Our volunteer judges have worked tirelessly to work through hundreds of entries and made some tough decisions to narrow it down to the final shortlists. The Association would like to extend our congratulations to those who have made it this far and thank those that who entered works in this year's awards.

Black Beacon Books

http://www.blackbeaconbooks.blogspot....

Black Beacon Books is an independent publisher based in Brisbane, Australia.

What are our aims?

- To promote short fiction and novellas. We have nothing against novels here at BBB and plan to publish novels eventually, but we absolutely love the shorter forms, particularly anthologies.

- To bring exciting and intriguing tales to the reading public. We like dark fiction that falls into the genres of mystery, suspense, psychological horror, adventure, black humour and the just plain weird. Tales that entertain and, at the same time, have something to say about society and the human condition are very highly regarded.

- To promote, as much as possible, Australian writers.

"Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales" giveaway!

It's Australia Day (or Invasion Day, if you prefer) this Saturday and while thousands of us roast ourselves at the beach, play a game of the world's most exciting sport - cricket, or just get drunk at the local and start a fight with a complete stranger - you can celebrate the occasion by winning a book written by an Aussie...

I'm participating in the Book'd Out Australia Day Book Giveaway Blog Hop. Yeah, I know it's a mouthful but the concept is simple - you can win books by Australian writers by hopping through the participating blogs and entering the various competitions.

I'm giving away a print copy of my short story collection, "Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales". The book contains twenty-three dark and quirky tales of mystery, adventure and terror taking you from the Scottish highlands, through the Pyrenees and into the towns, suburbs and cities of Australia, Ireland and Britain. There are two copies to give away, one will go to an Australian resident and the other to a foreign (non-Australian) resident. All you have to do is answer a on my blog. Entries close at midnight on Monday the 28th and the winners will be announced by the end of the month - good luck!Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales

"Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales"

http://www.amazon.com/Hoffmans-Creepe...

"Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales" is the debut short story collection from Cameron Trost and includes twenty previously published and brand new tales.

A businessman staying in a Scottish manor makes the mistake of deciding to spend the evening in the library. A few unpopular teenage girls use witchcraft to pursue their aims. A rich banking tycoon has forgotten his university days when he and his friends dared to imagine a world ruled by social justice and working class ideals. The estranged family of a deceased aristocrat bicker over their inheritance. A botanist’s love for his plants is unnaturally deep-rooted.

“Hoffman’s Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales” is the first short story collection from Cameron Trost. It plunges the reader into a world of mystery, suspense, obsession and greed. From the Scottish highlands and the jagged peaks of the Pyrénées to the streets of Brisbane and the Australian countryside, Cameron Trost provokes the reader by ensnaring recognisable characters in disturbingly plausible situations. His writing seeks to entertain while exploring the absurdities and peculiarities of society and the human mind.Hoffman's Creeper and Other Disturbing Tales

Letterbox

Ian Carew left London to become a teacher in Mirebury, a town lost in the moors of Cornwall where everybody knows each other and life is quiet and pleasant. His elderly neighbour, Mrs Mary Hopkins, treats him like a son, and the local butcher, Jack Cochon, is his closest friend. All that is missing from Ian’s life is a good woman to share his bed with and a little adventure.

Little does he know, he is about to get a taste of both.

One day, when Mrs Mary Hopkins opens her letterbox, she makes a gruesome discovery and suddenly Mirebury is thrown into a state of shock and outrage.

At first, they assume it was a random act, but the horrible deliveries continue and, before long, the townsfolk of Mirebury are forced to acknowledge that they have become the target of a campaign of terror – and nobody’s letterbox is safe.

Is the dreaded “Postman” one of them, or is he an outsider?

Tensions grow and the solid communal values of Mirebury crumble as suspicion and accusations tear the town apart. Neighbour is pitted against neighbour and tempers flare.

The enemy only strikes at night and moves through the fog like a phantom as he makes his deliveries - it seems impossible to catch him. The fate of Mirebury will come down to one man.

LETTERBOX is a dark thriller about how fragile the fabric of small town society really is and how one man, by pulling the right strings, can expose dirty secrets and trigger underlying tensions between neighbours. Letterbox Letterbox by Cameron Trost
