Crystal Creek series update

Indulgence Row is getting a new look & a new series name!

Indulgence Row originally started out with the idea of women turning an older home community into a fun shopping district. But as I’ve been invited to participate in various anthologies, I’ve kept my novellas set in Crystal Creek. Often they are about side characters or events from the Indulgence Row books. To make it easier for my readers, I’ve decided to rebrand the entire series.

Any novel/novella set in Crystal Creek will now all be in the Crystal Creek series. The book titles are all being rebranded & recovered as well. Here’s a quick guide with the books in order:

#1 – Confessions to the Girl Next Door (Laura & Zack) This novella is the intro to the Crystal Creek gang.

#2 – Crazy for the Sweet Confections Baker (Rachel & Graydon – formerly titled Sweet Confections) RONE AWARD for Best Sweet Contemporary Romance

#3 – Saving Dr. Weston Blake (Josephine & Weston – formerly titled Origami Girl) This novella is based off of the Crystal Creek Children’s Hospital fundraiser that Rachel & Graydon attended in Crazy for the Sweet Confections Baker.

#4 – A Best Friend’s Guide to Love (Charlee & Peter – formerly titled Love Under Construction)

#5 – How to Woo a Billionaire in Ten Days (Penny & Mac) This novella is set during Graydon’s bachelor party in Daytona Beach, Florida.

I’m so excited for this new cohesive series! I absolutely L-O-V-E the new cover designs. Didn’t Wonderstruck Books do an amazing job with them? I’ve also seen a sneak peek for the next three cover designs in the series – and I’m just itching to get the books written so they can be shared with you, too!

Happy reading!

October 21, 2020

Covid Blues. Covid Blessings.

It's been seven long months since Covid invaded my life.  It was supposed to be the beginning of Spring break 2020. We had fun surprise vacation plans for our family. We had purchased plane tickets to bring home our college daughter for a long weekend and I was sooo freaking excited to surprise the rest of the family! Instead it was a chaotic mess of school being canceled, canceling plane tickets, renting a van and finding emergency child care so we could drive across the country to pack up and bring our oldest daughter home from college, and worrying about our son who was on a band trip in Florida. That was just the first weekend.  Then came the anxiety that took away my ability to sleep. Oh, and all the new mama duties. My anxiety was "pushed" to the side as I concentrated on helping my college student get set up to finish her semester from home, filtering the news my kids had access to, and constantly re-evaluating my family's mental health. All while my personal mental health spiked. Making masks. Oh my heck, we made a bunch of masks! And all the early morning trips to Walmart! It was the only time we could hope to find toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or Clorox wipes. I tried writing - hahahahaha. My brain definitely wasn't functioning on that level. TV shows didn't help. Exercise . . . well, I never was super fond of running. Oof.  Rescue came in the form of home projects.  Just prior to the Covid shut-downs, we had refinanced our home with the intention of hiring businesses to replace flooring, paint everything, and re-do the kitchen. At the time, there was a possible job transfer on the table and we wanted to get everything prepped in case we needed to sell quickly. The company put all moves on hold. That was a blessing. My hubby suggested that perhaps I'd like to focus on the home repairs. That ended up being my saving grace.  Can I just tell you how satisfying it is to rip out hardwood floors? I was totally channeling my inner-Charlee from Love Under Construction. All the old, yucky water-stained hardwoods came out and new flooring went in. I got the kids involved and we remodeled the entire main floor from April through August. I even set up home MTC for my daughter in July and sent her off in August. Home repairs were good for working through all of that angst too.  September was all about setting up the kids for school and running the Storymakers & Indie Author Hub Writers Conference. Everything is still all virtual - school, conferences, etc. And now it's October. And all I want to do is . . .  Go to a store just to hang out and browse. Oh, and touch things. Lots of things to just feel the texture of the product. Smooth china. Soft, snuggly bedding. The various textures of home decor at Hobby Lobby.  Go to see a movie at the AMC theatre, specifically in one of the dine-in theatres with the semi-comfortable recliners, a big bucket of extra extra butter popcorn and a giamongous vanilla coke. Eat out at a restaurant. Not grab take out and eat it in the car for a date night or take dinner home for the family. Like actually go into the restaurant and let them all serve me. Unlimited chips and salsa, yummy yummy food I didn't have to cook, and no clean up for the mama. Sigh.  Travel. Oh man. I sooo miss traveling. Getting on an airplane. Hiking a mountain. Enjoying the sound of the ocean. Sight-seeing. Browsing museums. All the things.   Hugs. I really, really, really miss hugging my friends. I mean, I super miss seeing my friends. Social media is the closest I get to them these days. But what I really miss is that happy moment you reconnect with a friend and you give him/her a big squishy hug. Ah. It's the happiest feeling.   The list could go on and on.  So yes, I have the Covid Blues. And it's totally okay to have the blues. It's pretty darn normal actually. And I'm honest about it with my kids, because they need to know that it's okay to feel down about all the things they're missing too. But you know what else we talk about? The things we like about Covid. We discovered my kids actually enjoy remote school classes. Don't get me wrong, they'd prefer to be at school because, hello, friends. But what they don't miss is all the drama and bullying that happens at school. They love to learn and have awesome remote teachers through our school district. So blessings for that.  We've had a chance to remember that we actually enjoy being together as a family. I mean, we did know that, but middle school/high school/college/church missions have kept us so freaking busy, the opportunities for family time really just happened during vacations. And man, Covid created on super crazy long summer vacation. And we actually liked that part of it. We did lots of walking, setting family goals, reading the scriptures together, lots and lots of board game and video game marathons. LOL. And thank goodness for Amazon. We bought a ton of books since the libraries were closed.  We got to be a part of Sister Ferguson's home MTC. That was so much fun! We loved hearing about the things she was learning, her district, and hearing her share her love for the Savior each day. What a blessing we will treasure forever.  What I'm grateful for the most is that so far we've been safe. We've been masking, social distancing, and doing the best we can to stay healthy. That's not to say we won't get Covid. It's a virus and there's nothing you can do to completely stop such a teeny tiny menace. We just do what we can to stay as safe and healthy as possible. I've seen so many friends get sick. Some who have recovered, and some who have died, leaving giant gaping holes in their families' lives.  So while there are so many things I miss and am super yearning to do, I'm praying for patience. I'm praying to focus on the blessings and not the challenges. I'm praying for safety, comfort, and peace for me, for my family, and for my community.  I'm praying for all those things for you, too.

