No Posts Until July 17th
Because I am here…on my way from Bodrum to Gocek.
No connectivity. No long trousers. No heavy thinking for a week. And just in case my eReader fails, I'm taking a stack of books. Don't get me started.
The blog will be back with all-new fun on the week commencing July 18th. Stay tuned.
The Simplest Ideas Are The Best
A Canadian website, dearphotograph.com, has launched a worldwide game, and it's the simplest idea in the world. Dig out an old photo, match it to the present surround. At the moment the captions people are adding tend toward mawkish nostalgia, but I'm sure a lot of new twists will emerge as it progresses…

Mash For Lunch
I'm trying to finish a short story today and playing some old mash-ups I found on a file disk. DJ Zebra's still going, apparently, and still finding exact beats to match.
And while we're on the subject (more displacement therapy when I should be working!) how about Nancy Sinatra's 'Bang Bang' mash-up with the Bond theme?

Bertorelli's restaurant has gone after a century of providing Italian food in Charlotte Street. This [...]
Gormenghast: The Quadrilogy!
Who knew? It turns out there's a fourth volume of Mervyn Peake's astonishing gothic fantasia. Not only that, there are a hundred illustrations, 75% of which have never been seen before, and it's all being presented by Mervyn's son Sebastian, together with China Mieville, at the British Library this Friday, to celebrate the launch of [...]

Red Gloves Nears Completion
Acclaimed artist Graham Humphries hasnow finished two beautiful covers for the Red Gloves collection, which will contain two volumes of short stories – one for English tales and one for world tales. Also included are an essay on the events that were happening while I wrote the tales, and two Bryant & May short stories.
The [...]
The Fear Of Being Disconnected
I had wi-fi in Sri Lanka and Cambodia, even in parts of Oman, but this one has defeated me. On Thursday I'm off here, to Bodrum, on the Turkish coast…
And I'll be on board a gulet, which means no electronic communication. I didn't realise how completely the internet had taken over my life until I [...]

Thought For The Day
Behind London Bridge station – sounds a bit commie if you ask me.
Unchanged Parts Of London
Walking behind Southwark Cathedral and what's left of Borough Market, I came upon Thrale Street, which appears to have missed the wrecker's ball and would be a good place to film a period movie. The area around here is still a Roman Catholic enclave, so there are schools, churches and nurseries amongst the abandoned buildings [...]

What Mustn't You Forget To Do?
Sign in eager-to-please Italian cafe in Bloomsbury. Just like eating at your Mum's.
