the wounded hero

When I was in grad school, we had to choose two types of specialties for our written exams. One was a time period specialty. One was a specialty of type that could be traced through the whole of German literature. I did German Expressionism/Dada for my time period specialty, and I did the Bildungsroman as the type. But I had a friend who did the wounded hero (or limping hero) as his type (Or maybe he ended up doing body mutilation--I think he was debating the two). I have thought a lot abou