After a hiatus involving marriage and children, she's continued putting pen to paper. With the advent of the computer she found the keyboard much more to her liking! When she's not writing, she's painting (see her illustrations in Sorry, the Stork Takes No Returns) or playing with grandchildren. She's happily married to her wonderful husband of over 30 years, has seven children, four grandchildren, too many cats and two dogs. Her greatest desire is to spread happiness in her books.

Once Upon a Wish by Danyelle Ferguson - Release Day Happiness!

Happy book birthday to my new release, Once Upon a Wish. This book birthday is extra special, as it marks my 10th published book! #HappyDance

A few years ago (I'm not divulging the exact number), I spent my senior year of high school as an exchange student in France. I lived on the coast, near the port of La Rochelle. The towers at the port marked my very favorite spot. I loved the cobblestone streets, the gorgeous architecture, and most of all, to look across the ocean, knowing that my family in Pennsylvania was just on the other side.

As a writer, one of my goals has been to write a book set in La Rochelle, France - and Once Upon a Wish made that dream come true. It's true that "Every dream fulfilled begins with a wish."

Be careful what you wish for . . .

Delphine Baudry wished to be a best-selling author, but now instead of celebrating and jumping into her next novel, she's frozen with fear. What if she turns out to be a one-hit-wonder? What if all her new fans hate the next book? To top it all off, she can't even discuss the situation with her favorite brainstorming partner, her mother, who is losing her memory to Alzheimer's. Taking a cue from some teens tossing Euros into a fountain, Delphine gives into some whimsy and wishes for her next book plot.

Jean-Paul Chassériau wished to start an online marketing company in La Rochelle. Now the real work begins. Feeling pressure to live up to his father's name in traditional marketing, Jean-Paul has a million ideas but no clients. When he finds a funky old Franc lodged between cobblestones near a fountain, there was only one thing to do. Make a wish.

When their coins collide, Delphine and Jean-Paul's wishes become intertwined, changing the course of their futures, and teaching them that wishes are sometimes fulfilled in unexpected ways.

Happy book birthday to Rachelle Christensen! I'm so excited to celebrate the release of her 19th book! If you are fascinated with the challenges of the WWII time period, then you will love Carve Me a Melody!

He hesitated only half a second before lowering his head. There was something there, behind his eyes, in his soul. Something that seemed familiar to Sophie. She didn’t know Leland, but she recognized that haunted look in his eyes. He had lost someone. He had weathered the storm and still manned his ship, sailing forward through life.

