THE EMPEROR’S SOUL at Storybundle + WORDS OF RADIANCE tour notes
Words of Radiance came out yesterday. I’m on tour now; today I’m signing in the Los Angeles area and tomorrow I’ll be in the Bay Area for a lunchtime signing and an evening signing.
We had a great turnout at the midnight release, and the BYU Bookstore ordered enough copies that they managed not to sell out. In fact, there are about 50 copies left that are signed and numbered. They’re sure to sell out soon, so stop by the store or order one here. Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego also has about 50 signed and numbered copies, and you can order one here while supplies last. Both stores will ship.
Yesterday before our outbound flight fromt the SLC airport, Ben McSweeney and I signed copies of Words of Radiance in the airport’s Simply Books store. I posted photos on Twitter and Facebook yesterday, and you can also see them in one place on Tor.com. (Note: Fans who went to check at the store report that these books have already been purchased by some lucky readers.) Ben’s not going on the whole tour with me, but I’ll be leaving signed books in airports across the country. Some will have Szeth cards inside, and some Szeth cards will have codes for the Shardhunt. I’m also posing Szeth in various locations on his travels during this tour, and you can see the photos on Twitter and Facebook.
Today marks the release of another project: the Epic Fantasy Bundle at Storybundle, available for the next 3 weeks only. Below are the ebooks that are included.
Neil Gaiman, David Farland, Tracy Hickman, James Artimus Owen, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Peter David, Kevin J. Anderson, and Peter J. Wacks & Mark Ryan, along with me. This is a great lineup, and in the tradition of bundles like this, you can name your price and receive six of these ebooks, and if you pay more than $12 you receive the first six as well as The Emperor’s Soul, Clockwork Angels, and The Immortals. All are DRM-free. You can also decide yourself what the split is between the authors and the Storybundle organizers, and you can optionally pick from three charities to donation a portion to.
Please do note that my Hugo Award-winning novella The Emperor’s Soul is the only part of the bundle that can’t be included worldwide for licensing reasons—it’s not in the bundle if you buy it from the UK or Commonwealth/former Commonwealth countries (except for Canada, where it is included in the bundle). I apologize for throwing this wrench into things, but my UK publisher has exclusive distribution rights in those countries.
As a bonus, The Emperor’s Soul ebook now includes the deleted prologue with Hoid in a bonus content section at the end of the book. That’s in the Storybundle version, and my assistant Peter will be adding it to the other ebook stores’ versions soon (so that if you bought it already you should be able to redownload the book and receive the updated version). Right now that version of the book is on Google Play and the iBookstore, and it will be added to the other vendors’ versions when he can find a moment.
Enjoy!

WORDS OF RADIANCE release party tonight + Updates
Writing Excuses has two new episodes: “When is your handwavium good enough?” and “What to do when truth is stranger than fiction.” Also, all of my February tweets have been uploaded here.
Words of Radiance comes out tomorrow in the US and Canada in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook (the UK/Commonwealth date is Thursday), and the midnight release party is tonight at the BYU Bookstore. They started handing out wristbands this morning, and nearly half of their copies have already been reserved. There’s a real danger of them selling out, so if you want to make sure you get a copy, run down to the store and prepay (or show your online receipt) to get your wristband.
I’m going in at about 9:00 p.m. to pre-sign and number all of the books. The doors will open at 10:00 p.m., and I’ll start my public Q&A and reading at about 10:45. You can grab your book at midnight and go home to sleep (or read), or you can stick around and have me personalize your books and ask me one-on-one questions. That will take at least a couple more hours, so it’s going to be a late night. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you there! Full details on the midnight release are here.
There’s info on my entire book tour here. If you would like to get my newsletter (3 or 4 times per year—I’ll be sending one tomorrow) and have me send you email reminders when I’m signing near you, tell me your city here (be sure to check the box!).

UPDATE: Gaming for a Cause this Friday night in SLC
Fans have asked about tonight’s event: Why pay money to play Magic with me when they often can come and play Magic with me for free? So in lieu of me coming tonight, I’m sending an early signed copy of Words of Radiance to auction off for the charity Junior Achievement, which helps 80,000 kids each year. (Please also consider donating to them here.) The copy of Words of Radiance will be auctioned at 9:00 p.m. at Epic Puzzles & Games in West Valley City.
The original flyer is below.

Just a quick note to let you know that I’ll be at Epic Puzzles & Games on Friday night for their Gaming for a Cause event. The flyer is below. I’ll be there for four hours starting about 10:00 p.m., playing pick-up games of Magic. As you can see, other luminaries will be there as well!

One week left! Spoiler-free reviews of WORDS OF RADIANCE
Words of Radiance comes out in one week. Here are some early non-spoiler reviews: Alice at Tor.com, Carl at Tor.com, Eric & Josh at 17thShard.
On Saturday I went up to Weller Book Works and signed 500 copies of Words of Radiance. So if you ordered from them, it’s in the process of being shipped out. They’re shipping to people who live outside the US first, then to other states, and finally to Utah. They’re trying to time things so that your book arrives on Tuesday, March 4th, but shipping can be unpredictable. They’ll do their best.
On Monday evening, March 3rd, I’ll be at the BYU Bookstore presigning and numbering all of their books for the midnight release. Here’s another reminder from the bookstore that if you’re attending, they really want you to preorder so they can be sure to have enough copies. Full details on the midnight release are here.

Yesterday my store manager Kara put up a post about cool new Stormlight merchandise in the store. Take a look if you haven’t yet.

