J.Crew And Kate Spade To Foster The Next Big Fashion Tech Startups
A new accelerator, New York Fashion Tech Lab, offers mentorships with top retailers for companies working at the intersection of fashion, retail, and technology.
"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only," Coco Chanel once said. "Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." Today, the truth of Chanel's statement is particularly evident in the burgeoning intersection of fashion and technology. What with bras that tweet, Warby Parker-designed Google Glass, and an app that hunts down that cool bag you saw on the subway, the way we shop and dress ourselves increasingly relies on the digital.

An Android app is still in the works.
When IFTTT launched its iPhone app last summer, it alluded to an Android version in the works. But another project has taken precedence due to the sheer number of user requests the company has received: an iPad app, which is now available in Apple's App Store.

Vintage Science Illustrations Come To Life In This Trippy Music Video
The music video to Fanfarlo's new track "Cell Song" is like a fever dream in science class.
Growing up in the '80s, the surrealist illustrations of vintage science textbooks always fascinated to me, but this animated music video takes the cake. A collage of drawings from old schoolbooks of 50 years ago, it's like the dreams you might have after sniffing glue in science class, then passing out facedown in your textbook.

Inside The Redesign: Why Spotify Went Black
Spotify's new redesign makes it the movie theater of music apps. When the lights dim, the art becomes the experience. Michelle Kadir, director of product development at Spotify, walks us through its biggest redesign ever.
For devoted Spotify users, what the service offered in music selection, it lacked in the design department. The desktop client, especially, feels clunky, difficult, and overly complicated. There's way more clicking around than there has to be. But for the first time since its initial launch in 2006, Spotify has done a major design overhaul of its desktop and mobile clients, which will roll out to users starting today. It's a welcome change.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra Faces Congress Over Deadly Ignition Switch
The company says it is completing an internal investigation into a dangerous part that has caused 2.6 million vehicles to be recalled.
General Motors is in big trouble. After rising from the ashes of bankruptcy in 2009, the American car manufacturer is facing its most embarrassing crisis to date. To summarize: a faulty ignition switch caused power to cut out in millions of its vehicles, including the Chevy Cobalt, 2.6 million of which have been recalled so far. People have been hurt, and 13 people may have died in connection with the part. And the exact scope of the damage won't be known until plaintiffs get a final count as the claims come trickling in.

This Is The Russian Nesting Doll Of Kitchen Gadgets
In one space-saving design, the Bin 8 features a juicer, a peeler, a grater, a measuring cup, and more.
The modern kitchen has no shortage of gadgets--the juicers, the squeezers, the zesters, the mashers, and so on--but what it is short on, more often than not, is space. Perhaps that's why the matryoshka is taking over the kitchen. We've already got nesting bowls and nesting measuring cups, and now we have the Bin 8, a clever assortment of eight nesting kitchen tools.

Nendo Redesigns The Classic Camper Shoe
The Japanese design company puts its spin on Camper's popular Beetle shoe.
Camper officially launched its shoe company in Spain in 1975, but its shoe-making DNA goes back over a century: The company's founder is the grandson of a Spanish cobbler. When Camper first opened, it took that foundation in traditional cobbling to a new level and touted a different kind of shoe, one that was lightweight and had punchy graphics. That design philosophy continues to prevail today and Camper's marquee designs--the Vela, the Peu, and the Beetle--have remained consistently sporty over the years. As a result, the brand boasts a loyal following of die-hard Camper wearers.
