Foundations Series Gets Rave Review in Russia
Over the years, AiG has had quite an impact on the church in Russia. AiG speaker Dr. Terry Mortenson has just been in Russia again, speaking in churches, seminaries, etc.
Recently, the Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) translated my new Foundations DVD series into Russian. This video series includes 12, 30-minute programs with accompanying study guides and features many of my main lecture presentations. The series was produced by our video team at AiG under the leadership of staff member Ben Wilt. It is one of the most professional series AiG has ever produced. In fact, the SGA translated this series into Russian in such a professional and first class way that it is the most incredible translation video project I have ever seen.
This week, we received a review of this series from a very influential pastor in Russia—Pastor Viktor Ryanguzov. He is also the president of the Preachers Institute in Samara where Dr. Terry Mortenson spoke recently. He has posted the following review on his Russian website:
Ken Ham – Foundations. "Answers in Genesis" and SGA, 2011. Review prepared by pastor of Transformation Church, Ryaguzov, V.S. (Samara).
So far evangelical believers in Russia are for [the] most part conservative – they believe in the creation of the world and of man. But the day is not far when their children will consider their views as naïve … if things stay as they are and the church makes no effort to protect the young minds from the discrediting of the first 11 chapters of Genesis.
The battle for the authority of Scripture has not ceased even for minute from the time when the first lines were penned by the hand of Moses. The battle has been waged not only in the sphere of theology but also in the sphere of science. If in the sphere of theology every evangelical believer considered themselves more or less competent, very few would consider themselves competent in the sphere of science. This is why people who knowledgeably use objective scientific data to protect the Bible from the attacks of atheists are worth their weight in gold . One of such person is … Ken Ham whose "Foundations" video lectures have finally arrived into Russian language with the help of SGA!
I never heard about this man before who has a gift to explain complicated things in a way that is interesting and easy to understand. And he, by the way, has been in ministry for over 30 years! Lectures by Ken Ham are very important for believers, as they help them to become established in the truthfulness of the biblical account of six literal days of creation, which unfortunately is not accepted both in the sinful world and in a number of Christian denominations. It seems inconceivable to them that a vast and complex world appeared in 144 hours. Such things are not done quickly! Ken helps them understand that what is impossible for men is quite possible for God.
He claims there's no contradiction between experimental science and faith. there's a conflict in interpretation of current facts, as no scientist lived in the far away past. … Ken shows the impossibility of the evolutional development of matter from inanimate to living, because such a jump would require a qualitative change and pouring into it a gigantic volume of information which blind chance cannot produce. Evolutional worldview is an unsubstantiated and hopeless faith, and it has even become the theoretical basis for racism. If you do not believe in literal biblical description of the six days of creation how do you believe in the rest? From which chapter then does the narrative start about real events?
… Ham urges to understand the first 11 chapters of Genesis as historical and not as a poetical description of creation. He shows that these accounts give answers to such important questions as the origin of the world, 7-day week, the institution of marriage, imperfection of man, customs of wearing clothes, the promise of the Redeemer, a worldwide flood, a global change of climate, the origin of nations, and the origin of different languages. Without these chapters we would know nothing about our past and would deprive ourselves of the future. After all, creation is foundational to all of Scripture and one who destroys the foundation becomes an apostate from biblical faith.
For the sake of the salvation of those who are perishing from the terrible hypnosis of evolutional atheism, every church and every family should thoughtfully watch these lectures and use the arguments of … [Ken] Ham in their witness as well as give his lectures to their friends and acquaintances so that they could also watch them.
Pastor of Transformation Church, V.S. Ryaguzov
You can find out more about the Foundations DVD series and accompanying study guides on the online store.
We have heard of many churches that are now using this video series for Sunday evening services, home groups, Bible studies, youth groups, etc. The teaching in this series presents the basic messages that AiG wants to get to every Christian, every church, and every church leader.
This series already has had a great impact on many churches in Russia. Please pray this impact continues and increases.

