I guess the new paint-job has made it stand out.

A few roads behind it [...]

London's Stupidest Street Furniture

My photo shows the corner of Hastings Street, which features no less than eight bits of street furniture in a six-foot space on a corner where hardly any traffic is ever seen, including;
2 CCTV cameras
3 Bollards
2 One Way Signs
1 Two Way Sign (with another sign attached to other side)
Just out of shot is one dead-battery [...]

Celebrity Sell-Out

…Don't they always? The first night's sold out but there are plenty of seats left for later in the run. Victoria Jeffrey, Neil Burgess, Mark Martin & Lucy Clements star in this libellous comedy of big stars and bad behaviour, based on the life of a real press agent (who will be attending certain nights!)

Nov [...]

Re:View – 'The Social Network'

Synopsis: The birth of the Facebook generation and its fallout.

Things I learned from watching 'The Social Network'.

1. David Fincher has made a multi-Oscar-winning film.
2. 'West Wing' writer Aaron Sorkin is the best scriptwriter in Hollywood.
3. Guys who make lists don't get girls.
4. There is something fundamentally wrong with the capitalist system.
5. It's great to see [...]

Technology 2: Feeling You're Behind

There are two big problems with technology.

1. Trying to find something interesting with which to illustrate technology articles.
2. Being on the one-year cycle.

Being an Apple fan has its downside. The biggest one is the messianic thrice-yearly announcements from Steve Jobs telling us that what we just bought is about to become obsolete. Three announcements for [...]

More Than A Thousand!

I just seem to have cruised past the thousand-article mark on this blog (that's not including all the rest of the stuff we painstakingly assemble that's dotted around the site). I'd turn it into a book except that it's a mad ragbag of bits and bobs that interest me – and I hope might interest [...]

Celebrity 7: Flogging Tickets

Now comes the question – how do you keep tickets selling beyond the opening of the play? In a way, I imagine the first night will be the worst – the technical run-through is only earlier that day, things are bound to go wrong and the show will get smoother during the run. So doesn't [...]

British Character Actors No.12 – Terence Alexander

I always imagine this guy with a handlebar moustache, turning up in films as a pilot, a good chap in a crisis.

Terence Alexander many appearances on stage, screen and radio (although as a supporting rather than a leading player). He built a line of beguiling rogues, upper-class charmers, and, occasionally, twits. "Some directors see me [...]

Technology 1: The End Of The Printed Word

Reports from the Frankfurt Book Fair say that e-book rights sales are rising fast, driven by America. Europe is horrified by the idea of hard-copy books vanishing, publishers are in turmoil, profits are plunging. Except that no-one can see any evidence. The rare early adopter, usually male, well-off and young, can be seen toting an [...]
