Secrets

Secrets walk the silentside

Of yes and no.

They can’t abide the light of day.

They come and go

In stressful tones the tunesmith blows

Until the rain comes outto play.

Whispers leave notelltale signs

On petals soft

To bide their time whilst angels wing

And lost souls climb

On lofty heights to sing sublime

Where “nothings” turn to“everythings”.

And you and I are witnessfair

To whispered secrets

            Living where no footsteps fall

To spoil the sands

As conscience holds the upper hand

And none succeed to scaleher wall.

Bury whispered secretsdeep

And pray you don’t talkin your sleep.

Consequences

Actions all haveconsequences,

Good – Bad –Sometimes tragic.

There is no magicpotion, salve or lotion

To relieve thepain.

No shelter fromthe pouring rain.

No medicine tonumb the senses.

All that anyonecan hope is

Enough rope tospan the gap.

Perhaps a map orsome direction

To belayconfusion,

A simple commonsense infusion.

Anything to calmand cope.

It helps to tradein honesty

Where murky roadsabound.

When all aroundconfusion stabs

The unrepentantsinners mind and

The elements wakeup to find us

On the brink ofdestiny.

Accept theverdict,

Reconcile.

A hero walks theextra mile.

Forgiveness

Days of dread and nightsof fitful slumber

Searching for a right tocure the wrong,

Struggling with demons inthe melee

While gathering thestrength to carry on.

Flying boldly in the faceof logic,

Wearing claws of fearlessfowl of prey,

Hindered only by thecurse of memory,

Forgiveness finds anotherfoe to slay.

Persistent in her graceand constant vigil

She waits until the stormclouds dissipate,

Then shifting with thestealth of soundless panthers

She swiftly moves tosoothe and vanquish hate.

Thriving like the sweetmagnolia blossom

Surviving in the swelterof the sun,

Healing hate’sapocalyptic evil,

She feeds the souls ofall who carry on.

Praise to all who curryher fresh favor.

Raise a glass and sing asong or two.

The soul that bearsforgiveness on its shoulders

Cast a shadow of a heartthat’s pure and true.

Domino Effect

Starts with but asingle-hinged myopic

            Flight of fantasy

Falling fast on ears tooeager to

            Exact veracity.

Bursting, bouncing,echoing beyond the bounds

Whereonce begun

Its legend grew on wingsthat flew

To spread beyond the setting sun.

Then one to cover, one

            To deny,

And one to set the recordstraight.

One to give a reason why.

            Far too little,

            Much too late.

Til hiding becomescommonplace

And walls of Jell-O shiftand bend

In vague translucenceseeking light

To find the rub

            To put to end.

And so they crash, thesedominoes

Unburdened any weight ofproof.

No hindrance or abatement

Tilting, falling,seeking,

            Finding truth.

Momma Said

Momma said patience isHeaven-blessed

So, I should just take atater and wait.

She lived through hardtimes

(“Nobodyhad anything.”)

Leaving it all to thewarm hand of fate.

Momma said calm is thekindest of friends.

“Thelong way around is the sweetest way home.”

And patience wins out forthose willing to wait

And not rush the race tothe final outcome.

Momma said truth is aconstant companion,

Always reliable, won’tlet me down.

But lies and deceptionare the devil’s disciples

Harboring heartaches,flaunting a frown.

Momma said troubles willknock at my door,

Panic may seize andfrustrations perplex,

Pressures will squeezeand consequence vex,

But cooler minds winagainst knee-jerk reflex.

Momma said life should belived, not observed.

Can’t join the feast ifyou don’t break some bread.

She lived by example.True to herself.

I’ll keep to my grave allthose things Momma said.

Little White Lies

Passing unnoticed,

            Little white lie.

No one to protest.

No voice to decry any evil intent.

No rules broken,

            Just bent.

Easy to let you pass by.

Easier still the nexttime,

            A new day

Falling from white to

A light shade of gray, but

Where will you live bythe end of the day?

Darkened by twilight,

            Cold and afraid.

True to your purpose,

            Your colors remain.

No one the wiser.

No one in pain.

But darkness can grow

In the blink of an eye to

Blacken the heart of

A little white lie.

Getting to Truth

Swoons in silent circles.

Hides in shadows

     Dawn to setting sun.

Layered frowns of ups anddowns

     Reflecting choices one by one.

Subtle comment

     Sudden conflict

Battle scar that neverheals.

Time records

     And hearts remember

Every lie the truthreveals.

Hidden behind walls ofquiet,

Trampled by a thunderousheard,

Wrapped in rhetoric,overstated or

Vanquished by a singleword.

Delicate on angel wings.

Balancing on tiltedscale.

Market price?

Sold by the slice.

Sign in window:

“Truth for Sale.”

So it goes and

No one knows just

Where it grows from seedsof youth.

Its journey fair to bringit where

Bright beacons glow ongolden truth.

Are You Safe Now?

We’ve been talking a bit

About saving the world.

It’s important to discuss.

But the truth is, the one thing that

The world needs saving from is us.

We are the blight, we are the blemish,

The pimple that should be popped.

The villain, the scoundrel, the reprobate,

The virus that needs to be stopped.

Sucking the sustenance out of the soils

That took billions of years to create.

Treating our fellows with horrid disdain,

Spreading venomous vengeance and hate.

This is not the way it is meant to be

In this wonderous paradise.

There is enough of this marvelous pie

So that everyone can have a generousslice.

So, go forth, my kinsmen,

Seek fortune, seek fame,

Seek all that this world has to give.

But always be wise and always

Leave food on the table

So others may live.

What If….

What if the universe, as vast as it is,

Is only a small part of something moregrand?

Something the limits of our simple brains

Can never truly understand.

What if the atom, with all its’components,

Is really a universe we cannot view?

So tiny, so miniscule, we can’t detect it,

Concealing its’ secrets from our purview.

What if this old world was totally void

Of human intervention?

Whether you believe in evolution orcreation.

A different kind of life.

A different purpose and intention.

A different destiny

With a different validation.

What if I should tell you

That the greatest truth of all is

It doesn’t make a difference

If you’re big or if you’re small.

You can always make things better,

You can turn gray skies to blue,

You can be that silver lining

Just by being you.

Is That All?

“I promise,” he said, “I will always be

Forever true. Whatever fortune

Comes my way, I will share with you.

I’ll stand beside you, be your strength

Whatever may befall.”

She hesitated but a moment,

Then said,” Is that all?”

“Are you kidding?” He exclaimed.

“I’m offering my heart and soul.

A gift more valuable than all

The world’s supply of jewels and gold.

I’ll protect you from whatever

Life may have in store.”

He waited for her answer.

She said,” Is there more?”

Seeking understanding he exclaimed,

“What do you want?

I offer everything I have, and

Still, you tease and taunt..”

When her reply was a mournful sigh

Emotions hit the wall.

And so, with a sad and heavy heart,

He said, “I guess that says it all.”