New Stormlight merch and A Memory of Light hardcovers in the store
Hello everyone! This is Kara, the manager of Brandon’s online store. With the upcoming release of Words of Radiance, we’ve added some awesome new products, and I’m pretty excited about them.

You might remember our Bridge Four and Stormlight Archive shirts from the days of InkWing.com. We’ve updated both of those to use the new Bridge Four and Stormlight Archive symbols. Look closely at the words that make up the new Bridge Four glyph—I think it’s pretty cool. We’ve recently switched to a new printing company which has allowed us to increase the quality, design, and packaging of the shirts. The shirts themselves fit better, are softer, and a bit longer. I hope you enjoy them!

For a while now, I’ve wanted to release a beanie featuring the brands on Kaladin’s forehead. After the holiday season, we immediately jumped into production, and I think they turned out awesome. We received these at the end of January, and I immediately wanted to put them on the store but had to wait. Then, the image got leaked (yay! but not my fault) and so up went the beanies for sale in the colors of Bridge Four. Kaladin is the bomb. His brands are wicked cool. I love this hat!

Within an hour of receiving the new decals, I had already decorated Brandon’s vehicle with them, and they look so good! I couldn’t stop there. My laptop, my van, Isaac’s laptop, the cat—wait. Anyway, I love these things. I’ve had to keep from putting them on random cars in the neighborhood. Can’t wait to see some of them in the wild . . .

I am in love with the cover of Words of Radiance by Michael Whelan. One of my favorite things about it is the Bridge Four patch on Kaladin’s shoulder. Do you want one? We have them! They have iron-on backings, so whether you want to just iron it on or sew it on, we’ve got you covered. Add it to your favorite coat, backpack, suitcase, bag, purse, couch, blanket, stuffed animal, etc. Go Bridge Four!

It’s been a year since A Memory of Light came out. Wow. What a year it has been! And now we’ve got signed copies of the hardcover in our store. We’ve also bundled the final three books of The Wheel of Time into a trilogy package. These books are fantastic and make great gifts.
Miscellaneous
I hope to see some of you at the Midnight Release Party for Words of Radiance. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and not just because I’m helping to plan it. We’ve got some fun giveaways planned, some of which will show up in the store, or as freebies I occasionally insert into random orders. If you see me, say hi. It totally makes my day to run into a readers when I’m out and about and be able to give them something fun.
We’ve got a lot more products in the works, and I can’t wait to show them to you. Keep checking out the store, and keep enjoying the books. Sanderson fans are the best! Go us!

Mistborn Film Rights
As many of you know, a Mistborn film has been in the development stages for several years now. The producers, Paloppa Pictures, were wonderful to partner with and worked very hard to bring a Mistborn vision to the big screen. However, their rights have just lapsed. They’re still interested in the project, but we’re in this strange place where the Mistborn rights after five or six years are finally available again.
So, this is a word of announcement to those out there who may have been watching out for this. The Mistborn rights are available to option. Any offer would need to be very serious in order for us to consider it, but if you are in the film industry and you have an interest in the Mistborn film rights, be aware that you should contact the office of Joel Gotler at Intellectual Property Group.

Writing Class Videos & Updates
First some updates on Words of Radiance, which comes out in less than two weeks. It’s almost here! Tor.com has posted what it was like to be a beta reader (note: I’m not currently looking for additional beta readers) and spoiler-free reactions to the book, and they’re mailing out daily context-free snippets. You can see all the sample chapters and Tor.com’s other coverage here.
For those of you wanting to go to the midnight release at the BYU Bookstore, they wanted me to make sure you know that books ordered through byubookstore.com will not be charged to your credit card until sometime between February 28th and March 4th. Please preorder here so they can make sure they have enough books; if you wait until the last few days to place your order, it will be too late for the bookstore to order more. Note: If you got an email from the BYU Bookstore saying the book was out of stock and backordered, don’t worry. Those emails were auto-generated; it only means that as of February 10th the books had not yet shipped from Tor’s warehouse to the bookstore. The books will be there at the release.
They have ordered a ton of copies, but it’s always possible they could underestimate and some readers could go home empty-handed. At the midnight release of A Memory of Light they were able to get a book to everyone only after a dozen people who had reserved more than one copy agreed to put off picking up their second copy until the next shipment came in. So if you plan to attend the midnight release and have the ability to preorder, please preorder!
Now that Weller Book Works has sold out of their signing-by-mail (I’m signing those books in two days and they’ll start shipping on Monday), I will also sign and number books for people who order from the BYU Bookstore but can’t attend the signing and want to have the book shipped. However, please be aware that everyone who comes to the release gets priority, and if they run out of books at the release, copies for shipping will have to be signed at least a week later and won’t get a number. Also many of the other stores on my tour will happily ship you a signed copy if you call them up and request it, but of course they won’t be able to ship until the day after I sign in the store. Another option is The Signed Page.
My assistant Peter has put up Twitter posts archives for January and the first half of February.
I’ve added a Writing Advice section to the website. My writing advice show Writing Excuses is of course mentioned; by the way the most recent episodes are on Artificial Intelligence (with Nancy Fulda), Highjacking the Knowledge You Already Have (with Mette Ivie Harrison), the Experience of Time, and Last Pass Revisions (with Eric James Stone).
The newest additions to my Writing Advice page are the lectures from my 2014 creative writing class, which you can also see below or on my YouTube channel.
