June 12, 2021: The Science In GURPS Space, In Space

Scott Manley's YouTube channel covers space, astronomy, and rocketry, and has built up a lot of viewers.

In one of his recent videos he mentioned that GURPS Space was an important influence toward getting him interested in the science of space travel.

And this is why you want your kids to grow up playing games.

June 10, 2021: Illuminati Back In Stock

The world has made no secret of the problems that face publishers who rely on international freight. The pandemic caused a boom in sales of evergreen* games last year, and that combined with manufacturing and shipping delays meant we were out-of-stock on several key titles for the first months of this year. Finally, after several frustrating months, we can report that Illuminati is again in stock at our primary warehouse and shipping to distributors.

In an attempt to get ahead of the potential delays heading our way before the end of the year, we've already pulled the trigger on another printing of Illuminati ; the fifth printing should land in the warehouse late this summer. Of course, we won't know whether or not this gamble succeeds until early next year after we've had a chance to review 2021 holiday sales numbers.

Both Alternative Truths and 2020 are still in stock, which means that the entire new iteration of Illuminati is once again available. But for how long?

June 5, 2021: Crowdfunding Focus: Inner Demons At Bandcamp

I listen to a lot of music, mostly on vinyl over the last year since I've been at home so very, very many hours. The great thing about vinyl, besides the sound, is that it helps get me moving; every 20 minutes or so I have to stand up, walk across the room, and flip or change the record. Trust me, when you're passionate about work and easily lost in thought, external triggers that motivate you to move are very handy.

I've picked up dozens of records from Bandcamp over the last year, but now I see something different at the site: Crowdfunding! Megan McDuffee (I posted about her work last summer) is crowdfunding Inner Demons, her first full-length synthwave album complete with fabulous vocals. Check out the album on Bandcamp and then, if you're enjoying the work, consider joining the Bandcamp crowdfunding campaign to get this album as a vinyl record. I know I'm sure hoping this project meets the goal!

June 4, 2021: Kickstarter Reports, June 2021 Update

Car Wars continues to be a headache and is our greatest source of stress when it comes to crowdfunding efforts.

Many of our recent projects have been much smaller, easier campaigns with items produced in the United States, which has made the process flow smoother and faster. Unfortunately, we're about to tackle more large campaigns that require six to eight months to fulfill, but the only way we get new Pocket Box games, Wiz-War , and GURPS Girl Genius is to accept that not every Kickstarter campaign can wrap up within a single quarter.

For planning purposes, we're now estimating ten weeks on the ocean for most containers . . . plus whatever port delays and warehouse troubles may strike. #protip Don't try and fulfill a massive Kickstarter campaign during a global pandemic and the aftermath of the pandemic.That's four open projects, two of which are in or moving into the fulfillment stage, one in funding, and Car Wars . It's going to be a glorious day when we can remove Car Wars from this report and when the game is in your hands. We're looking forward to seeing Car Wars pics online and reading your play reports.
