Did I tell you about #HadleyRaydeen?

Did I tell you about Hadley? No. So…

LOL Banner 2

Picture it (Golden Girls head nod) late 2009 early 2010. I was a young author with my first opportunity to publish. Many people came into my life. Good and bad. I had to figure out who was who. On the scene popped Hadley. She helped me with one of my first published works. And looky here. She’s back again helping me in my new self-published life.

It amazes me how the people I’ve met on my writing journey continue to pop in and out of my life with such love and support!

Thank you!

Check out the trailer here.

Swirling the Big Easy Readers and Author Event

I can’t believe it’s been two years! But, I love this event and all of the wonderfully beautiful readers and authors who attend. So, of course that means that I must be a part of it again!

Creole Nights 150

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can find out more here: Swirling the Big Easy on FaceBook.

Also, as part of our celebration for this event, I’ve joined with nine other fantabulous authors! We’ve put together a little light reading for you. About 800 pages of fantastical fun!

My contribution to the anthology is called: When the Beautiful Awake: Thakathi Awakening!  So, the answer to you question is yes, my book is a prequel to my American Civil War Series. I thought it would be fun to give you a little of the backstory on the Thakathi. It seems as though they wanted to tell you a little bit about who they were as well :-)!

When in Rome…

Eat lots of delicious Water Buffalo Mozarella, pizza from a baker, and pasta. Then, walk. Walk the streets until your legs tire beneath you.

I must admit that I’m a tiny bit in love with Rome. I cannot imagine living in a place of such ancient beauty. I am absolutely in awe. What secrets are held within the walls of the Vatican or St. Peter’s Cathedral?

Say Cheese @CharJGordon

It has been a while since I hosted anyone on my blog, and so what better way to kick it back off than with my old friend, Charmaine Gordon!

Charmaine is always working on something even when she tells me she’s not :-)

Here’s the blurb for Charmaine’s latest:

Chef SurpriseOne night, she ran. For the bus to freedom and a new life. She had a plan, and a small box of cash.

With grit and determination, the young girl learned more than lessons at nursing college, the first part of her plan.

Someday, she would become a top chef, but for now, she’d claw her way up the ladder.

There is payback for every crime, and sometimes the payback is more than satisfactory.

Traipsing Through Europe

You guys know I love to travel, and ohh sweetness, if I could travel and write, life would be that ultimate dream come true :-) But, alas, let’s refocus…

Writing, for me, is about exploring new worlds and possibilities: love, history, paranormal, etc. But, how do you continue to tell new and different stories, if you don’t explore. Exploring is what keeps it interesting, isn’t it?

Walking the streets of Paris, Rome and London had my mind filled with all kinds of thoughts. Namely, uhh,

IMG_1956

how do  I move to Paris, Rome or London :-) I’m just saying. Being somewhere that is not your norm always makes them seem much more romantic, right. Well, at least it does for me.  Who wouldn’t understand how someone could fall in love walking down down Leicester Square?

The magic I feel seeping into my veins when  I travel and visit new places is what  I want to be able to fill the pages of my stories with. I want readers to close the book, and feel as if they’d just returned from a beautiful trip. Be it geographical or emotional.

Life is full of amazing and wonderful places, I hope to see as many as possible. And I’ll continue to tell you guys all about it in the pages of the stories that I write.

Is It Possible To Fall In Love In War?

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00022]I’ve never lived during a time of true war. Although times in my country are tenuous at this moment, we are still living our lives. And with continued resistance, we will continue to fight for normalcy in our lives.

But, during The American Civil War, families were ripped apart. Brothers against brother. Fathers against sons. Cousins against cousins. I cannot imagine what living in that time would have meant to women such as myself. Where did we fit in the war? We were both property and free. We were lied to and abused. Every atrocity that could afflict a woman of color did.

My series tackles that issue. I decided not to allow the history of American disappear from my story-telling. Instead I wanted to make it an intricate part of the story that I wanted to tell.

If you read Run For Freedom, you know how the story begins, now you can see how it continues in Sojourner: The Journey To A New Beginning.

Check out an excerpt here.

Words and Wine @AngelaKayAustin #MemphisBlackArtsAlliance

You guys know some of what I’m going to share with you in this post, but maybe not all of it.

As a child, books were a way for me to learn, as a young woman they were a place of solace, and now books are how I do all of this: learn, explore, escape, and so much more.

When I tell people that I write Women’s Fiction and Romance, people always feel confident they know what Romance is, but there’s always someone who asks, “What is Women’s Fiction?”

To be honest, I don’t think I quite knew until I began to write and submit. I submitted my stories to publishers completely thinking that they were Romance, but soon learned that there are clearly defined lines.

So, where do I fall. Squarely on the line :-) Ha!

I write because I love telling stories. I self-pub because I love telling stories. I love telling stories about every day women who are on their own journey. That essentially is what Women’s Fiction is all about. Although Romance might be a type of Women’s Fiction, along with Chick Lit and Mainstream Fiction. Women’s Fiction is not a type of Romance. Did that make it clearer?

Women’s Fiction is a story about the female protagonist. It’s about her journey: emotional crisis. It may or may not include a love story, and it will end positively. However, Romance is all about the Happily Ever After (HEA), well that is if it’s not Romantic Suspense :-)

So, now that we’ve solved that problem. What about the whole self-pub, traditional pub, vanity press pub, small press pub, digital-first print pub? What about marketing? And how do you promote?

Now that I’ve got you thinking, why not come out and join me and my friends: Jae Henderson and Laura T. Johnson, to learn more.