Trying to "Reverse" the Curse
Because of Adam's sin and the resulting judgment of the Curse (Genesis 3), the apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:22, "For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now."
Yes, the whole creation does groan. An example of this "groaning" can be experienced at the Creation Museum, because over time things begin to wear out! Actually, we have professionals on staff who work hard doing maintenance and upgrades so the Creation Museum building and exhibits continue to operate like new.
However, there comes a time when some things just have to be totally renovated. That is why it is important that we charge a realistic museum entrance fee (one that is extremely reasonable for a high-tech facility like ours, especially when compared with similar secular facilities). It not only covers daily running costs but also the ongoing maintenance and the necessary refurbishing that has to take place in such facilities. And of course, we try to do most major repair work during the winter months when there are fewer visitors.
Recently, we had to close the Special Effects Theater for a week. Our facilities staff worked very hard to make repairs and rebuild the various apparatus that make this high-tech theatre work. Over 1.5 million visitors have seen the "Men in White" special effects program at the Creation Museum. Our facilities manager reported the following:
Each seat back cushion in the Theater had to come off to replace the shakers, to repair any water feed hoses, or to adjust or tighten the seat back frames. They have four large bolts and three small screws that hold the cushion to the frame. All of the four bolts suffered from problems that caused them to strip the threads, so that is why we had to drill the holes, tap the holes and replace all four bolts. This took approximately one to two hours to complete per seat. We did not just replace bolts but also drilled and tapped every hole—550 times!
Once the cushion was removed and the bolt holes re-tapped, we then replaced the shaker and/or repaired many of the hoses (that bring water for the spray that shoots out from the seats).
Then we turned our attention to the seat frame bolts that had problems and required four to six inch bolts per two seats replaced.
We then discovered that the power feed wires that activate the shakers had problems in being crushed by the seat stops, so they also had to be pulled out and routed to clear the stops.
The last back row of 21 seats had to be tilted forward to gain access to the bolts and then moved back and forth to replace or repair anything .
We replaced 59 shakers and repaired over 40 hose problems, 20 wire reroutes, and the above bolts issues.
The Special Effects Theater is now as good as new (actually better than new), and ready for the many more people who will be ministered to by the "Men in White" program.
Here are some photographs taken during the major overhaul of the theater.
Once they finished the Special Effects Theater, our facilities team moved on to the "Starting Points" room, where the floor is badly in need of replacing. Here are some photos as they begin this job.
Last year, the Stargazers Planetarium theater had to be totally overhauled. After four years of operation, the projectors failed and had to be replaced with newer technology. That was a $250,000 renovation!
Many people are unaware of the cost of maintaining a facility like the Creation Museum. That is why we need to charge an entrance fee, but for new exhibits, we can only install these if people support them by donations, and we always have projects we are ready to begin once we receive donations to cover the cost.

Winter Jam Partnership
What do Winter Jam, the Creation Museum, and the book Already Gone have in common? Well, God is using all of these resources to reach the hearts of this next generation—and student pastors—all across the country.
Recently, our Creation Museum had an exciting opportunity to partner with Eddie Carswell and the Winter Jam tour (which hosted 580,000 people this past year). As a part of this, we are placing the resources of AiG into the hands of nearly 15,000 student pastors participating in the tour this year. This included our book on why so many young people are leaving the church, Already Gone. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that most of these pastors had visited our Creation Museum (about 90 miles from Louisville).
Just last weekend I was able to share a little about AiG and the Creation Museum with nearly 20,000 people at Winter Jam in Louisville, Kentucky.

In the first photo, I am waiting to go on the stage and briefly speak to the huge crowd.

Being introduced on stage at Winter Jam.

Praying at Winter Jam.

A part of the crowd in Freedom Hall.

Here I am addressing about 150 student pastors at Winter Jam.
We were so grateful to have been given the opportunity to reach out to so many student pastors and young people with our message of biblical authority and to promote the faith-building articles on our website as well as the Bible-centered teaching at the Creation Museum. Even though there are different views of music throughout the church, we praise the Lord that the organizers of this event have such a sincere heart to see young people be won to the Lord and to be equipped with apologetics teaching.
Watch Out for Dinosaurs
There's another event traveling the county right now, but it's one that is not friendly to Christianity. A dinosaur exhibition might be coming to your area soon, so get prepared by reading our lead article about it on our homepage today (with short videos and several photos of the exhibition).

