Trump’s Justice Department sues Michigan and Hawaii over plans to take Big Oil to court

The unprecedented suits are an attempt to stop the states from taking climate action on their own.

The U.S. Justice Department on Wednesday filed lawsuits against Hawaii and Michigan over their planned legal action against fossil fuel companies for harms caused by climate change, claiming the states’ actions conflict with federal government authority and President Donald Trump’s energy dominance agenda.

Kohl’s stock price is up almost 10% after CEO Ashley Buchanan was fired for unethical behavior

The retailer said Buchanan’s termination was ‘unrelated to the company’s performance,’ which has declined amid slower sales.

Shares of Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE: KSS) were up nearly 10% on Thursday after the company fired CEO Ashley Buchanan after just four months on the job. It appointed board chair Michael Bender as interim chief executive officer effective immediately.

McDonald’s reports a significant sales decline in the U.S. as anxious customers pull back on spending

The burger giant saw its worst U.S. sales drop since the pandemic. CEO Chris Kempczinski says customers are “grappling with uncertainty.”

McDonalds released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2025 early this morning. According to the report, U.S. comparable sales decreased by 3.6% from the previous year, primarily driven by reduced guest counts.

Kohl’s fires CEO after investigation finds conflicts of interest

The news comes nearly four months after Buchanan, who had been previously the CEO of arts and crafts chain Michaels, took over the job on January 15.

Kohl’s has terminated its new CEO Ashley Buchanan after an investigation determined that he directed the retailer to engage in vendor transactions that involved undisclosed conflicts of interest.
