Wonton Delicious

Recently, I made chicken wonton soup for the first time. (Here’s the recipe I used, if you’re interested.) Despite not having a goddamn clue when it came to folding them, they ended up just fine, and DELICIOUS, and there was no breakage. Sometimes you have to take the victories where you find them.

A Certain Promise

The plums have already bloomed, first off the mark like every year. Right behind them, the cherries are suddenly fleeced with pink. They hyacinths have made a good showing, and I’m hoping they naturalize. The poppies are green, prickly, and huge; even the kiwi is getting into the act, though the grapevines are still tightly […]

Bicycle, Back Spasm

I did ALL THE CHORES yesterday, and got a back spasm or two for my pains while taking apart a bicycle. …perhaps I should explain. Last summer (I think? Or maybe the summer before?) I spotted a bigger bicycle than the one the Little Prince currently had at a garage sale. He liked it, I […]

Mod Podge Doge

What with the release day craziness, I felt the need for a little Zen. I’d always wanted to decorate my craft supplies box, too. So I turned to something I’ve liked for a long time: decoupage! It’s collages and glue, what’s not to love? I had a pot of Mod Podge and the will to […]

Restless Rain and Nineveh

There was a restless rain on the roof this morning, sweeping and tapping. Or maybe I was restless. The day after a release is not quite as fraught, but it’s still…well, I woke up several times last night. It’s a funny thing. Even though the She Wolf was out as a serial, it didn’t cause […]

RELEASE DAY: She Wolf and Cub

It’s time! It’s finally time! Ever since they gave her a new cyborg body and a steady stream of murderous work, she’s known the rules. Keep your head down, do your job, don’t get involved. Then they sent her to assassinate a child. Instead, she took him out of the City and into the Waste. […]

Eventually Not Worth It

Rolling out of bed this morning was a chore, even with a Very Helpful Australian Shepherd getting her nose under the covers and doing her best to root me out like a pig roots truffles. I’m glad she feels some affection for me, but this helpfulness is sometimes…not helpful. Especially when I don’t want to […]

Contortionist Headache

After being utterly convinced all day yesterday that it was Friday, I am now in the middle of a Friday that feels like a Monday. Well, more like I’m in the first third of a Friday that feels like a Monday. My weekend is going to be full of research reading, and I’m fighting the […]

Things I Think About

In lieu of an actual post today, here are some things rolling around inside my head, in no particular order. * The Killer as Aesthete. I’ve been kicking around this idea of murderers portrayed with heightened sensory acuity as aesthetes for a while. From Anne Rice’s vampires and their florid sensory overloads to Hannibal Lecter […]

Frantic Activity

At about 3am the wandering what-ifs made their monthly appearance, so I turned on the bedside lamp and wrote a bit, read a bit, then wrote a bit more. Honestly, if I’m going to be producing at this pace, it makes sense for me to use every available moment to scribble. Afterwar tore a hole […]