Reaching One Percent of a Nation
To reach one percent of a nation with the message of the truth of God's Word beginning in Genesis—that the history in the Bible is true and the gospel based on that history is true—would be an incredible blessing! And that is what is happening in Bermuda, an island off the east coast of the U.S.
In my home country of Australia, it is estimated that probably around one percent of the population would be truly born-again Christians. I couldn't imagine what could happen if one percent of a nation were equipped to defend the authority of the Word of God against the pagan religion of evolution and millions of years.
Even though Bermuda is a small nation—technically a territory of the UK—with only 65,000 population (and that is when there is an influx of tourists), it has been a blessing to speak to about 650 people at the AiG conference sponsored by Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. They meet in the largest auditorium on the Island (at a public school).
I spoke three times yesterday and received lots of great feedback! Most of the resources we shipped over were purchased Sunday morning, and there was not much left at all after the Sunday evening programs. On Sunday evening I spoke on the topic "One Race, One Blood." I found out that the same sorts of racism and prejudice I see in various places (including some churches) in the USA also exist in Bermuda. There was a real buzz among the people after that session.
Among the many testimonies I received, one man told me that he had read a book that caused him to doubt the Bible, but after listening to the presentation, many of his questions were answered, and he was no longer doubting God's Word.
Here are some photographs taken yesterday.
This is the auditorium Sunday morning.
The Senior Pastor (Gary Simons) introduced me.
People flocked to obtain AiG apologetic books.
At the end of the morning service, the pastor prayed with many of the congregation who came forward in response to a challenge the pastor made to commit themselves before the Lord to pass on that spiritual legacy to the next generation.
I speak again tonight. I'd appreciate your prayers.

Creation Conference in Nepal
Nepal is a small land-locked country between India and China. The nation is known for its mountains—containing eight of the world's ten tallest mountains. Of course, this includes the highest one on earth, called Mount Everest.
Two young men from Nepal attended the All-Asian Creation Conference in Malaysia last year where Dr. Andy McIntosh, Dr. David Crandall, and I (and others) spoke—with about 1,000 people in attendance from 20 countries. These men came and told us that they now wanted to go home and have a creation conference in Nepal. We tried to encourage them but were aware of the huge political and religious obstacles that they would face.
They went home with the prayer of Caleb on their lips, "give me that mountain," as it relates to their homeland and a creation conference.
I am pleased to tell you that in April there will be the first-ever creation conference in Nepal. This conference will be held in Khumaltar, Kathmandu, and may have over 500 in attendance. Dr. Crandall shared with me that in April "the Mountains of Nepal will rejoice with the Words of the Creator."
The photo below is of the two excited young men. I spoke to them a few times at the conference, and they just loved the teaching they heard.
Please pray for Nepal and the upcoming creation conference.

"Lucy" to Take up Residence at Creation Museum
"Lucy" is the name of the well-known supposed ape-like relative of humans. AiG's talented artists and sculptors (Jessie, Stephanie, Ben, and Doug) have been working on a Lucy exhibit that will be installed in the Creation Museum in the next few months.
There will be five copies of the Lucy head on the back side of the exhibit, each finished with different eyes, skin coloration, and hair color/pattern. The teaching point will simply be that nobody knows for sure what Lucy looked like, so the artist projects his beliefs about Lucy onto the viewer simply by his artistic choices. We will probably also display the fragmented skull (casts of what was actually found) with these heads to emphasize how little there really is to go from.
The photos are all in-progress shots. The one that looks like an orangutan (red hair) is Jesse's. The gorilla-like one with black skin is Stephanie's, and the one with more human-like coloration is Ben's take on the classic ape-man. Doug is making a chimp version (with spotty skin and gray hair). They all still have a lot of work to be done on them. The fifth one is yet to be determined. We don't know if we should give it very modern human hair, eyes and skin or make it more fanciful, perhaps with blue skin and hair. Either would be intend to show that the artist can arguably finish Lucy any way he wants. The fossils that are uncovered don't capture that information. Of course, what we believe Lucy to be will be obvious—some sort of chimp. See Dr. David Menton's video on Lucy.
There will also be holographic images associated with the exhibit. It will be quite high-tech.
Here are the photos:
In Bermuda—for Ministry!
Most people think of Bermuda as a vacation spot. Well I am in Bermuda for the weekend to conduct an AiG conference Sunday morning and evening and Monday evening. The program is free, but people have to obtain tickets so they can get a seat. The response has been great! As of this past Thursday, there were not many seats left.