Carve Me a Melody Back cover blurb:

World War II has ended but the scars of the war have carved deep grooves in Sophie Wright’s heart. Now a widow with two young children, she returns home to Aspen Falls and meets Leland Halverson, a handsome carpenter who appears interested in her, but afraid of a relationship.
Leland wishes he was worthy of the beautiful Sophie, and he adores her two children, but his past still haunts him. Sophie knows that Leland fell apart after his little girl died and his wife left him, but she doesn’t know the real reason why.
Meanwhile, David Alexander, a decorated bomber pilot has returned to Aspen Falls, and Sophie catches his eye. Confused by the two vastly different choices of men, Sophie searches for answers from a heart that has betrayed her before.
When Sophie discovers a message inside a music box that Leland once owned, the pieces start to fit together. The enchanting melody urges her to share the secrets of her heart so that she can understand his. Leland knows the tune from the music box well and if he can find the courage, he’ll carve a melody for Sophie from the solid wood surrounding his heart.

Book Spotlight & Giveaway: Shatter by Nikki Trionfo

I am so excited about Nikki Trionfo's new book, Shatter! If you love YA and an intriguing mystery, then this book is totally for you! Keep reading for the back cover blurb, a short excerpt, and even a fun giveaway! Happy reading - Danyelle

Blurb:“We never knew there could be people in the orchard. Dangerous people.”When a mysterious explosion kills her sister, Salem becomes convinced the death was no accident--it was a conspiracy. But no one else at her high school believes her, and all she has so far are theories and clues. With Carrie's killers still out there, Salem's not sure who she can trust. If she can't she prove she’s right before it’s too late, the conspiracy might take another life—hers.

Author Q and ADoesn't Shatter sound awesome? I'm here with author Nikki Trionfo, talking about her newly released YA murder mystery.

Q: Thank you for coming onto my blog today. What was your favorite part of writing Shatter?

A: To be honest, learning about my own prejudices was my favorite part. I won’t give away too much to avoid spoilers, but I will say one of the characters was originally supposed to be a villain. About a quarter of the way into the book, I ached for him the way I had ached for my trouble students as a teacher. I felt like I understood why he made so many bad choices. I realized that as author I had written a plot that didn’t allow him to ever make positive changes in his life. I believe in positive change. So I tweaked the premise of the book and rewrote a lot. A lot. But it was worth it. I hope real teens know they have a chance to change if they fight for it.

Q: Okay, be honest. Every author wants their book to be a movie. What actress who you pick to play Salem?
A: It's so true! If I could go back in time, I'd pick a young Kristen Bell! She played Veronica in Veronica Mars, which inspired Shatter. These days, maybe Sabrina Carpenter. My 10-year-old loves her.

Q: Before you go, can you give us an excerpt of Shatter?

A: But of course! And thanks for having me!
ExcerptThe class is dead silent. Mr. White’s lips tighten. He swallows. There’s something dangerous about the new guy. The teacher leans over Addy Day’s desk and spins her packet so he can read the list of partnerships.

“Fine. We’ll break up the threesome. You’ll pair with . . . Salem Jefferson.”

At the sound of my name, I turn to look at my new partner. The guy near the door is tall. He has the kind of incredible good looks that invite stares, but that’s not the only reason he’s getting them now. The cursive lettering of a tattoo rises from the opening of the guy’s worn flannel shirt. Two gold chains hang from his brown neck. A guy accessorized in gang paraphernalia, not caked with it. His only completely visible marking is an upside down V inked onto his right cheekbone, black and distinct. The tattoo calls my attention for some reason, even though I’m sure I’ve never seen a symbol like that before.

An upside down V . . . it seems so familiar.

His expressionless, dark eyes dart to meet my gaze from under a stiff, backward-facing ball cap. My classmates watch him stare at me.

“Salem Jefferson,” he says slowly, putting a slight emphasis on my last name. He waits for my response.

I realize he knows exactly who Salem Jefferson is. Exactly who I am. I’m Carrie’s sister. Terrified, I whirl back around to face forward. Gang members targeted Carrie, made her frightened. Was he one of them? The skin between my shoulder blades tightens.

Why were gang guys after Carrie?

The Dating Experiment & a Guest Post from Elodia Strain

You guys, I'm so excited about Elodia Strain's new novel! I absolutely loved her previous books & this one promises to be just as fun to dive into. And seriously, look at that gorgeous cover!!! It just makes me want to click for more right now!

