New article about me in local newspaper

I'm really excited about this article that came out about me in The Northside Neighbor yesterday. It goes to subscribers in north Atlanta, where I live. Here's the link. I love it when the media supports indie authors and publishers, and with such enthusiasm!

Back from Vacation!

I'm just back from a two-week vacation with my family and an almost complete hiatus from socializing with friends across the Internet. It was pretty strange not to be checking in daily (I missed hearing what everyone is up to!), but I got to spend oodles of time with my kids and I read a bunch of books. I also worked on paper, editing my novel The Unified Theory of Love and Everything. The trip reminded me how important it is to break away from technology sometimes, so that the mind and soul can replenish themselves the old-fashioned way. We spent some time in Montreal, which was great. I loved being in Canada and struggling to communicate in French! What a great city. We also stayed in Massachusetts, where I'm from, and visited the Boston Museum of Science, which has improved since I was kid and is now my favorite science museum of all time. We drove to Maine for a couple of days and visited Monhegan Island for the first time. There are just dirt roads, and the only people allowed to bring cars are people who work there. It was incredible. I'll post photos this week on my other blog, www.patchofearth.com. The island is a fantastic place for any artist wanting to work without distractions. I hope you all are enjoying the summer and getting in some good beach reads! Come Find Me by Travis Neighbor Ward

Book Promotion Using Twitter – 52 Great Sources

Here's a new post from my blog Patch of Earth. Click on the link to read it!

http://www.patchofearth.com/book-prom...

If the world of Twitter seems too big when you’re diving into book promotions, these 52 Twitter Handles can help you out.

Writing and publishing books is incredibly hard work (raise your hands in the air right now if you agree!), but book promotion can be truly exhausting. The last time I checked, there were more than eight million books on Amazon.com alone, and it’s easy to feel like yours is lost in the crowd. But, before you start wallowing in self-pity, think about Twitter. According to Statistic Brain, there are currently 645,750,000 active Twitter users. Note the word ACTIVE! Plus there are 135,000 new users signing up every day. There are on average 58 million Tweets per day. Wow. I think that’s seriously cool and not to be overlooked.

Some people argue that Twitter isn’t a great place for promoting books because of the very small length of postings; I’d argue to the contrary. From my experience, Twitter folks love to help each other — and during my last free giveaway day for my novel Come Find Me, I saw direct results. After I targeted my posts to specific Twitter handles (i.e., accounts), I saw promos for my book showing up on Pinterest pages and websites worldwide. But, hey, if you’re going to Tweet about your books, remember to balance it with promoting the people that promote you. What goes around definitely comes around in the Twitter universe, in a good way. (For a list of specific, great Twitter handles, scroll down this page.) ... [Continued on my blog]

New Interview with Me on Awesome Gang

Awesome Gang has posted a fun interview with me on their site -- I love it! Here's a tidbit from it for new authors. Plus, here's the link: http://awesomegang.com/travis-neighbo...

"Do you have any advice for new authors?"
Keep writing no matter what anyone tells you. When you try to get published by traditional publishers and through agents, be prepared for people to love your writing, but not necessarily love the work you’re offering up. Just keep writing. Don’t let their criticism get into your head in a negative way; take a good, hard look at what they’re saying and decide if you can use it to improve your work, or if you need to chock it up to their own, subjective opinion and ignore it. Remember that you know best whether your work needs to be changed. Also, whenever you read a book that you feel strongly about (love or dislike), pick it apart to figure out exactly why you feel that way. Other authors are the best teacher for writers.