Creation Singer on the Inspirational Country Charts
Many of you have heard of AiG's Buddy Davis! God has gifted him in many ways. He is a taxidermist, a sculptor, an artist, children's workshop leader, speaker, and a singer with several CDs to his credit. The Lord used Buddy and Kay and their collection of dinosaurs (wonderfully sculpted by Buddy) to be an integral part of the vision for the Creation Museum. It was when I met Buddy and Kay around 17 years ago, and saw their dinosaurs, that the vision for the Creation Museum (which began over 30 years ago) began to really become a reality.
On the day I first met Buddy, I saw he had a guitar hanging up in his log cabin. I asked him to sing, and he did so, reluctantly. I told Buddy that the song he sang, "He Make Dreams Out of Nothing," would be sung when the Creation Museum opened. And yes, Buddy sang that song on Memorial Day weekend, 2007, at the official opening of the Creation Museum.
Since that time, Buddy has spoken and sung all around the world. AiG has produced many CDs of his songs—many especially written for children. Buddy personally writes the music and words for nearly all the songs he performs.
Many of you may not know that some of Buddy's songs have been played on radio stations over the years, and recently, a couple of them have made quite an impression on the Inspirational Country Charts. His song "Singing with the Saints" actually went up to #22 on the Inspirational Country Charts.
Another of his songs "The Bible is a Gold Mine" is currently making its way up this inspirational chart.
The following are a few of the stations that are playing this song heavily: KABF in Little Rock, Arkansas; WKAX in Russellville, Alabama; WTYS in Marianna, Florida; KJNP in North Pole, Alaska; KNLG in New Bloomfield, Missouri; WSTH in Fortson, Georgia; WGMA in Springdale, North Carolina; WXML in Upper Sandusky, Ohio; and WSM in Nashville, Tennessee (a huge, well-known station).
I don't know whether you realize it, but it really is quite an honor for Buddy to have the song played on WSM in Nashville. The executive director of the promotions group that sent Buddy's song to radio stations recently wrote the following to Buddy:
I have been meaning to tell you. Congrats on getting on WSM radio here in Nashville on that last tracking report. That was a wonderful compliment. We rarely ever have artists that they like and play, and they are legendary, famous, and huge!!!!
Now keep in mind that artists like Ricky Skaggs, The Isaacs, Dolly Parton, etc. often buy expensive ads in order to get people's attention and to hope that their songs will go high up in the charts. We don't buy such ads and yet Buddy's songs have been doing very well indeed.
And do you know what I love most about Buddy's songs? They are full of great biblical teaching—not the fluff and stuff many songs today have!
You can hear the entire song "The Bible is a Gold Mine" at this link (go to track #8 and listen for free).
Special: You can download Buddy's song for free to listen on your electronic device (and send it to others) at this link.
You can find out more on the online store about Buddy's CDs and the wonderful biblical authority and creation songs composed by Buddy.
Children can learn a lot of what AiG teaches through Buddy's songs like Billions of Dead Things, It's Designed to Do What It Does Do, Were You There? and so on! Make Buddy your kids' favorite singer, and they will learn how to defend their faith and how to put their trust in the Lord Jesus.

