Editing client's screenplay wins film festival
The screenplay
of a long-time editing client has taken first place in an international film festival. Jana Meador's "Crossroads of Mortals" in February won "Best Unproduced Screenplay 2017" at the Catharsis International Film Festival in Belgium and now has the chance to have the script produced and filmed by the Catharsis production company. The screenplay is based on Meador's novel "Of Thorns, Roses and a Devil's Lie," which I edited in 2015. The novel and screenplay tells the story of wildlife photographer Margot Smith, who when traveling on assignment to remote Lingit, Alaska, sets on a collision course the lives of four people and a decades-long secret haunting them. Can a tragic event from the distant past destroy their lives in the present, or will the human spirit prevail? The book is available online.

Five Great Quotations about Writing Process
I would hurl
words into this darkness and wait for an echo, and if an echo sounded, no matter how faintly, I would send other words to tell, to march, to fight, to create a sense of hunger for life that gnaws in us all. - Richard Wright
The writers silent mind is a period of intermission before orchestrating a symphony of words. - Khaled Talib
Theres a magic to letting a story and its people unfold with witchcraft and late nights and walks in the woods. You dont lead a story. You follow it. - Kate Inglis
Writing is rewriting. The rough draft is just that. You cant polish what you havent written. - Vincent H. ONeil
Getting completely lost, coming unstrung and unbound, arriving at unknown and unexpected places, is, for me, a critical part of writing. - Louise DeSalvo

Five Great Quotations about Writing Talent
At one
time I thought the most important thing was talent. I think now that the young man or the young woman must possess or teach himself, training himself, in infinite patience, which is to try and to try until it comes right. He must train himself in ruthless intolerance - that is to throw away anything that is false no matter how much he might love that page or that paragraph. The most important thing is insight, that is to be - curiosity- to wonder, to mull, and to muse why it is that man does what he does, and if you have that, then I don't think the talent makes much difference, whether you've got it or not. - William Faulkner
Its none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way. - Ernest Hemingway
The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
...a writer is the worst judge of his own work. - Ilsa J. Bick
Not everybody thought they could be a dentist or an automobile mechanic but everybody knew they could be a writer. - Charles Bukowski

There are no great subjects for the creative writer; there are only the singular details of a single human life. - Richard Selzer

Long-time editing client publishes latest work
A long-time
editing client recently published his latest spiritual work, "Cussing Christians." The short tome asks a simple question: Should Christians swear? The answer, Jetton argues, carries great consequences. The book explores what the Bible has to say about the words we use and recounts some real-life examples focusing on how the language we use affects others. If you have ever struggled with being a good Christian influence yet coming across like a goody two-shoes with co-workers and friends, then this book is for you! "Cussing Christians" is available online.

Five Great Quotes about Writing as Self-Discovery
The writer
must wade into life as into the sea, but only up to the navel. - Gustave Flaubert
In a very real sense, the writer writes in order to teach himself, to understand himself. - Alfred Kazin
Creative writing was not a form of psychotherapy, in ways both sublime and ridiculous, it clearly was, precisely that. - A.S. Byatt
Writing fiction is a solitary occupation but not really a lonely one. The writers head is mobbed with characters, images and language, making the creative process something like eavesdropping at a party for which youve had the fun of drawing up the guest list. Loneliness usually doesnt set in until the work is finished, and all the partygoers and their imagined universe have disappeared. - Hilma Wolitzer
Writing became such a process of discovery that I couldnt wait to get to work in the morning: I wanted to know what I was going to say. - Sharon OBrien

Five Great Quotations about Novels
On the whole,
I think you should write biographies of those you admire and respect, and novels about human beings who you think are sadly mistaken. - Penelope Fitzgerald
Writing a novel is actually searching for victims. As I write I keep looking for casualties. The stories uncover the casualties. - John Irving
Time passes, as the novelist says. The single most useful trick of fiction for our repair and refreshment: the defeat of time. A century of family saga and a ride up an escalator can take the same number of pages. Fiction sets any conversion rate, then changes it in a syllable. The narrators mother carries her child up the stairs and the reader follows, for days. But World War I passes in a paragraph. I needed 125 pages to get from Labor Day to Christmas vacation. In six more words, heres spring. - Richard Powers
It is only a novel...or, in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best-chosen language. - Jane Austen
The hard part about writing a novel is finishing it. - Ernest Hemingway
