Baby, Take a Bow

Two New Books for 2017
A couple of new books are coming this spring. Baby, Take a Bow, is the fifth in the Grace Street series. When Camden’s friend Rufus’s ex-wife Bobbi is murdered and her baby is missing, David Randall has to juggle several different mysteries to solve the case. Camden also encounters a restless spirit trapped within a mirror, and another ghost haunting the hot dog restaurant.
The Monsters of Spiders’ Rest is the third in the Three Worlds series of fantasy novels. Flickfoot, an intelligent spider, and his spider friends Plinks and Jellyroll are alarmed when their creator’s grandson, Tylin, shows up to take over their house. But there are much more dangerous monsters in the forests, monsters who plan to invade the neighboring town of Specter. Can Flickfoot convince Ty of the danger? Can he even convince him that the spiders are his friends?

A Small Holiday
My new fantasy novel, A Small Holiday, is now available!
Belinda Banner promised her mother she’d look after her younger brother, Jay, but when a well-dressed stranger named Ivor comes to her door with a tempting job offer, she sets aside her normal caution. She regrets her decision when she and Jay are carried off through a blinding light to Ivor’s world of Belfair where Jay is expected to play the lead in an elaborate play for the annual festival. Jay is immediately delighted by the director of the play, a round yellow blob of self-importance named Parvan, who has been banished by his people to Belfair to learn humility. In Jay, Parvan sees a way to win his way back home, but he and Belinda clash.
Desperate to return to her world, Belinda insists Ivor take them back. He says he can’t predict the doorways of light. While Jay is rehearsing, Belinda helps Parvan’s neighbor, a handsome young man named Martin, out of a serious depression by finding his living musical reeds. Martin encourages Belinda to dance, a talent she has set aside in order to care for Jay.
Yet there is something sinister about Ivor, and no one in this peaceful world believes her warnings. And Jay becomes more and more involved with the exciting opportunities this new world affords.
A Small Holiday is the second in the Three Worlds series from Silver Leaf Books.

New Review
I try not to pay too much attention to my reviews, good or bad, but this time, I’m making an exception. Evil Turns, the latest Madeline Maclin Mystery, will be published this May, but already has a good review from Kirkus. Kirkus is a book review magazine that’s been around since the 1930s, and it’s not always easy to get a review, especially a favorable one. As a former librarian, I often used Kirkus to determine if a book was suitable for my library, so when I received word about the review, I had a little Twilight Zone moment. And I have to admit with another Madeline book and several more Grace Street mysteries in the works, it’s nice to have validation.

Butterfly Waltz Book Trailer
June 10, 2015
Coming This September!
I’m happy to announce that after many years my fantasy novel Butterfly Waltz is being published by Silver Leaf Books. Reluctantly dragged along to the countryside by his tabloid reporter friend Jake Banner to investigate rumors of talking flowers, Desmond Fairweather, a struggling young musician meets Kalida, a mysterious young woman who says she is magic. Des will have to put aside his fears of all things magical to rescue Kalida from her people, evil beings who want her to return to their world and a life of conquest and darkness.
Those of you who have read my Madeline Maclin mystery novels will recognize Des as the older brother of Madeline’s husband, Jerry Fairweather.
My beautiful cover is by Francois Thisdale, who also created the covers for the Grace Street Series.