After losing her job, her house, and her long-term boyfriend, Gabby’s roommate signs her up to be in a dating experiment. Little does she know, however, that her ex is in the experiment too! In an attempt to escape the chaos of her life, Gabby visits home and accidentally reunites with her childhood friend (and secret crush), Ian O’Connell. As she participates in the study and its hilariously awkward dates, Gabby finds her heart torn between the man she’s comfortable with and the man who’s had her heart from the beginning.
 Find it on Amazon here.

  A fun note from Elodia:
In my new book, Gabby plays Two Truths and One Lie on one of her experiment dates. So, I thought in honor of St. Patrick's Day, I myself would play Two Truths and One Lie, the Luck Version:

1. My first day of Kindergarten, the teachers told us they were going to check if we were right handed or left handed or both, which they said was called being ambidextrous. They gave us mini chalkboards and asked us to write a letter on the chalkboard with each of our hands. I remember trying SO HARD to write perfectly with both hands, so I could be ambidextrous. But I wasn't so lucky--I was clearly right handed no matter how hard I tried.

2. I was in Girl Scouts from age 5-12 and remember going horseback riding for the first time ever with my troop when I was about ten. I have loved riding ever since! I do it as much as I can with my niece (who is a total natural) when I'm at my in-laws house in Texas. Lucky for me, they have two of the most beautiful horses I've ever seen.

3. I played the flute in high school and wanted to join the marching band. But I was so stressed out by the idea of ruining my high school's reputation by my inevitable trip/tumble/wrong turn on the field that I used my experience playing piano to join the percussion pit. I ended up learning how to play the marimba, xylophone, bells, etc. Definitely a lucky decision!

The Lie: I'm a terrible horseback rider and have been since I was a kid. Horses can clearly sense I'm terrified of falling off. But my niece IS a total natural. Must be that Irish luck from my father-in-law!

Stu Stories: The Adventures Dirt Clod and His Sidekick, Bird Bones

If you've been following my Facebook page, then you'll know my family has been cycling through the flu and bronchitis since Christmas. Seriously, there was no break. Each week, another member of the family as down for the count. It was a very stressful time for Mama (especially when it was her turn to be sick!).

At the Ferguson home, if you're sick, you stay in your room. No interactions with the other natives in hopes that the illness will end. We load the kids up with Netflix and Kindle books. My lucky duck kids had the opportunity to read Stu Stories: The Adventures of Dirt Clod and His Sidekick, Bird Bones by Patrick Hueller. There were gobs of laughing/hacking coughs coming from my 12 year old son's room - a few times, I listened outside his door to make sure he was going to survive the latest laughing/coughing fit.

Now, my 10 year old daughter is on a huge Diary of a Wimpy Kid kick right now. She keeps requesting the books at the school library and as soon as she has one in her hands, she disappears for days until it's thoroughly devoured. Well, she did the same thing with Stu Stories. She loved the adventure and super funny situations the characters got into.

So, if you're looking for a great read for your munchkins, check out Stu's Stories. Your kids will thank you!  =)  Check it out on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.  For more about the author, visit his website.

Happy reading!

Book Birthday: On the Corner of Heartache & Love by Lisa Swinton PLUS a Giveaway!

On the Corner of Heartache & Love is here!

My review: I absolutely LOVED this book! I had the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader's Copy and it was fabulous. I loved the weddings and funerals Maren attends for her job. The conversations between her co-workers, BFF, and Mr. Guy On The Corner go between being hilarious and totally down-to-earth. If you love chick lit, On the Corner of Heartache and Love needs to be on your Must-Read list!

What's it about? Maren's stuck at the intersection of heartache and love, but happily ever after might be just around the corner. After three years, Maren Summers is elated to finally have her dream wedding to her dream man, Kevin Bryant. In her sights is the promotion to Weddings she’s worked so hard for at the newspaper. Happily ever after is within her grasp… Until Kevin jilts her at the altar, elopes with another woman, and becomes her boss. Devastated by the twisted turn of events Maren moves in with her best friend and notices the not-so-homeless guy on the corner, Zane Whitfield. As his heart-wrenching tale unfolds—his vow to wait a year on the corner for his lost love—Maren sees his compassionate human-interest story as her ticket away from Kevin, weddings, and her heartache. But as the New Year approaches, is Maren headed for heartache again if Zane's lost love returns or has time changed more than one heart?