"A Great Soul Winning Opportunity"
Recently a group of science students from Bob Jones University visited the Creation Museum. Dr. David Boyd, professor of biology, brought the group and commented he would like to make this a regular part of the students' education. I wish a lot more Christian colleges would do this! The students wrote about their Creation Museum experience, and I wanted you to read some of their feedback. The following is a photo of the group and excerpts of what some wrote:
KZ: I really enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Creation Museum with my Evolution and Origins class. The museum, including its many exhibits and the planetarium show, was all wonderful, but more than that I enjoyed the opportunities to talk with [AiG staff] … I was also very thankful to Mr. Steve Ham for taking us on a tour behind the scenes, and for his willingness to share his heart for his ministry with us.
JW: I appreciated seeing the ministry aspect of the museum probably more than the aesthetic portion. Also, I was impressed with the staff's professionalism that proved that they could stand up and argue scientifically.
KB: Our trip to the Creation Museum was very profitable for me … AiG's firm stand on the truth of the Word of God, their goal to defend the history of the Bible especially concerning the first eleven chapters of Genesis, and their interpretations of science in our world based on the Bible are great encouragements to me as a young earth Creationist. The wonderful Planetarium presentation … not only blew my mind with the vastness of our universe but reminded me how insignificant and worthless I am apart from Christ's saving work. In Christ I have infinite worth because Christ has infinite worth …
AH: The trip was really beneficial. What really helped me the most was seeing that there are intelligent people, with success in various fields, believe in the Creation account. I find it sometimes a little discouraging by how prevalent evolution is and how those that don't believe that is how life came to be are looked down on … I also loved the museum. It was so well done and professional. It does a great job of not only presenting data for Creation but also presenting the gospel very clearly. From this trip, I know have a great interest in returning to spend many more hours analyzing the stuff I didn't get to spend much time on and also to bring other people I know so that they can see the museum. It is a great soul winning opportunity for those that are unsaved and a great display of facts to help those that are saved that are struggling with the Creation-evolution debate.
Bob Jones University is one of the few creationist colleges recommended by AiG and listed on our creationcolleges.com website
2012 IncrediWorld VBS
Recently we held two fun IncrediWorld Vacation Bible School (VBS) workshops here at the Creation Museum. These free, hands-on workshops were attended by dozens of participants from churches as far away as North Carolina! They showed videos that help churches to recruit volunteers and attract kids, taught an actual lesson, played sample songs and song-motions, made handcrafts, and of course, made and ate some great IncrediWorld snacks.
Eddie Lutz, the Answers VBS and Creation Museum representative to the Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky tri-state region, began the hour-and-a-half workshop with an overview of IncrediWorld followed by an actual lesson being taught, a craft, and a Q&A session. Eddie leads VBS in his own church (where he used our Gold Rush VBS last summer). His love for children really helps him to connect with children's ministry leaders.
This is Answers in Genesis' fifth year of creating and publishing a high quality VBS program. We believe kids deserve good answers to their real-life questions. By showing them God's Word is true and the importance of understanding it in today's world, we pray they'll also embrace the salvation message woven throughout each year's VBS!
If you're interested in attending one of these free workshops at the Creation Museum, there is still time to register for either the February 3 or February 4 event. Click here for more information.

Misleading NPR Blog Post
Recently, a Dartmouth College professor wrote a blog post for National Public Radio (NPR) that cited one of our scientists. It is so frustrating to read such blog posts and know that its readers are being led astray by misinformation. As he quoted (or should I say misquoted) AiG researcher Dr. Georgia Purdom, Georgia wrote a blog post in response to this misleading article. She stated the following:
Gleiser states, "The evidence for evolution is overwhelming." He discusses the fossil record and radiometric dating and then talks about "in-your-face evolution" giving the example of antibiotic resistant bacteria. He writes that, ". . . there are creationist scientists who claim that mutation is not the true mechanism of resistance." As I read it I thought, "That's unbelievable, who could that be?" only to discover he thinks it's me!
He quotes from an article I wrote for Answers magazine entitled, "Antibiotic Resistance of Bacteria: An Example of Evolution in Action?" He argues that I think horizontal gene transfer (bacteria swapping DNA) is the only way that bacteria become antibiotic resistant. I honestly have to question if he read the article, because I wrote the following in that article:
Bacteria can gain resistance through two primary ways:
1. By mutation, and
2. By using a built in design feature to swap DNA (called horizontal gene transfer)—bacteria share resistance genes.
I clearly don't argue that swapping DNA is the only way. In fact, I only wrote one paragraph about bacteria swapping DNA following a much lengthier discussion on the role of mutation. Mutation is what results in changes to genes that can then be swapped to gain antibiotic resistance. I have written numerous articles (and focused much of my research) on mutations resulting in change in bacteria, here are just a few:
Observation of Evolution in Bacteria
A Poke in the Eye?
The Role of Genomic Islands, Mutation, and Displacement in the Origin of Bacterial Pathogenicity
A Creationist Perspective of Beneficial Mutations in Bacteria
Gleiser closes the blog with this:
Even though I'm not a believer, I wonder why those who are need to equate God with the hard work of designing people, bacteria, dinosaurs, or some 900,000 known species of insects. . . . Surely there are better ways to find God or other paths toward spiritual meaning in life?
For an omnipotent and omniscient God, creating was not "hard work." He simply spoke and all things came into existence (Genesis 1). He didn't create all the different species that we have today but rather created them according to their kind (for many organisms this is at the "family" level) and designed them with the ability to change and adapt in a post-Fall, post-Flood world leading to our modern species.
And God loved us so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us (John 3:16–17) so that our relationship with Him could be restored. There are not "better ways" or "other paths." Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." May we pray that Dr. Gleiser and other scientists like him will come to the knowledge of the truth before it is too late.
Dr. Purdom also made other comments about what this physicist wrote, so I encourage you to read her entire blog post. Also, we mentioned this poor NPR blog post in last weekend's News to Note.
It is sad to see how evolutionists mislead people and don't accurately represent what creationist's say. But we praise the Lord we can use the technology of the internet and other modern technologies to get the correct information out to people, so please spread it around!
Over 9,000 in New Jersey
It was thrilling to find that the total attendance at all sessions at Calvary Chapel in Old Bridge, New Jersey, from Saturday evening through Sunday/Monday was over 9,000! We believe this would include at least 7,500 different people (including hundreds of kids), realizing that some people may have gone to more than one session.
Here are some photographs taken at various times during the conference.

