Erik Pontoppidan the younger was a Danish Lutheran pastor. He was the bishop of Bergen, Norway (then ruled by Denmark), 1747-1755. Erik was influenced by the Pietist movement and was a prolific author. His most influential work was an explanation of Luhter's smaller catechism ( Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism, which all school Norwegian school children learned until the middle of the 20th century.
