Kids’ novels set in British Columbia, Canada

The organization Children’s Writers and Illustrators of British Columbia recently compiled a list of BC-created books set in BC locations. Oops: Broken arm

On vacation in Budapest and Vienna… tripped over a tram track. The good news is no tram was coming. Bad news is I’ll be taking a short break from writing

Hello, Missouri educators!

Educators! Time to save the date for the Write to Learn Conference: Feb. 15-17, 2018. It’s at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri, and I will be offering two seminars there on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018. That also makes me available for school and library talks in the region and it’s not too early […]

Novel complete, vacation overdue!

On the wings of having just completed a new young-adult adventure novel, I joined my husband for a vacation hiking the Joshua Tree National Park, California for several days. The cacti were in full bloom, the temperatures were perfect and it was my first time visiting this amazing place.

Finishing a novel

What do I do when I finish a novel (as I just have)? 1. Clean my office. 2. Do all the chores that have piled up  as I wrote my last few chapters (during that last dash to the finish line, I am aware of very little else around me!). 3. Conduct a final polishing […]

Writing a novel, Stage II

I used to have a roommate who was a “colorist”; as a young artist intern, she colored-in the black and white artwork of a senior artist. Recently, it occurred to me that Stage II of writing a novel is kind of like that, at least for me. When I finish a first draft, I make […]

Travel photos

Priscilla Fox (Pam's sis), Esther Tuttle (Pam's niece), Pam Withers Pam Withers and son Jeremy in Montreal
Just returned from Montana (where my sister and I did a road trip to visit our niece Esther) and Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa, where I did school/library talks and visited my grad-student son. Montana is beautiful and 3 days with my son was GREAT.

Whirlwind tour

Whew! Just back from doing Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa  in less than a week (even did a presentation in Tsawwassen, BC early this morning after my late-night flight got in!).
Thanks to all the libraries, schools and librarians that supported me, including Hillcrest Library and Zion Heights Junior High School in Toronto, St. Laurent and Greenboro branches in Ottawa, and Pebble Hill School in Tsawwassen.
Thanks to Shannon, David and Liam for a quick visit.
As for Montreal, the highlight (besides a grand tour of the city itself) was spending three days with my son (a grad student), and seeing Cirque du Soleil with him, a very special treat and worth every penny! https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/canada/montreal/show
 Photos to come soon!
