January 28, 2014: New Magic, Personal Dimensions, More Worlds: It Must Be Pyramid!
There's one thing explorers of the limitless cosmos agree on: It has something for everyone. The just-released Pyramid #3/63: Infinite Worlds II continues this tradition by unleashing the boundless power of the alternate realities. With this tome, you can tinker with Jason "PK" Levine's new GURPS advantage-based magic system, or use the new expansion to carve out your own pocket dimension and really get away from it all.
You'll also get three new alternate timelines to explore, including David L. Pulver's weird-science-tinged look at WWII, and a setting whose scientists seek to harness the power of Banestorms. If getting lost in some shopping is more your speed, then Phil Masters' "Infinite Aisles" offers a cross-dimensional twist that melds world-hopping with mall-hopping.
Now is the time to book your out-of-this-world adventure or sign up to test strange new abilities! Grab Pyramid #3/63: Infinite Worlds II individually, or start your subscription today for many more months of suitcase-packed possibilities.

January 25, 2014: Your Friendly Neighborhood Ninja Editor
Hello! I hear you all like to know stuff. Well, here's stuff about my pedigree, so to speak. Since 1994, I've been an editor or website producer in the roleplaying game industry. I started off as an editor at West End Games, then ventured forth to Lake Geneva to work on AD&D at TSR, Inc. When Wizards of the Coast acquired TSR, I made the trek to the Seattle area, where I had fun times working on Dragonlance: Fifth Age projects with an awesome team of creative folk. I picked up my first website production job while there, then pulled off my signature "ninja editor" move to vanish to Kansas City, Missouri. Until recently, I was primarily a contractor for Wizards of the Coast, but I have also worked with Kobold Press, Lone Shark Games, and Monte Cook Games. In fact, I still continue to work with these fine folk when I'm not doing fun projects for Steve Jackson Games. I'm a wee bit of a workaholic. Just a wee bit. Okay, maybe I'm understating the workaholic thing.
So, what do I do at Steve Jackson Games? I am your friendly neighborhood prepress editor. I am given an assignment, then I disappear for a bit and come back with a lot of questions. The wonderful and talented folk here answer my questions and then take my markings and guidance into the next stage of production. My goal is to help make projects better than they were before they landed on my desk. I'm also pretty good at draining pens dry and killing off stacks of sticky notes. Poor little sticky notes. They die brave and colorful deaths.
Oh, by the way, I've been here since late September. I'm sneaky that way. Ninja editor, remember? ::vanishes::

January 24, 2014: Giant Clone Troopers? I'll Take Two!
Anyone who follows my toy site,
battlegrip.com
, is well aware of my fascination with Star Wars Stormtrooper and Clone Troopers. Since first seeing Star Wars (we won't state a year, but it was when the movie first ran in theaters) I've had an unreasonable and unusual love for the Stormtrooper design, and that has impacted the toys and statues I collect.
And now, through the use of some magical pricing structure I cannot understand, Jakks Pacific is creating 31-inch tall Clone Trooper action figures . . . priced at only $30 each. These are amazing pieces featuring perfect sculpts, nice paint, and even limited articulation. I've got 6-inch scale action figures that cost $30 at the time, so whatever Jakks Pacific is doing to bring these in at such a low price I hope they can keep it up! Trust me, as a toy collector I can tell you that $30 for something of this size and quality is unheard of.
If you have any interest at all in these then find them now. I doubt the prices will stay this low forever.

January 23, 2014: Reviews!

Jeff Provine over at Blog Critics recently reviewed Munchkin Apocalypse , Chez Geek , and Castellan ! Spoiler: he liked them a lot! Here's an excerpt from his Castellan review:
Much of the fun of Castellan is in its theme of castle-building, and the blocks alone are enough to enjoy the medieval style. There is a distinct portion of the rules set aside to explain chivalry, a relic of a more civilized age. Players must be worthy of the title "noble" and should not "take advantage of trivial errors." Another player who sees a forgotten or unclaimed piece must point it out to his opponent as justice dictates. This is a far cry from other games, where taking every advantage possible is only rational.

January 21, 2014: A Dark Room
A Dark Room is an interesting thing. It's much more than it seems: part text adventure and part 4X civ-building game, and some of the most engrossing time spent watching numbers tick up as you wait for the ability to click a button again. Though it looks at first glance like a bare-bones spreadsheet simulator, the economy simulator is engaging and the text is interesting – sometimes haunting. It's like nothing else you've ever played while simultaneously causing you to recall the various things that clearly influenced it. Go check it out.