Thanks to our fantastic volunteers.

Lots of kids for the school sessions.
Kids and teens loved the sessions and enjoyed the creationist resources—see the following photos:

The auditorium was full most sessions (even overflow crowds for two of the sessions).

Did Jesus Tell a Lie?
Jesus is the Son of God; He is the truth and the Word. If Jesus as the God-man told a lie, then the Bible is not the inerrant Word of God. If Jesus told a lie, then the Christian faith has no foundation, and the Bible would have to be discarded!
What a situation we are in today when an academic who claims to be a Christian would essentially teach that Jesus told a lie!
This scholar (Dr. Peter Enns) is now a professor at a supposed Christian university (Eastern University in Philadelphia). He has written a book—The Evolution of Adam—in an attempt to influence the church in which he states there was no literal Adam or Eve and no literal Fall into sin. But even more than this, he essentially accuses Jesus Christ of lying and being a sinner! Yes, he really does.
Recently, two AiG writers and researchers wrote an article about a statement Peter Enns made in The Evolution of Adam. Enns rejects Moses as the author of the Pentateuch, and in dealing with Bible passages where Jesus directly attritubes the authorship of these books to Moses, Enns states, "Rather, Jesus here reflects the tradition that he himself inherited as a first-century Jew and that his hearers assumed to be the case" (Peter Enns, The Evolution of Adam: What the Bible Does and Doesn't Say about Human Origins (Grand Rapids, MI: Brazos Press, 2012), p. 153.).
The AiG authors then stated the following:
The idea advanced by Dr. Enns here is known as the accommodation theory and was first advanced in the eighteenth century by Johann Semler, the father of German rationalism. The accommodation theory is very popular among liberal theologians and basically asserts that Jesus accommodated (accepted and taught) the various ideas of His day, even if they were wrong.5 Allegedly, since Jesus was primarily concerned with spiritual matters, He didn't bother to correct some of their false historical or scientific beliefs because doing so might have distracted from His real message.
The AiG authors also observed the following:
So what's the big deal if Jesus accommodated the errors of His day? Well, if Jesus taught error, then He would have lied to His listeners, in which case He would have been a sinner. If He unwittingly taught error, then He would have misled His followers, making Him a false teacher. Either option leaves us with a Jesus who is sinful and less than God. If Jesus had sinned, then He could not have been the spotless Lamb who appeased God's wrath by His sacrificial death on the Cross, because He would have needed to die for His own sins. If Jesus did not die for our sins, then we are still in our sins and are headed for an eternity in the lake of fire.
Every Christian needs to read this web article to understand this shocking attack on the Word of God. I urge you to read this AiG web commentary at the link below and send this article to your pastors, elders, deacons, and as many Christians as you can! God's people need to be aware of this attack on the Christian faith in a book published by Brazos Press—a division of a well known Christian book publisher (the Baker Publishing Group).
Go to this link to read the article.
