I just saw nine episodes of Game of Thrones in one night. (Updated)

Add the season premiere I saw in May and that means I am done with the series. And I'm alive! Even if many of the major characters are not. Quick reactions (I'm sleepy): 1. My love for Peter Dinklage/Tyrion Lannister is undimmed since the first episode. What a voice! What panache! Appropriately, he gets the [...]

Appropriately, he gets the best lines. 2. The series is much better-written than the books. Confession: I hurled the first book across the room unfinished. [...]

Auntie Janey's Old Fashioned Agony Column # 20: If you beg him to come back I will hunt you down and bitch-slap you.

Warning: This post is illustrated with a video featuring men dancing with no shirts on. Dear Auntie Janey, I've been seeking advice from support groups and other so-called relationship experts about this matter. However, nothing seems to help me out. You see, it's been more than a month since my worst nightmare happened. My boyfriend [...]

How ordinary people become monsters or heroes

Here is one of M.C. Escher's symmetry drawings. Look at the white spaces and you see angels. Look at the dark spaces and you see devils. It's like humans. 'Normal' people turn into monsters. The person you least expect to do something courageous becomes a hero. How does this happen? The American psychologist Philip Zimbardo [...]

Jessica Rules TV Ep 5: Super-short story

Yesterday I had a photo shoot for the Philippine Star. Jay Lozada did my hair and make-up; it took 3 hours. The shoot at Blow-Up Babies took three hours—half an hour posing, two and a half shooting the breeze with Quark, Erwin and Adel. When I got home I was going to take the face [...]
